I did some research on the lead actor. Cuneyt Arkin is basically the turkish Charles Bronson and is the guy Seagal wished to be. He was once a doctor, was in the military, and he did his own stunts that mostly involved acrobatics and horse riding stunts, he also had problems with alcohol which led to experience violent events but he eventually recovered and went to seminars to teach young people about the dangers of alcohol abuse. He died last year at the age of 84. Man lived a wild life.

I would have liked a documentary with Cuneyt as Dr, Hunter S Thompsons interpreter as he goes to Turkey to report on something, it would have to be filmed in the early 1980s. In some alternate timeline, this thing exists.

Cüneyt Arkın is a legend for Turkish people. He is the greatest action film star in Turkish cinema, having appeared in over 300 films. During his career, he has also worked in many circuses, including the French Medrano Circus to learn horse riding and acrobatics.He was also a Karate master. He was an exemplary citizen, a great man with so many talents, a true role model.

My family was stationed in Turkey in the 80s. To prove how little f*cks Turkey gives about Copyright, you walk into a Record Store and you browse the LPs then you fill out a list with name of the albums and the name of the songs. Then you would come back two days later and they would give you a cassette tape with your choices.

Oh we were still doing that even during the late 90's with casettes. The tradition moved to CD's in the early 2000's when shops got a hold of CD writers. Games, songs, movies, you name it, they burned it. They even printed stickers and covers for CD's. At some point government decided to crack down but failed to stop it so instead, I'm not kidding, they started letting them make and sell illegal copies as long as they got a permit, a holographic sticker and they paid tax. Yep, Turkish govt was officially taxing pirates at one point, no joke. Guess when this whole thing died out? When high speed internet and Torrents became widely available...
@sudharshangarg8936
@sudharshangarg8936 17 дней назад
That was India also. Back in the 80's even if you cared about copyrights you simply didn't get most tapes released here. So these stores would get one tape from Singapore or Dubai, create a large library of these tapes where you could give requests. I had a tape once with MLTR, MJ Bolton, Boney M and a few others. It stopped only in the late 90's

Other ones that need to be seen: - Turist Ömer Uzay Yolu'nda, commonly known as Turkish Star Trek, with music stolen from Pink Floyd - Badi, the infamous ET rip-off with the creepiest alien ever and it's more of a horror than a family movie. - Homoti, the lesser known, but indefinitely weirder ET knock off as most of the movie consists of stolen CGI footage and a ET costume so horrible it defines the term uncanny valley - Seytan, the also infamous turkish Exorcist - Korkusuz, one of the many, many Rambo knock-offs with the worst Rocket Launcher in movie history - Vahsi Khan, the other turkish Rambo, starring Cüneyt Arkin - Çöl, Jaws in Turkey - Kara Simsek, the turkish Rocky - Cellat, because of course there's also a turkish Death Wish and lastly Ölüme Son Adım, the world definitely needed a turkish version of Mad Max, also starring once again Cüneyt Arkin

Boy, I discovered this movie at school and I was OBSESSED. Every weekend some friends and I went to somebody's house just to play videogames and watch the damn movie. On one of my birthdays I received the DVD of the film along with the biography in turkish of the main actor (Cüneyt Arkin) as gifts. Since then, it is a tradition for me to watch the film with my wife on my birthday. Aside from how hilariously bad it is, it's a film that I am very fond of, since it has helped me in very difficult moments of my life, no matter how lost or broken I felt, this film always made me laugh and forget everything. Last year when I received the news that Cüneyt Arkin had passed away, I felt very sad as if it were a close friend. It only remains to say, wherever you are, sir, thank you for bringing happiness to my life.

Some fun facts: Turkish Star Wars has multiple cuts with multiple color gradings, title screens, title music, and even different translations of Turkish to English. Many of these can be found around the internet. My current count of copies I've collected around the net totals 4. Aside from that, the story is still the same schlock. The movie includes scenes, music, and sound effects lifted from 'Star Wars', 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', 'Moonraker', 'Flash Gordon', 'Ben-Hur', 'Planet of the Apes', 'The Black Hole', and 'The Magic Sword'. The plot of the 'Star Wars' scenes at the beginning follows like this: Humans evolved over billions of years to go beyond the solar system, leaving behind the "space age" and living in the "galaxy age". No force in the galaxy could withstand the might of the humans. That is until one force attempted to steal human brains because they were the most powerful weapon in the galaxy (and his people didn't have brains, I think). If the opening montage wasn't confusing enough, the space battle is really bad. This will clear it up: Murat and Ali are flying the TIE fighters while the enemies are flying the X-wings and Y-wings. The Death Star is supposed to be the enemy's "planet" which destroyed the Earth. A lot of the extra Star Wars footage (like scenes of the Falcon) are just filler. An original print was found and bought by a private collector who has no plans to release it due to copyright (though at the time I wrote that on IMDB, someone DID in fact make a high quality bluray copy and distribute it and it's hella expensive to find a copy). There is a spiritual sequel called Turks In Space- Dünyayi Kurtaran Adam'in Oglu (The Son Of The man Who Saved The World) which, unlike the original, does not follow in the tradition of lifting actual film footage and the only thing that connects it is some short exposition of how the two movies coexist, otherwise you could watch it and know nothing of the original and be fine. On a less related note, Barry Lewis has posted a video making Turkish Delight four hours before this. Coincidence? Probably.

From what I understand the movie was supposed to be way different, but they built all the sets on a beach and a storm washed everything away. So they "borrowed" a copy of Star Wars from a local theater and spliced in some footage to save the movie. I also like how basically all the movies starring Cüneyt Arkın have "Adam" in the title. It makes it seem like a series of movies about a guy named Adam, but it's just the Turkish word for man. Yep, the 13th Tribe is from Battlestar Galactica. BG was created by a Mormon, and the Mormons believe they are the lost 13th tribe of Israel. BG is basically an analogy for the Mormons' supposed history, with them seeking the rest of their tribe while lost in the desert and fleeing their enemies. There are also suggestions in the series that, e.g., ancient Egypt was founded by some of the humans fleeing the Cylons, but all that got thrown completely out the window with Battlestar Galactica 1980.

I think I figured out the plot... I think this dude is actually Indiana's Dad, Sean Connery, when he was younger. This actually explains the star wars aspect since R2 and C3PO are hieroglyphics in temple of doom.

I totally had an Erin moment and cry laughed for a solid ten minutes before I could continue. Then every time Erin says, 'you're gonna wanna rub some salad on that,' I lost it all over again. You know, serviceable as it is in its smut I thought that Flesh Gordon stood alone atop of the dustbin and that it would never have to compete with any other production but then someone goes and makes mention of a Clapton Planet and my whole world gets turned upside down! And then along comes Turkish Star Wars, chopping its way through beasts great and small to both change the question and alter the landscape (not even needing a Death Star of its own to do so!) With its insanity cranked to a fever pitch (unspooling at a rate of an alien mummy) you have here the clearest cut example of a movie which authentically captures the feeling of grownups getting in touch with their inner child and cutting loose with adult-sized toys; with it all being captured on camera to later be sold for mass consumption. Truly a great time to be had here guys! My sincerest compliments!

I cried when I learnt Cuneyt Arkin passed away. He knew when he was going to die as well, another actress named Fatma Girik passed away not long before him and he said, 'Fatma, wait for me, I'm behind you!'. I grew up with his movies and still watch them to this day. Nothing like the old Turkish movies. Cuneyt Arkin's presence in the movies is like no one else, such great charisma and cinematic presence, he was also an honest person in real life from what I know.

The title thing is kind of like how Mad Max 2 was called The Road Warrior in the US. Focus groups found that audiences in Turkmenistan found "Turkish Star Wars" too confusing, because of the Turk thing but also because Star Wars was banned there, and so added something more descriptive to attract audiences to Turkmenistan's cinema.

When Turkish Star Wars showed up on a limited edition blu ray last year, I grabbed it right away. Bought it twice, actually, because the local video store I frequented wanted a copy for rentals, and I got one for them. Actually, it's not as bad as many people are convinced it is. They look at the stolen Star Wars footage and they judge it solely on that, but the story is very different, and definitely more than the sum of its parts. I actually liked the film. When Cuneyt Arkin died, I said that if he had only made this film, he would still be a cult figure. But he was a very talented performer and martial artist, and while I haven't seen any of his films except this, I appreciate his talent. RIP sir.
