There are three new scientific studies related to the "secret muscle powder from Germany", all published after the first campaign ended (three years ago).
First one: How does Shape Up work on untrained women between 18 and 50?
pubmed.ncbi.nl...
77 women, 12 weeks, 3 workouts a day. 15 grams of Shape Up every day. No diet change.
The results were spectacular. The "Shape Up" girls gained twice the amount of Fat Free Mass (=muscle) than the placebo girls. The also gained a lot more strength. Actually the placebo girls started out stronger than the Shape Up girls, but after 12 weeks of training FOR ALL, the Shape Up girls ended up stronger. They overturned the placebo group.
Second one: How does it work on young athletes?
25 male sports students, 12 weeks, 3 workouts a week, 15 grams of Shape Up every day. No diet change.
pubmed.ncbi.nl...
The results were EVEN MORE spectacular. The Shape Up boys gained 2,6 kg of muscle on average, while the Placebo boys only gained 700 grams... so the "Shapies" gained 3,7 times more muscle!
They also ended up a lot stronger. Average strength increase (over five typical exercises) was 107,7 kg for the Shapies, and only 63,9 kg for the placebo group.
Third one: IS 15 grams a day the right dosage?
105 men, aged 30-60. Three groups, 10/15/20 grams of Shape Up every day for 12 weeks.
www.cambridge....
Results were cool, it shows that more Shape Up a day does work a bit better, but not by much. The stuff is expensive, so 15 grams seems to be enough.

I had a 220lbs one of these back in 1987 and it was good fun, main problem I found was the large bolt drop at anything over 30 metres but I used it around a field shoot back in 1988 and I managed to hit a large Boer cut-out at 113 metres. The alloy bolts I had bent and dented very easily and I ended up reducing the point weight to about 85 and putting shark's fins on to try and reduce the drag. You will find the bow is made of an aluminum alloy with brass which was always a pain in the butt to keep clean. I used a wax rail lube back then, but I would say to use hi-friction crossbow serving which is available from Bow Sports in the UK. There are many things going for this bow but because of its design limitations to do with the power stroke it went to the wall. I put a meglight on mine with a 3-9 x 40 scope. Keep an eye on the trigger unit mine had plastic outer spring retainers with a central steel pin. The plastic is not up to the loads an can crack which can be very dangerous, I made some more for myself but please check that. I sold mine back in 1993 to get a mig welder and now I have a Horton Legacy 225. Keep up the good work I enjoy your Vids best wishes Owen.

Most people don't know that the Barnett Commando was used in large numbers, by the Serbian army, against Kosovo Liberation Army forces. During the Kosovo war in the 1990s. It was shipped in by the truck loads by the British, to get around the Arms embargo. It was used for Counter sniper operations & ambushes. Pretty amazing.

My cousin bought two commandos, one for himself and one for me! We had such a great time shooting them! My cousin and myself were in our middle 30's, when we owned the commandos. I Hadn't thought about owning them for all these years until I just happened upon the video. They were very accurate and powerful, for the time. We used them on my father's property, just for shooting at the STANLEY HIPS TYPE TARGETS AND ANOTHER KIND, MADE FROM BURLAP, WHICH WAS VERY EASY TO PULL OUT THE BOLTS. IT TOOK SOME DOING TO REMOVE THEM FROM THE STANLEY HIPS TYPE.

I just love the brass in this, Joerg can you please build something that is as functional and as automatic and as powerful as the adder but with traditional looking materials like wood, brass, leather, gun blued steal, and chrome whatever. Also allow it to take 15” bolts in the magazine as well as a telescopic sight. Your work is amazing and you are a true innovator but I’ve never seen one thing that I just fall in love with. I like things that look good as well as perform well.

the commando was a great little crossbow. i got the 175 lb. version here in the usa when i was around 15 years old (over 30 years ago) it was a lot of fun and pretty accurate, but the string life was greatly affected by the cocking mechanism so i usually cocked it using a piece of rope to make a foot stirrup . thanks for the trip down memory lane !

I had one of these, 220lb prod was available in the UK, mine was 175. It ate strings, and some of the prods would delaminate, which could be dangerous. I cocked mine differently, forend in left hand, nose on left thigh, and pull towards you. Loved it, but strings breaking and bolts burying themselves in the ground made the fun short-lived.

@silverbladeTE
@silverbladeTE 4 года назад
Joerg, have you ever considered using a REVERSE crossbow design? :) Wouldn't that solve a lot of issues? #1) Since the bow is in the middle, balance is better #2) The string doesn't contact the stock at all and operates directly in line with the string and projectile, thus, less wear on string and less power lost to friction #3) Potentially longer power stroke #4) Bow is BEHIND the magazine, which may make design easier I do realise there are very few bow limbs made for a reverse crossbow so that may be a problem, but worth thinking about? :) And thanks for another great video! :) Almost bought a Commando back in the day but they were very expensive, alas. And yeah, from examining one in a shop they were very heavy! but then again that sturdy build probably is why they lasted so long (but all Barnett crossbows back then had very severe wear on the strings!)

Yes, I have used the 175lbs version of this cross bow . Excellent for big game up to 400kg. The weak point in the 175lbs bow were the moorings for the bow string. I moulded brass end pieces out of brass and over came this major problem. My bow strings would come off those cheap plastic bow string holders and unravel. It was difficult to find heavy bolts in those days and the only solution was to cast brass pieces to hold the string. The grooves had to be deepened to hold captive the bow string. I very soon switched over to a 90lbs compound long bow and never regretted it. I still have my Golden Eagle compound bow, but alas got rid of the problematic cross bow. You’re lucky you have a weak version of this bow , for otherwise those ridiculous plastic pieces on the bow would have snapped off. The wurfärme endungen were squared off and offered no solid support to the hollow shoulders ! No wonder those plastic bits were sent to the happy hunting grounds within a few shots. A very fine cross bow , constructed badly by the british ; just like their cars.

Got one in my collection too, you should check out the Barnett Thunderbolt, there are two versions (camo with skeletal stock, or black with real wood furniture) a really cool crossbow as it's a bullpup compound bow! I have both versions and another interesting one is the Barnett Trident crossbow pistol with a rotating barrel (well rotating rails).

Oh no, there is going to be a powdered gelatin phase where body builders are going to eat a packet of plain gelatin powder for breakfast everyday.

I say Barnett needs to remake these crossbows as not everyone wants a slow firing crossbow

I had one of these in the early 90's. It had a 220lb fibreglass bow and was quite difficult to cock. Later I got a 120lb laminated bow which made it much easier to use.
