I love how rex walks right up to wrecker after he gets thrown around by him and gets in his face and says you'll be a lot smaller when i'm done with you. that is a confident, strong approach to someone bigger than you
Don't forget he's a Captain facing a Trooper - sure, an Elite trooper of sorts, but still towers over Wrecker by rank. I don't think Captain Rex is as hot-headed as Wrecker that he'd fight him head on, but he can definitely bring Wrecker down by his report as Captain if it came to it.
@@Vikingr4Jesus5919 true but they were just in a "fight" with Jesse and we know the bad batch don't really like to work with regs so I'm sure between wrecker and crosshair they would want to fight lol
@@Vikingr4Jesus5919 The problem is, while Rex is an officer, he's an officer of a different unit. He has no direct authority over Wrecker. Yes they're on a joint operation and yes Rex outranks him, but as is often the case of join operations, Rex can't actually order him around the same way Hunter can. He can write a report about wrecker but it's up to Wreckers officer (Hunter or any unseen superior above him) to actually determine whether Rex's recommended punishment is carried out. It would be like an army lieutenant giving orders to a marine, it doesn't really happen. This was all a really long winded way of saying, they're on more even terms than you think.
@@warhawk9566 A fair observation. I do wonder, how do you know an Army officer would not give orders to Marines? Just wondering. And then, I suppose it remains to be seen. We may never get to see such a scenario again where Cpt Rex is challenged by a guy from a different unit. But seeing as the "Bad Batch" Unit 99 is a rather unique one, it would be interesting to see which would stand stronger: The word of a Captain from the battle-hardened and later on even considered elite 501st Battalion (regulars) which has a Jedi General (Skywalker) against the word of a Sgt. from an elite though irregular unit which does not even have a proper Jedi General. I know many fans like irregular characters as they definitely add up to the story. But in strict military terms, the word of an experienced Captain with a Jedi General stands quite strong against a Sgt. of irregulars when you consider the military supporters they do/don't have - Jedi Generals, amount of men under their charge, overall battle reports, opinion from Republic officials and possibly Senators...yes, a lot to think about, and rather waste of time if you'd ask me. But I do think Captain Rex would come out stronger if it came to such a debate.
@@mikeburner7406 See, thing is, this is Star Wars we're talking about here. Not our world's military sense. There are articles about how the army of the Republic has "strange" ranking systems, to name one thing. Strange compared to ours, that is. Not saying you're wrong about the US military. It's just that, wouldn't you say it seems a bit like comparing pears to apples?
@@walkthr0ughandf8n I like to headcanon that post-ROTJ (in the EU) that once the New Republic got up and running he ironically took that Imperial officer's advice and started teaching new recruits about Clone Wars-era battle strategies in particular the exploits of Anakin and how going by the book isn't everything and that you have a duty to your men to keep them safe and to question orders when they don't make sense.
i love when hes promoting fives and echo, its all serious then he drops "reminds me of me actually" and smirks so codys just like "bruh can you be serious for 5 minutes" and steps in quickly
Commando droid: Take off your mask. Let me see your faceplate. Rex: *Holds commando droid head from the dead droid* Commando droid’s processor: seems legit.
@@captain-commander8138 LOL! I'm thinking more like 501th a star wars story, or The raise of captain Rex. It would show how Rex got his name and became the captain of the 501th.
Saw: “I always they forget they can do that” Rex: “yeah but hes no Skywalker” Kanan: “I HEARD THAT” Kanan and Rex’s relationship throughout rebels was gold
“I hate to tell you this, but they don’t CARE! This ship is going down and those soldiers, MY BROTHERS, are willing to die and take you and me along WITH THEM!”
That scene, that moment, you can tell as hes saying those words, Rex's very being was shaken, as after all the fighting he did with the 501st (and 332nd in this case) only for him to be shooting his own men who were then systematically turned against someone they'd fought with for years, for Rex his entire life was crashing down just like the Venator he was trying to escaoe with Ahsoka.... It hits hard when you think about it, the end of an era all together especially after the lastest episode of bad batch
@@captainrex5934 What you've done in your life; you've certainly earned such high respect. Few people can be considered to be living legends Captain, I'm sure you're among the best of those few. You served The Republic greatly, even if it didn't reward you for your service.
13:10 "Oh no, the war- it's not over!" This is one of the only instances of real PTSD in Star Wars, Rex has been through a lot and it shows through more than just his grey beard.
I love how Rex paid attention and remembered everything he ever learned from the Jedi and was able to pass it on to Ezra. A man who was programmed to kill Jedi and ended up being able to teach them
9:42, I always love this part of the movie because Rex knew that she was trying to use the force to persuade him to call Anakin out of of hiding so that's why he said Anakin instead of General Skywalker because she had said "you will contact General Skywalker now" while he clinched his fist knowing that he could warn him. Stronger than the average clone.
I'm pretty sure he didn't decide to say "Anakin" and instead it was Ventress who told him to say that during the mind trick. That's what made Anakin realize Captain Rex was being mind tricked. If it were really Rex he would have addressed him as "General Skywalker." Ventress didn't think that one through.
@@McKayPorter in the comics, it is made clear that he resisted Ventress’s mind trick, and acted in order to avoid being killed immediately. In Clone Wars, he would address Anakin by rank (out of respect),so it was a shock to both Ahsoka, and Anakin when he didn’t in that scene. Since he already knew that Anakin, and Ahsoka were hiding, they were tipped off to trouble when he requested Anakin’s location.
I know! I literally cry every single time. My logic for Star Wars is that it’s all fun and games until Rex, Ahsoka or Obi-wan start crying. Then shit gets real.
If Rex taught us anything, it's that good soldiers follow order, but the best soldiers do what's right in spite of the orders they're given. The best men have to learn to make their own decisions and to always fight for what's right. Everyone nay not always agree on what's right, but no one can ask more of you than to stand up for what you believe in.
I always forget that Rex is 4 years younger than Ahsoka (It was said in the novelisation of the clone wars film that Ahsoka was 14 and that Rex was 10)
Rex is probably the most relatable clone of them all. And that is perhaps because he survives all the way to episode 6. The way he felt about the war is much like the way veterans felt about veitnam, and more recent wars like iraq and afghanistan. Ezra represents the curious kid who missed out on the entire war. Grew up without war. It's so good, they portray veterans so well. Rex was a hell of a soldier, and a good man. o7
Fun fact: It was mentioned at the end of Star Wars Rebels that Rex fought in the battle of Endor. And if you watch Star Wars Episode 6 and have a closer look on the rebel fighters you will see that one of them really looks like the old captain Rex.
That scene with Rex dreaming and he calls Kanen “Cody” always makes me sad. Rex never got closure where Cody was concerned. I’d have loved to see Rex and Cody meet up again, but I’d be sad too because Cody still had his chip and went with the Empire, it would have broken Rex’s heart to fight Cody. I do wonder who would win, I say Rex, but I don’t know if that’s because Rex is/was better than Cody, or because Rex is my favourite. I’m reading an AMAZING fanfic, in it Rex pushes for the Jedi to investigate what Fives said. They find out about Order 66, the 501 and 212 get their chips removed and they stay loyal to the Republic and the Jedi. It’s SO FUCKING GOOD! 28 chapters in it, I’m on chapter 24, and it’s getting INTENSE!!!!!
"What if I AM choosing the life I want?! What if I'm staying in the army because it's meaningful to me? Because I'm part of the most pivotal moment in the history of the Republic. If we fail, then our children and their children could be forced to live under an evil I can't well imagine!" Poor Rex... he had such a legitimately strong belief in what he was doing and had zero clue that it was all for nothing the entire time until it was too late. All that fighting and sacrifice and his worst fear came true anyway... The sheer depression from that would absolutely crush me to dust. But even after all that Rex still found the resolve to fight against the Empire into his elderly age. Much like how Obi-Wan is an example of a pure Jedi, Rex is the perfect example of a pure warrior. The end of the line won't stop him from continuing to fight until he dies.
It's wild seeing Fives asking Rex is that what he was engendered to think back on Umbara .Then uncovered the plot, and tried to tell Rex. Order 66 happens Rex tells Ahsoka to find Fives.....brilliant writing
You should definitely try Fives, Padme, Anakin/Vader, and Ahsoka, but it wouldn't hurt if you added live action quotes that way you could do those of Luke, Leia, Finn, and Rey
Rex standing up to wrecker is just amazing. Rex and fives I feel are the two strongest clones in the show ( I know the bad batch have extra abilities so to speak , but Rex and fives seem to have a different mindset from other clones)
Agent Kallus (as I know him): "Why would she give command to you? I commanded Star Destroyers." Cpt Rex: "Well I'd say you answered your own question then." Way to go Cpt Rex!
After all the Clone Wars episodes and everything, that scene between Anakin and Rex in the move then ends in "The mission always comes first, sir" just becomes that much more impactful

“Look, I don’t doubt you can pull it off, but I don’t thin fives and I will be around to see it”. One of the few times Rex talked to Anakin on an informal and rankless way
It was great to see Rex survive the entirety of the clone wars and even all of this. The sheer level of determination and courage that man had, even fighting off the effects of the inhibitor chip for a few moments, absolute legend of a clone soldier.
