Ordinary Things Hey dude you need to reach out to jacksfilms! He's giving people exposure by grading their videos. I'm gonna send this to you on multiple places so that you notice it quickly
I think it's a shame that u didn't talk about the apocriphae( a.k.a censored by romans bible) where the JC himself goes down there to do the religious equivalent of kicking butt, and take all of the souls (like from Adam all the way to John the Baptist) from hell to paradise, closing humanity's saga of being expeled from the garden of eden that was established in Genesis. So, anyway, this is why the bible manga is better than this netflix adaptation of "holy bible'. Tcs, smh
@@echu.6929 Actually the whole thing was about the travel of souls to redemption But if a medieval Italian can insult a medieval Italian Obviously he will
@@echu.6929 A website about the top biggest revenge stories described it as if Eminem made an entire album about dissing and insulting you. And the church was so hurt by this book that they tried to stop it's publishing but couldn't, and even tried to build more churches but they never recovered from it. Screw the bible and Quran THIS is how you attain perfection. Fought the world's most corrupt and powerful religion and made an eternal scar still seeping into their veins like taxes and money seep into the church's pockets.
There is a river named Cocytus near my house and never knew the name ment something! Also I live 30 min away from a necromancer place where it's said to be the entrance to Hades. All in all, nice neighborhood!
The funny thing is that this same thing will happen. In Islam the one who reached heaven will be very thankful but some will question where there friends are so they ask ALlah and they see them through a screen in hell suffering.. they are glad that they didn't follow their friends deeds...
"They plagiarized the snuffing of a souls existence after death from reality." lmao dude I found this so funny I actually cried and wailed in existential agony.
@@OrdinaryThings Just got here via the same path. I will, eventually learn to stop calling you Steed. But first I have to post heavily dated comments to your entire catalog.
The Internet Historian... Did not sent me! No no no. I found this channel, got amazed, subed, and than I randomly stumbled upon the gentleman pirate. Imagine the wtf i felt, and again when I came here to see ya all went other way around :D
The Linkin Park and 3 Days Grace AMVs wail through the brimstone catacombs for all eternity, and all ye take the form of the earliest drawing of yer OC on Deviant Art. Not that new one you drew in Corel, the one that’s a self insert edit of Sonic the Hedgehog lineart and colored in with MSPaint
All of Christianity is a wired mix of retcons, additions, and appendixes to Judaism and even to itself. As the video said, the Bible itself is very vague when it comes to the afterlife. In fact, some scholars don't even think that the earliest Christians believed in the afterlife, just that the dead would be resurrected in the future.
@@ZephLodwick I agree one hundred percent, that's why I found that Extended Universe bit so funny. So many Christians look at the Bible as the one true book, but there is no one true version of it. Like you said, it's full of all kinds of retcons!
as the Bible kept getting copied, eventually there's gonna be misinterpreting. But, from my understanding, the first draft (I guess) was made up of all the books(Genesis, Revelations, etc.), the authors of these books were "Divinely inspired" by God, therefore what they wrote was essentially coming straight from God. After that though, the people who made copy's of the Bible were not "Divinely Inspired" so they could've misinterpreted or just made a typo, and boom that change will now be present in the rest of the copy's made. I hope that this was easy to understand/makes sense, as sometimes my brain goes faster than my fingers.
@@prince_vibe_check3879 But wasn't the Bible like compiled at this one conference, back in the day, like the took out a bunch of books. These guys would also have had to be devinely inspired, right?
@@jochenarnold7215 Are you saying if the Bible was made at a council at one time? The books were made at separate times, by separate authors. The general conseus is that St. Jerome compiled the Bible in 400 AD, he didn't select the books though, he simply translated them and put them into a singular volume, this edition is referred to as "The Vulgate". But, when the authors were divinely inspired, it was essentially writing what God said, so God acted through them to write those books. The Bible canon, (Which are the books accepted as Holy Scripture) was decided by Rabbis,Scholars, early christians. But, Im not necessarily sure if they were inspired, I suppose so. To be honest, some of this stuff might be wrong, so I suggest you read and watch people who know a lot more than me.
Actually, with the Greek and Egyptian afterlives, there are a few things wrong. The Egyptian afterlife, if you don't do well on the scales, you are fed to a best-god, while the good ones went to essentially heaven. The Greek afterlife is one giant realm, where different sections reside, the truly wicked to Tartarus, Asphodel Meadow for ok souls, and good souls to the Elyssian Fields.
If the sun is hell, is the moon heaven? Just imagine Neil taking a few steps and he turns around and Jesus is just standing there eating some cornflakes with big glowing eye-rings (angels) next to him staring into his soul and the 12 apostles T posing in the direction of the Earth.
In Dante's Paradiso (last book of the divine comedy) there is actually the concept of the several planets of the solar system being heavens for different people. Depending on what your virtues were in life you'd go to different heavens. Great Christian warriors would go to Mars while people who were very virtuous in love went to Venus. Bit pagan for a Christian if you ask me and also rather unpleasant cause all the planets are just going to kill you over and over.
@@hert_man177 so that would make the existence of hell more plausible. If different seperate cultures have the same concept of an afterlife for the damned?
@@BrickMediaStudios no, no it doesn't. modern religions are simply adaptations of older religions which were themselves adaptations of older religions and so on. Hence so many religions sharing so many attributes like heaven, hell, what is sinful, whether or not screwing little boys is cool, etcetera...
The fact that this came out in February of 2020 is proof that Ordinary Things can see the future. For much of Earth, that was the last month of the before times. Shit hit the fan in March.
Honestly, when I got sent to work from home in March 2020, I saw it as a break from having to see anyone. And I still like it almost 2 years later. People are overrated.
These videos are so well written. Also props to the way everything is delivered from the way you speak to the editing. I haven't found a channel that feels like a breath or fresh air and not just the same shit we've seen a thousand times in at least a year so it's good to see. On the topic of hell, even though hell itself doesn't show up on screen another great movie in that wheelhouse is the film The Devils from 1971, I'd recommend to everyone. Keep this shit up brother.
oh interesting. I did a bit of research into Islamic Hell before deciding not to focus on it. But the giant tree of human faces that exists there is some wild Meth-binge level madness
@@OrdinaryThings Oh lol, yeah Zaqqum trees and their "fruits" are pretty intense. But not really all that weird, Im not sure where the devil's face came from, but in the Qura'an its fruits are described as "the food of the sinners." And in a crazy place like hell, I don't see it so far-fetched.
Just wanted to let you know internet historian sent me here and I love it. Your humor and style caters to all my humoristic fetishes. Instant sub, keep up the great work
I watch your videos when I'm going to really rough times and man, the scoffs and laughs this causes reminds me that times aren't always going to be bad.
8:46 I reach almost the opposite conclusion; The fact that ADGTH could instill such horror in me makes me think the archetypes are very deeply embedded. We as individuals may be un-serious, but those images are really quite in there. That little sequence always scared the shit out of me.
"A pretty bold suggestion that was later found to have been plagiarized from reality" - Laughed so much I had to stop the video not to lose anything... pure genius!
i sometimes listen to music with religious and/or satanic references and always get these on it, they will appear on anything remotely relating to a religious topic its basically youtube wanting you to go down the religion (and/or atheism and religious debate) rabbit hole because it gets crazy amounts of watch time on their platform when people go down it
@@mrpineapplecc5342wow i'm sorry for you! being a victim of razing must've been terrifying, hope the people who razed you are brought to justice!!! ❤❤❤
"....suggesting that there was no hell, and that when sinners died they were just snuffed from existence. A pretty bold suggestion that was later found to have been plagiarized from reality." Brilliant!
Imagine stealing an old ladies purse, running into the near elevator and press the downward button. But the elevator keeps going down and down and when it opens you're straight in hell
and it derives from old germanic believe where the god of death was named "hel". so basically vikings and germanic people believed themselves they were going to hel and maybe if they were the best fighters to valhalla. so church just stole the word and said "this place where they are going hel ... it is actually bad place"
Ordinary Things me too, I hate all religions pretty much and I’m not religious but the history and stories are interesting. Shame my religion teacher was such shit lol.
Dude you are my favorite channel right now. If I had tons of money to throw at you to release more videos I totally would. This video is fucking hilarious and informative.
What's really interesting to me is that prior to there being an actual "Church," when it was just various sects of Christians, there were a lot of different views on Hell and punishment. In fact, in those early days, the concept of Universal Reconciliation, the idea that Hell was not eternal and that in the fullness of time God would reconcile all unto Himself, was somewhat common. Then, as with most things that made shit worse, the Catholic Church arrived! UR has had a bit of a revival since the 1980's, and it's what I personally believe. Still, fascinating to hear the full history!
@@jamesb.russell2942 This might have been a misunderstanding of between the idea of catholicism and the actual catholic church, but historically the institution of the Catholic church as we know it was born in 380 CE when emperor Theodosious adopted christianity as the official religion of he roman empire. Yes, catholicism can be traced to the teachings of jesus, but the organized catholic church only formed much later
I learned in my college philosophy courses that hell was a means for the church to make everyday citizens behave, coincidentally, law and politics work very similarly; it is a sin to kill thy neighbor, it is also illegal to kill someone. It's sinful to steal, it's also looked down upon to steal
Morality isn't supposed to be practical. How does saying that gay acts are wrong make society behave? The romans did just fine. So that argument is false.
I wonder what God would think, if he found out that his followers were lying about the existence of hell to scare people into believing. I bet God wouldn't like that his followers make him sound like a cruel and vindictive God.
As someone who was locked in a windowless room for three weeks as a teenager with nothing but a jacket and beans I can assure anyone wondering that true solitary confinement is probably worse than hell. Great video!
Cue my favourite lawyer joke. A lawyer has to have a very serious operation, and when he comes round after the anaesthetic, he finds the window curtains of his room have been closed. When a nurse comes in, he asks her why. She says, "Through the night, there was a huge fire across the street, and we were frightened that when you woke up, you'd think you'd died".
This is the textual representation of the meme, where the character wants to challenge the proposal with their index finger, but in the next picture they relent, their index finger now limp as if to say that "well you're definitely not wrong"
