Stevie was actually using Jimi's wah wah pedal in that performance. It was gifted to him, and it is now in the hands of Stevie Ray's brother, Jimmie Lee Vaughan. 👌

Thank you for doing these videos! It keeps the legacy of Stevie alive and helps introduce his music to new ears. He was one of the best blues guitarists and one of my biggest inspirations. His interpretations of Jimi's music was remarkable and respectful.

SRV IS THE G O A T! What makes this even better is Stevie has a fantastic voice too, Jimi couldn't sing a note if the truth be told.

There was always just something about the way Stevie played that gave each song a continual form and melodic line even though he flew off in every other direction as the spirit struck him. He returned to its core over and over. He was playing songs within the song, fully realized parts that made the whole so complete and soul satisfying. I hear other guitarists, great guitarists, playing scales, and licks, and patterns...yet nothing so completely fully rounded as what Stevie did. He didn't just play the song, he took it in and reproduced it as a whole new entity, uniquely his perfect creation. He birthed them babies.

After watching both Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan's versions, I find that Stevie Ray's is the better of the two, and SRV played Voodoo Child at another gig but this version is better, I think. I like SRV's faster pace, too. Jimi, no doubt, was unusual and an innovative artist and Stevie Ray was inspired by him. It's a shame both of these men are gone and I could only imagine how their music would have expanded. Stevie Ray is my favorite, to me, he is the GOAT, and there are indeed many great performers from the past and presently. But no other artist lights a fire within me other than the great opera singer, Luciano Pavarotti, as SRV does. I love SRV's raspy, bluesy, jazzy voice as well. It's been said that Stevie Ray used #13 gauge guitar strings while many others were using #9 or #10 gauge strings. SRV must have had blisters on top of blisters on his fingers including carpal tunnel! LOL! He was phenomenal!
@MikeMacabre
@MikeMacabre 11 месяцев назад
As an ex guitar player I can attest to liking thicker/larger gauge strings as well. Those blisters ain't no joke! I have the same feelings but with Jimi. I'm not sure if I mentioned it in this reaction but he's the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place. He awoke many new feelings and inspired me through his music.

@@MikeMacabre Mike, thanks for responding. Then you would definitely know about it. At the time of this performance, he had been clean from drugs and alcohol for almost four years. And then to think a year later that his life would be taken, and we can't forget about the others that died as well from that helicopter crash. It's so sad. I just thought he had such precision and endurance. And he and that guitar became one on the stage. One of my favorite mellow songs of his was Riviera Paradise. SRV pulled on my heart strings with that one and his keyboardist, Reese Wynans is awesome and so is the rest of the band. It's such a beautiful melody, and he put so much feeling into it. You might want to give a reaction to that song--just a suggestion. Unless you have already, that is. It is one of his most mellow songs but to me you can't really enjoy and appreciate Stevie Ray unless you watch his live performances, and I'm glad I was able to do so via these videos.

o.O Curious about your description of SRV as a technical player. While it's true that his technique is amazing, what put him head and shoulders above most musicians is his feel. He is all about the emotion and making the audience feel what he feels. His technical mastery is such that he doesn't have to have that devil on the shoulder most of us musicians have, judging our playing and thinking about what we're going to play next, so he can be free to be raw emotion and feel.

Thanks for bringing this today. 2nd time on your channel for SRV. Yes Stevie loved Jimi and always treated his covers of Jimi with the respect he deserves, but he is not a copy cat and will put his spin on everything. This was but one interpretation of Voodoo Chile as Stevie was incapable of playing any song the same way twice so there are a lot of different takes out there. This is a good one but my personal favorite of this song is Stevie's Toyko concert 1985. He is in a completely different mood and takes about 15 minutes weaving riffs and runs through the original melody and just has so much creative fun with it I highly recommend to watch it as I think you would really enjoy it💯🎸🎶‼️ But May I say that you are the only person I have ever heard that doesn't think Stevie Ray plays with a lot of feeling. Can't wrap my head around that at all. We are all entitled to our own opinions and that is yours and mine differs. But I think Stevie plays with such soulful abandonment, getting swept away and barring his soul to share with us and that is why he captures us and transports us away with him in musical bliss. I hope you keep exploring his body of work as it is so varied in skill sets and substance that it is a musical encyclopedia. ✌️👋🎸🎶

Thank you for your kind words and taking the time to articulate your thoughts. I will add the Tokyo performance to the queue. I've been criticised before about my "hot take" of SRV being more technical. It's something I need to take more stock of and explain why I feel that way. At this time I don't have an answer however I could give a quick cursory reason as to maybe why. I knew of SRV long before I ever reacted to him or heard anything of him. My dad would often listen to and would sing his guitar virtuoso praises. So maybe somewhere along the line I assigned technical guitar ability with lack of feeling. It's like an artist vs musician kind of thing. Jimi was self taught and that's something I admire tremendously. So again I think my bias comes into play as the instruments I've learned to play were also self taught. It's something that I don't take lightly and will be a more lengthy explanation in my next SRV reaction.

@@MikeMacabre thanks Mike for your response✌️I appreciate your candor and willingness to try to understand how you came to your conclusion. I think it's cool your dad played his music and the funny thing is his fans from that short 8 year run hadn't ever seen him perform unless they were at a concert. Not like today with such great access to viewing. These same fans were blown away when they actually got to see him make the music they had only listened to before. They became even bigger fans by observing his intensity, passion, and mastery in such an effortless looking way but one you could feel his absolute love for the music itself and very few musicians have ever hit people where they live like he is still doing. I think it is cool you taught yourself instruments and know what that takes and you respect that of course. Steve picked up a guitar at age 7 as his older brother was learning to play by bringing home records and Stevie found if he could make the sound he was hearing with his mouth he could find it on the guitar and find it he did! In bands at 14 and being paid to play by age 16. His influences were many like Buddy Guy, BB King, Albert King, Lonnie Mack and lots of others. You can hear their influences in Stevie's music but he weaves it together in new ways and all those blues men loved Stevie like a son and loved playing with him. There wasn't anything he liked better than to jam with his idols🎸🎶💙. A special treat to listen to is my personal favorite which is Riveria Paradise a creation of Stevie's after his own hard won sobriety and he dedicates it to anyone out there still suffering in any way. It is soothing balm for the soul and feels like a big warm musical hug❣️. sorry for ending your ear✌️☺️

The symptoms you're getting in your hand are not based there but they are generated from nerve inflammation as the nerve exits the spine in your upper back or lower neck. If you put pressure in that area along the spine you will most likely even feel the painful, inflamed point that is generating the hand problem. A good chiropractor can definitely fix that!!!

OK look....it's an artistic interpretation. I feel you seem to think that dissecting every nuance granularly is an interesting way to assess music. I disagree, but....your channel. It's not a contest. I saw Hendrix in concert in 1968. TWICE. He changed everything for rock..... and for me. So did SRV...& he adored Hendrix. I hope you can view SRV as HE is, NOT who he isn't. Best original song and pure vocals and playing..."Ain't Gonna Give Up on Love"...Capitol Theatre.

I appreciate the feedback but I just don't think we are going to see eye to eye. I do and say things the way I see it and what feels natural and comfortable for me. I don't pander to an audience. Who said it's a contest? I don't even know how one could come across that idea? The only thing I could possibly think of is because I take what I do seriously, and isn't based on a lark. I love music and if my personality/approach is too meticulous/off-putting I don't know what else to tell you. I'll be more than happy to react to your song but I'm going into it as I would any other song I do. I'm not going to change who I am or how I interpret songs/performances.
@khart1070
@khart1070 11 месяцев назад
@MikeMacabre Wow. "...not going to change who I am"... is an interesting response to the topic here. The topic-your reaction to a musical artist's performance-swerved into defensiveness regarding my response to yours. Allow me to (somewhat) agree with you on a particular remark....I don't "...pander..." (either) to reactors, applauding their every thought with a 'Participation Trophy' for having a channel. "Comments" invite MINE..that may challenge your approach to a performance, that's all. Enjoy your reactor experience, knowing some people will disagree. Based on your remarks regarding SRV's '..lack of emotion/feeling...', don't waste your time on "Ain't Gonna Give up on Love". (Harriet may agree.) Good luck with your enterprise.
