Thank you so very much for your videos. I started GAPS, today is day 4. I have noticed wonderful things since the end of day one! Not kidding. I’m not moody, I have energy I’ve not seen in years. It is like a fog has lifted. I’m amazed and so very grateful, enjoying every day. I truly believe that the Lord led me to it. I hadn’t been feeling well for a long time, years really. It’s just figuring out what to eat that takes a little time. What you are doing is a huge help. Thx a million!!!! Val

I just found your RU-vid channel yesterday! Very thankful for your videos. Similar to you, I've also been making organic, homemade skin care products since I was in high school. I currently am a student of the Herbal Academy, now focusing more on teas, tinctures, herbal vinegar, etc. I’m new to the GAPS diet, and very interested in its healing benefits. I have a 6 month old son and a fiance who has struggled with seizures for about 4-5 years (although he hasn't had one in almost a year now). Him & I have always been focused on eating organic foods, but we were always more interested in going vegan and we did on and off for a while. That's what we always believed to be the healthiest diet possible, and he still does - although not eating vegan at the moment. He'll eat meat when I cook it, but gives me a hard time about it and doesn't want our son to eat meat. My mother bought me "The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby & Child Care" when I was pregnant with my son, although I never did more than skim through it. However, a few weeks ago I suddenly became interested in making bone broth which led me to give the book another try. Now I'm obsessed and it just makes so much sense to me, but my fiance thinks I'm crazy and isn't on board. The worst part is, I really think he would benefit the MOST from the GAPS diet. I feel like a horrible mother for depriving myself of meat, eggs, dairy, etc. because I thought it to be detrimental to mine & my baby's health. I'm trying to make up for it now, but we are struggling with finances at the moment so it's been difficult. Sorry for the overload of info! Anyway, do you have any suggestion on getting my fiance on board with GAPS? Also, I'm breastfeeding so I know I shouldn't do the GAPS diet right now, but do you have any tips for nutrition while breastfeeding? I plan on doing the GAPS diet when I am done breastfeeding, but I also hope to breastfeed as long as possible; so it could be a very long time before I'm able to. Also, if you have any tips to eating GAPS on a budget, that would be great. And I would love to see more recipe videos specific to GAPS, I love your veggie gummies recipe. Keep up the good work!

Wow, it's so great to meet you! No worries, I love nice long comments 😊 Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride (Author of the GAPS diet book) has also written a book about vegetarianism. If your fiancé would be open to reading it, I think it would really help! You're right, it's best to not start GAPS while nursing. I would focus on eating as much healthy fats right now as you can, and just eating a good, rounded diet of all food groups, making sure they're properly prepared and of high quality, if possible. I definitely know about doing GAPS/Nourishing Traditions type eating on a budget, too! I find that buying whole ingredients really saves. Whole chickens are cheaper than buying already cut up pieces of chicken, and ground beef is usually cheaper than other cuts, for example. Buy vegetables whole and cut them up yourself, and buy in bulk as much as you can. Basically, find out what gives you the most bang for your buck nutritionally, and stick with that. For example, right now we eat pretty much just whole chickens and ground beef, along with the organic produce that is least expensive. Costco has great prices on big bags of carrots and frozen organic vegetables, so we eat a lot of those. We grow as much as we can in our garden, too. Right now we're eating a lot of squash that is in season. Keeping it simple and whole seems to be the key 😊 I think this would make a great video topic, so I'll try to do that soon! I do have more tips I can share for the keeping it affordable part. Thanks so much for the encouraging words! I have lots more GAPS videos planned 😊 Thanks again for writing! Keep in touch! 😊

I have tried different diets for healing. I tend to avoid gluten, dairy, and corn, which I was diligent about for several years but now I’m not super disciplined. I have done an elimination diet but faltered halfway into the re-introductions. Also I did AIP for a few months. If there was a major difference I could notice I would probably be more motivated. GAPS is one I have the least knowledge of but I’m curious. I’ve also been learning about under methylation, overmethylation, and copper toxicity.
@BumblebeeApothecary
@BumblebeeApothecary 4 года назад
It's all so fascinating, isn't it? I tried many things before GAPS, and as soon as I started it I knew it was different. I was exactly what I needed. Instead of avoiding foods, it heals deeply, so that food intolerances are eliminated. It also restores the body's detox system. It was life changing for me.

I just recently had my Genome tested. I have quite a few variants to Genes, including my MTHFR Gene. But aside from that particular Gene, I guess I have a hard time assimilating B12 and Choline. And converting Homocysteine into Methionine. It’s like a domino effect. I am hoping that eating the GAPS diet will eventually heal all of that. I am also going to try Marissa’s way of eating raw liver diced up small and swallowed whole. I have never had Liver before, but I’m hoping that it will be a game changer for me. I have suffered from anxiety and depression for years! I believe I have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome also, I can’t eat ANYTHING without having a reaction. After getting Covid in April 2021 all my symptoms exploded and I have been absolutely miserable. I started the GAPS diet almost a year ago but then stopped after a few months because the supplements that were recommended like a probiotic and fermented Cod Liver oil was causing Histamine reactions, along with anything fermented or cultured! It SUX! I have learned how to make all of these fermented and cultured foods only to not be able to eat them. How am I supposed to introduce good gut bacteria if I can’t have these foods because they give me such horrible reactions?! So stressed and anxiety ridden, I can’t take it anymore. 😒😔😭
@leannshort2211
@leannshort2211 Год назад
Hi Marissa! Thanks so much for your videos. I’m a little anxiety ridden and stressed at the moment. I started the GAPS diet almost a year ago but only REALLY stuck to it for a few months. Although I still drink my chicken broth everyday but I know that’s not the same. The reason I stopped and didn’t think it was working for me is because I couldn’t take the probiotic, the fermented Cod Liver, anything fermented or cultured that I made. It was giving me horrible histamine/MCAS reactions. I got Covid in April 2021 and my symptoms exploded! Since I was a child I have always had histamine reactions. The older I’ve gotten, it has gradually worsened. I still can’t smell or taste. I’ve been seeing a Naturopath who diagnosed me with Chronic Lyme disease and has been pushing me to do some $5,000 Lyme-N nebulizing treatment! I have put it off because I know that Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride talks about healing this naturally through diet, am I correct? I’ve also had my Genome tested and have some wonky Gene Variants and mutations that don’t allow me to methylate correctly. Not just the MTHFR Gene either. I’m hoping through the GAPS diet those things can be healed? Do you know if Dr. Natasha talks at all about Gene mutations? And one last thing. What am I to do about re-inoculating my gut with good bacteria if I have a histamine reaction to just about everything? I’m so discouraged because I have even tried a low histamine diet but nothing seems to help. I just bought some grass fed/grass finished Beef Liver from a local farm and I am going to start taking that tomorrow. I watched your video on how to take it raw, so thank you! I appreciate any info you can give. Thanks so much ❤❤

I've tried the GAPS diet for more than 6 months and it did absolutely nothing but make me more miserable than I already was. I'll admit my blood tests are almost perfect thanks to it. But, it has done nothing whatsoever to ease my stomach pain. I've taken antimicrobials and they did nothing also. I'm still on it but I'm giving it two weeks more then I'm giving up. If I''m gonna die from this stomach pain one day then I might as well eat what I want. I don't want to make others hopeless. Just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean it won't for you.

I have a 17 yr old boy with Aspergers syndrome and ADHD, he has the worst diet imaginable and is underweight. He is the pickiest of eaters, only eating really beige coloured foods: tortelloni, macaroni cheese (English, not American), bread, sausages & yorkshire puddings and sausage rolls. He refuses all vegetables and pretty much all fruit. He is trying to learn to eat a bit more meat, we're trying to get him in to bacon at the moment, but not really succeeding. Your GAPS diet sounds interesting, but also sounds like it is everything that he won't eat. I eat a carnivore diet at the moment to cure my health problems and this has had a positive impact on him, he is consciously trying to improve himself, but is fighting his body. Would the GAPS diet work for such a picky eater at all?

Awesome video, well said, can you please talk about the difference between the beginning stage and then moving into full gaps? Not really really introductions but what is the beginning stage look like what are you eating only? Would you say that full gap’s is pretty much AIP or paleo, I have been eating Paleo for four years, started AIP, fodmap, candida, and what I’ve learned is it pretty much healed nothing. What I mean by that is the minute I say eat sugar is the minute all of my symptoms come right back so it is a Band-Aid a lifelong Band-Aid! I hate it and I love it all at the same time and it even hurts me to say I love it! Lol 😂
@BumblebeeApothecary
@BumblebeeApothecary 5 лет назад
Thank you so much! 😊💕 Yes I will! I have lots more GAPS videos coming, and I will cover the introduction stages in depth. No, full GAPS is still pretty different from AIP or paleo. The main reason is that GAPS is a temporary diet that really targets healing of the gut, where paleo and other diets are meant to be eaten long term as permanent diets. That makes sense that issues would come right back with those ways of eating. With GAPS, especially when you do the introduction stages properly, real, permanent healing can take place 😊 I hope that makes sense!

I have bipolar disorder and I needed the accompaniment of a perinatal psychiatrist to start a pregnancy; thank God 8 months ago I had a healthy baby girl and I am breastfeeding her. I plan to breastfeed her for at least another two years before we start the next pregnancy, but I really want to do the GAPS diet, is it compatible with breastfeeding? I would not want to have to wait another 4 or 5 years before starting it as I also want to breastfeed our second child for about 3 years... Do you think I could start the GAPS diet safely even while breastfeeding?
@BumblebeeApothecary
@BumblebeeApothecary Год назад
Great question! Dr. Natasha recommends full GAPS (not intro) while nursing, because intro can trigger a lot of detox and we don't want to expose baby to that. But full GAPS is a great way to nourish yourself and baby. Hope this helps!

Hey Marisa! I was curious about your opinion on using mouthwash. Since I'm into this whole gut health thing which is to do with balancing out your gut flora, I'd imagine it would extend to the flora in your mouth. So, since mouthwash claims to be antibacterial, that'd be like an antibiotic for the mouth. So I'd imagine that balancing your microbiome would extend to having balanced bacteria in your mouth too. What are your thoughts on that and if the gaps diet helps take care of your breath? Allan
@allanh46
@allanh46 2 года назад
So, besides other ways of cleaning your mouth like brushing, flossing and using a tongue scraper, I'd imagine mouthwash would be unnecessary or if anything causing imbalance in your mouth's flora.

Great questions! Yes, having healthy gut flora influences the rest of the body, which eliminates bad breath. Kefir is wonderful to use to populate the mouth with friendly flora and get rid of mouth issues :) We don't use mouthwash

Thanks a lot Marisa. I appreciate it. Sure. Yes, I'd imagine it certainly does. I gave kefir a go recently and it was a nice drink! Nice. So, we're not tryna take away any bacteria, but to nourish with like a probiotic aren't we. Cool. Awesome. Yea good to know. Lovin the gaps diet the last few months.

Great question. As far as the blood type diet, Dr. Natasha recommends taking into consideration your family's heritage and listening to your body when thinking about what foods to focus on and what to eat less of within GAPS. Hope that helps!

How about fiber? Does the gaps diet have a good amount of fiber?
@BumblebeeApothecary
@BumblebeeApothecary 2 года назад
So, GAPS is meant to heal leaky gut. Fiber is irritating on a leaky gut. The early intro stages are low fiber. Gradually, as you progress through the intro stages, Dr. Natasha has more fiber added, a little at a time, as healing happens. Hope this helps!

Would you recommend starting with the gaps diet while breastfeeding a baby under 6 month.
@BumblebeeApothecary
@BumblebeeApothecary 2 года назад
Great question! Dr. Natasha recommends the full GAPS diet (but not intro) while pregnant and nursing. Intro can trigger a lot of detox which isn't good for baby, but a lot of progress can be made gently on full GAPS. Hope this helps!

@@BumblebeeApothecary thank you so much for the answer. I started yesterday on full gaps. Specially for my psoriasis, acne and my baby’s eczema. I thought I would skip dairy because of the eczema, but if I don’t eat dairy I am a bit lost of the food options. I am not such a meat fan, but am trying, plus focusing on more probiotic foods. Would you skips the dairy because of the eczema or just use organic, mostly raw milk products? It’s my third child, and the eczema is really bad specially on the face. Greetings from Germany. Love your videos.

She literally claims plants are indigestable lol. And carbs can be turned into lipids. She also says no culture has ever been vegetarian but out of desperation. She refers to a vague "traditional culture" that doesn't include anything besides judeo Christian cultures. She says plants are only cleansing implying they just pass through you, like. You'd poop out a brocoli after it scrubs you while your digestive fluids do nothing to it. She needs to take a rudimentary biology class. Her book is mostly written by ai and it's hilarious. She says that we have micro flora that "can't be eliminated via antibiotics PASTEURIZATION OR BOILING." LOL MEANING AHE LITERALLY THINKS PASTEURISATION AND BOILING ARE THERAPEUTIC FOR HUMANS. or at least her ai author does. Her book actually insists she is the author on the publishing page citing a legal loop hole.
