Yet female country singers (*cough cough Carrie Underwood *cough *cough) who have lyrics about killing their husbands who cheat on them is considered fine.

I’m a catholic and there is no sin to listening to something that acknowledges the bad things in the world I think it’s healthier than a Karen telling me what to do.

Christian metalhead here. There is no such thing as “evil music”. Music is what you choose to make of it. Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne and even James Hetfield are actually Christians. These are the founders of heavy metal. Just because you look scary doesn’t mean you are evil. Heck, the Bible says angels, messengers of God look terrifying. Yes there are satanists and satanic themes in heavy metal but there are musical and artistic masterpieces in the Renaissance about satanic themes. Just because you put lyrics and an electric guitar into classical symphonic music doesn’t make it incredibly evil. Also, there’s such thing as Christian Metal. Eg. Stryper, Narnia

My mom's a HUGE country music fan, she told me metal is immoral once, so I played one of her favorite songs. A love song in which the artist wants for a woman, "but the reason I must go is on the other hand". She never realized it was about adultery. So MANY country songs are about pre/extramarital sex, drinking, fighting, murder... and it flies right over the heads of so many of their fans 🤣

My 15 year old has been a metal head since birth. He's one of the kindest, most respectful, considerate teens I know. Kids grow up to be violent jerks because of poor parenting, lack of attention or insufficient meaningful communication with adults, not because of music. To all those worried moms out there: try listing to your kids without judgement, try unconditional love, try giving your kids boundaries while communicating why those boundaries exist, try allowing your child to experience logical consequences for their decisions while pairing that with meaningful guidance on how to make better choices in future, try treating your child like a person instead of an accessory to your image, try letting them express themselves while showing them healthy outlets for their feelings, try validating your kids feelings without encouraging them to think they are the center of the universe. Parenting is hard. Finding a balance between authority and ally is hard. Offering guidance without trying to make your child in your own image is hard. Learning to admit to your kids that parents are humans that make mistakes is hard, and apologizing when you are wrong is hard. Setting a good example every day because your child is watching you is hard. It's the most difficult and important job you'll ever do. You won't be a perfect parent, but you can try your best, and you can be honest with your children. You can show your kids that learning is a process that never stops, and that as long as you never give up then you'll be able to be proud of your own accomplishments some day. Love your kids and rock on.

Do Karen's even know what music is?

If only they could see the irony, the parallels between their youth, and the youth they complain about. Parents in the 50s were certain that Elvis' swinging hips were going to be the downfall of society. Parents in the 60s had plenty of drug and sex related music to concern themselves over. Parents in the 70s partly faced the continuation of 60s music, but also had all kinds of war-related songs and drug paraphernalia to fret over. These 80s and 90s Karen's just needed to sit down with their mamas and get a little dose of history.

Still waiting on the day that we get a metalhead in the Whitehouse. It will be a good day.

Tipper Gore was basically insane, she claimed the shit about D&D that she did heavy metal. Been listening metal and playing D&D my whole life and I've never committed a crime or physically harmed anyone. Make no mistake this was never about morality...ever, it was about social control. Anyone who didn't fit into their little box had to be suppressed or removed that's always been the goal. Not some vague notion of a "purer" more polite society.

I don’t believe that mother saying the music caused her son to become mentally unstable. I don’t believe for a second her home was so loving and stable as she claims it was. When I was a a child, I listened to music to escape from the abuse going on in my home. I found Depeche Mode at the age of 10. Their music saved my life.

Was shopping at the HEB a few months back, and as i strolled past the frozen section to grab some popcorn shrimp, a sharply dressed old man (like 65-ish) noticed my Amon Amarth shirt and told me i needed to "repent before i end up in Hell". I looked at him and said, "Hell?... If I'm going anywhere it's Valhalla" all the while flashing the horns at him. He didn't say much after that, he just had the most perplexed look on his face.

This is almost nostalgic for me and I actually thank some of these Karens (most notably Tipper Gore) for opening my mind. I was strictly into punk at the time of the Satanic Panic, and was most concerned about what was happening to The Dead Kennedys, until the legends that are Dee Snider and John Denver spoke up in court and earned my teenage respect. 'We're Not Gonna Take It' indeed!

It’s just a chemical imbalance in his brain, and if the music that speaks to him helps to make sense if the world so be it. Just don’t try to blame the music that makes sense to him on the disease that he has. Correlation does not equal causation, a fact that so many people in the general public still need to learn
