To me, given automation and everything, and some mega corps approaching full possible saturation of market share? UBI or something similar is kind of a must to stop things from really getting too crazy run away train bad. In a true deterministic meritocracy maybe the way things run works but that is an inane idealization and could never exist in the real world.

I agree. AGI / AI in general (self driving trucks?) are too disruptive to the way the world has worked to not demand serious change. UBI or some equivalent will be required.

I would suggest that you look into the political history of china. It can be considered both communist and capitalist at the same time because of the many desires of the leaders. It is shown in leaked Chinese documents that they do desire to become more communist, but they also still look somewhat capitalist because of their global economic presence. One could also argue that China does have something more similar to socialism/communism because of the amount of control the government has over corporations and the means of production. Of course the Chinese government is extremely corrupt but it is still a democracy in name as was intended to be one. China is a great example of why full socialism/communism is both difficult to achieve and very unstable because the leaders will always rise into a higher class and do what benefits themselves. That lead to an oppressive, authoritarian government and what could have been a good situation for the worker turns into the complete opposite. IMO if we want to have a different system we should go with something similar to the Nordic countries as they are consistently the happiest.

I want to chime in a Swede. Although you are correct that US has a bigger gap than us, you can very much have a bad life if your not rich, or you've worked at the same job for 20+ year and now you have some cash. I've been in the job market for 3 years, 2 different jobs and it's really really difficult to find a job that let's you move out. My current job is not even close to make me enough money to move out so I'll probably wait until im 30. It's bad, especially with the big inflation problem we have. I could go to university and be set but I've searched twice and not gotten in yet with deccent grades so unless you have straight As it's really difficult too. We do have free healthcare which is great and you can still get money from the state if you don't have a job (if you've been paying a thing for a year which I havent yet), It's rare to be homeless in Sweden but it's common for everyone under 30 to barely getting by.

IIRC they're more involved in behind the scenes business decisions, but any major changes to the company/brand video-wise still has to go through matpat & his wife. they also got more involved production thru that company & some funding from them but he's not so overworked/managing stuff . if i remember right, at least. This is done by most people. They also confuse a planned economy with socialism (even though there can be socialism together with a market, Gerald Cohen wrote about this in Why Not Socialism? for example) . Most countries have historically tried to stomp down any radical left so it is not that surprising that the same arguments are being recycled throughout the years.
@AtriocClips
@AtriocClips 6 месяцев назад
Thank you !! I think you mistate my aim as "justifying capitalism". That would be so boring (and presumptuous of me) - this content and my viewers are not changing any global economic systems. My end goal is to get otherwise bright young people to waste less time on theory and shaking their fist at what is essentially the concept of property rights to explain all their problems. I use China because it's the perfect example of what happens after these nominally communist countries have their revolution. Economic pain into an eventual capitulation into capitalism with extra steps. Give me the wealth inequality I already have but extra with the side effect of an incredibly involved and oppressive state? Sign me up! The Nordic countries are ALSO capitalist. Daniel Ek is a billionaire from Spotify! They are also broadly happy right now because he pays some high ass taxes! America post New Deal was as capitalist as it gets but But their combination of stronger labor union participation, antitrust enforcement, high taxes on the wealthy helped it hit the sweet spot of both worlds. That's real! Thats attainable! We could do it in our lifetimes and it would be broadly popular, requiring no violent revolution. Let's skip the step where we (#1 have a violent, tragic revolution and realize we didn't get the utopia we thought because human beings are imperfect and find ways to consolidate power) or (#2, MUCH more likely, waste our youth talking about it while smoking weed and clocking in at Starbucks and nothing changes at all!) And just cut right to supporting real, effective, proven legislation that already existed in this country not long ago!. Something to think about. Imagine I'm drinking a big coffee while Mooing during it if it helps.

@@AtriocClips Thank you for the response! I think I was a bit too harsh in my original comment (I’ve been a bit pessimistic lately); the holidays have exposed me to much more borderline racist “China bad, communism is the devil” discourse and I projected that on to you. Your reply reminded me of your other content and I generally agree with your position that much of the most important stuff is attainable and not necessarily exclusive to socialism (anti trust, unions, etc.). While the subject is nuanced, ultimately what gets done to improve the human condition is most important. Personally, while I believe that the positive aspects of all economies can be attributed to the “socialist” parts (e.g. higher taxes on the rich (socialism) while still having rich people (capitalism)), I do commend your support for the tangible action taking place in the world. It is way more than can be said than for most creators, especially since you are a marketing guy and not political science. I apologize if I originally came off as rude-I think it would be most productive to support the action now and argue about theory later.

It isn't capitalist. It's a socialist market economy. If it was capitalist, government wouldn't crush very profitable industries for the sake of social ends.
@DrRocket8775
@DrRocket8775 6 месяцев назад
@@testacalsHere are two instances where non-state capitalist economies crushed profitable companies for ideological reasons. First, many MLMs have been corporate profitable but go out of business due to legal action because of IC deception, etc. Here, norms about how business out to be done sometimes crush profitable businesses. But you might think this isn’t a good case because you’d like a case of a profitable business being crushed for ideological reasons where the business isn’t a net negative on society. My example is beer companies pre-Carter presidency. Due to lobbying from the largest beer companies, licensing for producing beer was effectively priced out for startups for largely unjustified reasons (non-evidence backed health and safety concerns) from the depression until Carter. Here, as we now know, there would have been many profitable businesses that would have had a net positive on society (at least in capitalist terms), but these were all blocked because of cartelization and madeup health reasons. So crushing profitable companies for ideological reasons is not precluded by capitalism as a type of economic system.
@DrRocket8775
@DrRocket8775 6 месяцев назад
Also, quite often China’s justifications for limiting profitable businesses often has to do with retaining state power. If businesses get too big and international, then they’d be able to push out the currently prevailing govt ideologies, which doesn’t really entail that the government isn’t capitalist so much as show that there is a power struggle. And lastly, can you say why you think moderate centralization automatically make an economic system socialist? If that’s the case then the US is market socialist due to their control on the whole of agriculture production.
@testacals
@testacals 6 месяцев назад
@@DrRocket8775 China's justification for limiting profitability is rarely has to do with retaining power. The gaming industry and the tuition industry both got hit by cpc and the reasoning was always for a social end. Afaik tuition industry isn't even that big compared to other industries. It's not centralization that make them socialist. It's what they do with centralization that make them socialist. Has USA ever attacked a profitable industry for a social end ?
