Yay! Thanks for the update guys. We are excited that you are heading up our way this year. The Statue of Liberty was amazing to see by boat, much gratitude to our French friends 🥰 St. Lawrence was so beautiful, with castles and interesting history. We are headed up to Martha's Vineyard and Block Island this year, both are very nice stops in the summer.

So I was going to mention it last week but was skiing and forgot. When you are looking for boat number 2 have you thought of a Beneteau 58. We have one and had it for the last 8 years. It has gone around the world or will have once we get back to France, currently it is in Turkey. So it is good to go around the world. There are two work areas and a decent kitchen. There are three heads but you can live with that. The main thing is that they can easily be sailed two up, we have done it, you can also have crew if you are social. It is a very big boat, but like I say it is easy to sail and you can have all the toys you need. We also have three 440W solar panels on our back arch and a 5KW Quattro, so they could be a very good advertisement for your batteries. They aren’t expensive second hand as well and if you aren’t snooty about buying a production boat, we love them. Just a thought

I’m very excited to see you are going to be cruising the Erie Canal. You’ll be entering Lake Ontario from the Oswego River. There are so many cool things along your route. My town is right on the Erie Canal my Grandfather work on a dredge and my cousin was a tugboat captain. I’m farther west about an hour from Oswego. We have many loopers stop at our town for the free wi-fi, laundry and showers and groceries in walking distance. Can’t wait to see the videos.

Very cute rental! In 1966, folk music legend and environmental activist Pete Seeger, in despair over the pollution of his beloved Hudson River, announced plans to “build a boat to save the river.” Seeger, along with many other concerned individuals, believed that a majestic replica of the sloops that sailed the Hudson in the 18th and 19th centuries would bring people to the river where they could experience its beauty and be moved to preserve it. As you sail upriver this Spring/Summer, you may see the “Clearwater”, Pete Seeger’s sloop sailing the Hudson urging residents to keep the river pollution free.

It’s good to see you back. Very glad you’ll be coming to Canada this next season. We live in Montreal and sailing on Champlain Lake (USA). Welcome to Canada, you’ll see it’s a great country, people are amazing. If you are in Montreal during the summer time, you’ll be able to see a lot of Festivals (Jazz etc…) plus Formula 1 championship mid-June. Quebec city is also a great place to spend sometimes. Sophie, you’ll notice a French spirit like in France. Be careful on the St-Lawrence after Quebec city going east, this river is very tricky (currents, tides, weather, fog etc…). Enjoy, and have a great / safe sailing experience.

Ryan: I bought 3 of the 135Ah "Dual Purpose" batts and I am looking forward to being "all lithium" as well. So far, I have just been testing them on my dining room table and amazing that they just pump out 100 amps continuous without skipping a beat! My AGMs would have croaked after 20 minutes of that! I am very much looking forward to your install as I am now poised to install mine. Do you need an alternator regulator (like the Balmar) or are these truly "drop in replacements?" Do you need the Sterling device to prevent the alternator from being fried if the BMS shuts of the batteries? Are these issues "solved" with the dual purpose batteries? I am hoping so -- with 405 Ah on the boat (and about 90% of that useable) I will never be checking the voltage again!! (Which does not matter for lithium anyway, I know) but nice not having to think the batteries are about to croak!! I spent the dough on the batts and am hoping I can continue to use my stock Hitachi 80 amp alternator without having to add anything else. Thanks!

@@eliinthewolverinestate6729 We did the Canal last year on a boat with a 5'-6" draft and two years prior to that on our boat with a 6'-6" draft. Our friends also made it thru that same year with a 7'-6" draft (barely, had to get towed by the Canal Corp tugs a couple times). They've been doing a lot of dredging the past couple years, so I would say anything under 7 foot draft is not a problem.

Using a small ozone generator to deodorize the cabin space is quite effective and virtually no work. Try to make it to Newfoundland south coast, St. Pierre-Miquelon and Fortune Bay, at least. If you can time Montreal just right you can take in the "Just for Laughs or Jazz festivals" to make it more interesting. Old Quebec city is a great stop for restaurants and a tour of the Citadel/Plains of Abraham where the fate of North America was decided between the generals Montcalm and Wolf. Lastly do not skip Prince Edward Island on your route where the beach water can be 20 degrees because of the Gulf stream instead of 0 in Maine. Happy travels.

Looks very reasonable after its winter wrap up. You must be happy about that. The immigrant process can be a total croc. Imagine, you've lived in a country for 35 years. Been a citizen for 33 years go to get your passport renewed and they refuse because the country no longer recognizes a document legally issued by another state. I worked for the government for 18 years and was within one plane trip of being deported. We need to be careful who we vote for.
@ajkgordon
@ajkgordon Год назад
Being an immigrant and going through the system can be tough, even between wealthy countries with normalised relations and regularised immigration processes. But imagine what it's like for those from less well-integrated countries fleeing war, persecution and economic or environmental catastrophe. The risks and dangers for you and your family and weighing that against the dangers of traffickers, small boats across dangerous seas and shipping channels. And then being labelled as terrorists, swarms, invaders and criminals by unthinking populist politicians. Ryan saw first hand the risks people are prepared to take to make a safer and better life. I wish we could all have something like that experience so we can make better decisions about who we elect to office who in turn will make better decisions about the reality of migration.

With respect to your immigration struggles: you are right about moving on, turning the page. There are relatively few folks in the world who would understand what you have been through. The rest don't get it, and to be honest, they likely don't care either. I failed in migrating to the USA, my partner (at the time in USA) also failed in getting from temporary to permanent status. Then we worked on migrating my partner to the Netherlands and that was also 1.5 year long drama, as we couldn't live together. Eventually, we managed to get permanent residency in Canada, where we now live for almost 15 years. I have erased the emotions from my memory, and one day you will too. BTW, looking forward to your journey through Canada!

Sophie, I'm glad you worked out your immigration issues. However, I recall from an older video that there was a previous error on your part, which complicated the matter significantly. I think it is only fair that when discussing the matter that this is also mentioned. I am not minimizing your issues, by any stretch, but I know this topic gets a lot of feathers in a fluff. I just think the entire story should be told. As a child of immigrants, I do understand the frustrations. I faced a similar, long, expensive, and frustrating journey getting my citizenship to my parents' european homeland. Six years of work. And, I was in the easiest category to get approved. So, it's not just the US immigration system that is difficult. But, glad you made it, and looking forward to more videos.

I have no idea what “mistake” you refer to. Their was no mistake made on our part, I just happened to be an easy denial back in 2019 when I initially applied for a tourist visa. Only mistake made was maybe to not have hired a lawyer back then. Our immigration struggles have been used countless times to affirm political narratives completely disconnected from our reality and I owe my story to no one.

Welcome back and congratulations on your residency status. Unless the rules have changed since they applied to me, you cannot be away from the US for more than 180 days at a time so remember to fly ‘home’ from time to time if you are long distance cruising. A short visit resets your 180 days but do not mess with this rule (which may or may not still be in force), if you do you will lose your permanent resident status. Looking forward to your river cruise.

As veterans of three Erie Canal transits (one with a Beneteau and two with Jeanneau's), advise you sign up for notices from the NYS Barge Canal Corporation to know when the Canal is expected to open for the season. It varies from year to year based on rainfall in the Canal Region as the Canal is part of the flood control. The Canal typically doesn't open until Mid-May, sometimes later,, so if you depart the Chesapeake too early, you could get to Waterford and then have to wait. It's about 6 travels days from Annapolis to the start of the Erie Canal, not counting the day or two waiting to remove your mast and any other layovers you schedule, such as New York City.

Hi Sophie & Ryan! Great to hear that you are doing well! Great also to have you back on youtube after your well earned break. I’m looking forward to following your adventures in 2023. Barnacle looks like a fabulous puppy, both cute and smart.🤗🇸🇪

When you guys get to Albany, Ny. My wife and I would love to take you two out to dinner. Our treat and we have a lake house in the Adirondacks if you need a few days off the boat.

Great to see you three again. So nice to know your safe and preparing for future episodes in real time. So sad that Immigration malfunction's have upset your emotional status and pray given time, this will pass. We can't wait for your voyage North and wish you the best on this venture.
