Hey Dub! SRV switched guitars because he broke a string, which is kind of amazing in a way itself since he used EXTREMELY heavy strings. In fact, the strings were so heavy he'd build up very heavy callouses on his fingertips that he'd Superglue back on if any were to slough off. 😱 - The cost of stardom, I guess!
I love his playing AND his voice! Oh, I love it in this song when he leans in close to the mike and goes "Hah-ay-yah-ayy ayyy-oo-oooh" real low and sexy. My my my... Stevie Ray, what you do to me! But how he makes love to that guitar... I'm so jealous. Please break a string and swap me in.

Do I mind it when Stevie sings? I can't believe this question. YES‼️ I love❣️his voice. He matches his voice to any song's emotion and feeling. He has such a great blues voice and it can also express such tenderness your heart will melt. No one can match his guitar virtuosity so I think when people compare his vocals to his playing his vocals might come up short. Any vocals fall short of his playing but that's like comparing apples and oranges. That said, this is a fun song and, as always, Reese killing it on the keys is such a treat. I love love love that blues voice. Perfect for his style. Earth shaking soul stirring . Smooth and rough at the same time like so many other pleasures in life. Never heard anything better than SRV. I slip into a trance listening to him play whatever lucky guitar he's holding. A guaranteed eargasm every time. You ARE a Voodoo Child with the strings. Hello brother, I just subscribed and plan to go back and check out your other content. SRV is why I'm here, I am a big SRV fan and as a matter of fact I saw him in concert in 89 and 90. In 90 I was 10 rows back from the stage, it was amazing as you could imagine, it also was 1 month later that he died in the helicopter crash and I was heart broken because we definitely lost a legend. Ive never seen anywhere on yt where ppl didn't like his voice. Im with everyone else i love his voice its unique and soulful. I guess you dnt watch other ytubers channels on srv. Everyboby says they love his voice. So this is a first to hear ppl dnt like it. I love Srv ❤
It's hard to believe that Stevie Ray's career only span 7 years and his album Texas Flood debuted in 1983 he was the 1st Musician to be inducted into The Austin Music Hall Of Fame in 1982, Blues Hall Of Fame in 2000, honored by Mark White in 1985 the Governor of Texas, he won 6 Grammys, 10 Austin Music Awards, 5 W.C. Handy Awards, Entertainer Of The Year, Instermental Of The Year and was inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2015, he was nominated for Awards 51 times and won 21 and to think he only had one #1 hit with Crossfire is sad.I have been a Stevie Ray Vaughan fan since the 80's and I've watched so many different people react to SRV and no one has listened to my favorite yet, May I Have A Talk With You and they don't know what their missing he's absolutely amazing in the video. Stevie and his brother Jimmy Vaughan did an album together just before Stevie Ray's death so Jimmy made a video to one of the songs Stevie sings called Tick-Tock in the beginning Jimmy is talking about a dream he had, the beautiful words and the videos of Jimmy and Stevie Ray playing when they were little made me cry. He broke a string. How did you miss that? He switched guitars in Life Without You because he didn't like the sound. He handed it off to his guitar tech Renee, so he could tune it properly. If you listen at the end of the performance, he states that he's waiting for him to get his guitar tuned up. Renee's only job was to keep his guitars tuned properly and be there waiting in the wings to swap out guitars whenever Stevie broke a string or didn't like the sound. He wasn't "trying to be sneaky". He was trying to deliver the best performance he could, and he did just that.
He also switched on Life Without You because he forgot to switch before the song, to his white guitar, given to him by Charlie, who the song was written for.
Hey Dub.. Did you realize that he played that solo flawlessly with only 5 strings? Also, I hope you've heard by now that he couldn't read or write music. This is all nature talent.
First, I love his voice! And the piano player Reese Wynans is still playing and one of the few players that are as proficient using all 5 fingers on a run!
I imagine all the practice he got with his guitar tech to make smooth switches. Like an Indy 500 pit crew. Broke one out on the left, new in on the right, wait for the plug-n-play, strap over the left shoulder, finish on the right, grab the guitar and get the f*ck off stage. Minimal interruption and the song stayed smooth. Like a championship team.
I like both. He broke a string is why he had to change. When he was recording with his brother he broke a string too. He played so hard his fingers would bleed.
… And for me favorite performance is Life Without You because he speaks his mind with good food for thought and as you saw, he dealt / handled with numerous issues and laughed when he broke his tooth without missing a beat. We love you SRV!✌🏼❤️
@@dubzer0649 I think JoAnn is right. The problem is there is a lot of ambiguity in what "best guitarist" really means. Some people say that and mean just skill, agility and versatility on guitar. Others seem to include impact on music, song writing acumen or charisma as a performer. Those really shouldn't be included. When you add those, then suddenly it's tough to say who the "best" is. In that context, maybe it is Hendrix or Clapton or Van Halen, etc.. But that's not really the question. In pure skill with a guitar, it has to be SRV. Hendrix is great, but not nearly as polished. In live performances he wanders off of beat and back in at times and his fingering can be sloppy at times. It's very likely the LSD contributed to these, but it is what it is.
His playing is so amazing that vocals get over looked, he is probably one of the top 10-20 underrated vocalist of all time, if you listen to ‘Tin pan alley’ with Johnny Copeland live you will understand why I say this…. The fact he sounds that amazing live for that era with the lack of technology is a big deal. To imagine if he hadn’t passed so young and went through the era of vocal coaches and all that other nonsense they use now a days, people would think he is an amazing vocalist, again though, he plays at the GOAT level which actually takes away from his vocals, plus his best performances are live, and at the time the equipment wasn’t nearly as good as today, cause if you listen to him in studio sets on cd it is flawless. Truly an underrated vocalist, but at the same time, if he plays a song like ‘Lenny’, which has not a single lyric in it, but still can make you feel every bit of what he is trying to tell you through the music, plus being dedicated to his wife, it makes you wonder how you can actually feel what someone is trying to express just through sound without words…. SRV was special because he didn’t need to even say a single lyric for you to understand what he was expressing through his guitar alone. To me he is the GOAT, it is an opinion of course, but I’d love to hear an argument for why he isn’t? Playing fast is always cool, playing hard is always cool, but to actually make the guitar do the talking for you and express what you want to get across without a single word is only something a blues type player could do, and to be even more direct, something only SRV could do!!!
Stevie Ray Vaughan was the only one who could play with a broken string and switch guitars in the middle of a solo, play behind his head and back, one handed even no hands by just moving the guitar up and down, his teeth and even used his elbow in Voodoo Child, he was the only one that could play 85 percent of a song behind his back yet he has never been #1 on a list of guitar greats, that doesn't make any sense to me since NO guitarist out there could and can't come close to Stevie Ray. The first time Eric Clapton saw Stevie Ray perform was at a festival and after Stevie Ray was done playing Eric Clapton said " you expect me to go on after that " when Stevie past away August 27, 1990 at the age of 35 we lost the beat. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN THE GOAT OF ALL GOATS.
I think I put more stock into all the Blues greats B.B.King, his godfather Albert King, Buddy Guy even Eric Clapton who said who all said Stevie Ray Vaughan had it all a great Blues voice and amazing guitarists. There's definitely a reason he is in The Blues Hall Of Fame ect. You don't win or get into a Hall Of Fame with out the guitar and voice, it's like when people ask a crazy question like how do you want to die, burn or drowning? Lol well I really don't want to die so neither. No disrespect to you. That just a really hard question.
Want to hear something sad that I have to live with the rest of my life? I lived in Austin when Stevie was in his prime, still alive and playing small clubs downtown....but I didn't get it...and I didn't like it. I was even invited to go to one of his performances and I said his music was boring. He had so much more talent than the musicians I was listening to, but I wasn't musically intelligent enough to recognize it. I could have seen him live...but I didn't. Watching this now...it hurts....lol.
@@dubzer0649 I was listening to Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Huey Lewis and even Paula Abdul and didn't understand blues at all. I'm a white suburban kid so the concept didn't even make sense to me. Why would I want to listen to someone who is sad and telling me about it? I guess you have to experience some hardship firsthand before you understand some things. :)
