Pete LaCock's father is Peter Marshall, best known as the legendary host of "The Hollywood Squares" from 1966 to 1981 (as well as a brief stint in 2002).

Wow. Wow wow wow. That story regarding the Tigers (my team of choice) and how they treated Randy Bass is wild. I look forward to seeing more Hanshin Tigers content in the future!

Boomer played with Syracuse for a couple of years to end the 70s. I heard from former teammate Steve Grilli that his son, former Pirates closer Jason Grilli, would always go to him for his second hand comic books!

Gotta love a 41 minute video, really living up to the “Gaijin Baseball” name by talking about so many gaijin 👀 And thank you for the Braves/Boomer slot!

Upvoted just for using the Yakuza 0 Disco music as an intro. And the video is great too.

26:47 There's another thing about Pete LaCock besides his name being Pete LaCock. His dad is Pierre LaCock, aka Peter Marshall from Hollywood Squares.

I was watching m.l.b. one Saturday and Pete Lacock put out Dave Laroach at first base.😆 It went right over the announcers heads.

35:52 Some of these pitching stats during the 80's require a bit more context............. NPB offense in the 80's was absolutely bonkers. lol Also, I am not sure if you took this into account or not, as it's slightly out of the scope of the video (the video is amazing mind you!) but of course NPB didn't (and still doesn't) play the same amount of games MLB teams do. Because of this, a while ago, I made a spreadsheet that tells what a NPB players stats would be if they played the same rate of MLB games for their career. I mention this because Bass's 1985 season? Had NPB played the same amount of games as MLB did, Bass's 1985 season may have resulted in 67 HR's. SIXTY. SEVEN.

I had no idea that Derrek Lee's dad and uncle were such legends in the Japanese game. That's so cool to know, especially since Derrek Lee was one of my favorite players as a kid. Love the channel btw and look forward to more videos that you post.

It's honestly a shame that Derrek didn't take a one year deal with the Chiba Marines just for shots and goggles. He would've been a fan favorite no matter how he did.

@@GaijinBaseball That would have been a sight to see. Would have been a great somewhat full circle moment for the Lee family to see Derrek play for the Marines in one final hurrah in 2012.

Cecil fielder was the one who pioneered playing back to mLB by doing well in NPB. Tigers mis management on Bass case was no surprise that tigers management was notoriously bad in history almost like became their traditions

The major reason was the strong 80s was the strong Yen during this period. Since the states trapped Japan by the Plaza Accord that weakened the Japanese economy, the buying power of NpB teams diminished

I wanna learn to speak Japanese really bad if anyone has any good suggestions how a person can learn that on their own? One thing I’ve noticed is whether it’s a name or a word, you never see a word that begins or has the letter L In Japanese.
