I always thought 'the anger of a gentle man' referred to Kvothe himself, when he kills the false Edema Ruh troupe for their cruelty towards the girls. The other two wise man's fears are displayed in the second book - it seems to make more sense that they all are.

In Book 1, Kvothe recalls Teccam’s Theophany when confronted by Lorren’s anger: "Before anything else could be said, Lorren stormed into the room. His normally placid expression was fierce and hard. I felt myself sweat cold and I thought of what Teccam wrote in his Theophany: There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man. Lorren towered over the entry desk. “Explain,” he demanded of the nearby scriv. His voice was a tight coil of fury." So, the quote stretches as far back as book 1, but I think you're definitely right about it referring to Kvothe as well. We know he has a nasty temper :)

I think that if "the anger of a gentle man" refers to kvothe it has to do with his time in ademre. The translation of the ademre word for lifeforce is anger, and it is revealed that there is something within kvothe that is deeper than the lethani, and dark besides.

My guess is that after Kvothe is expelled from the University, Ambrose will have put in place a tight Web of people around the University to ensure Kvothe gets what's coming to him (Kote did seem to say that Ambrose was instrumental in his expulsion). Friendless & alone, Kvothe will hide in the Underthing with Auri only to call on Devi for help, using the only piece of collateral he has left... how to get into the archives. The Four Plate Door may be opened then, if it isn't already opened by Kvothe.

Devi is very well read which is established many times in the books - so its completely reasonable that she will have read Teccam's philosophies. It seemed to me like she was using the quote as a way of telling Kvothe how badly he messed up. That being said i also do believe she has a very critical role in the next book. I agree that she is interested in the 4 plate door.

Some mythologies have a Angels and Demons as essentially the same thing. It would be interesting if Devi was both the key and what he had to fight to keep it

Great video! I’m also interested in what Kvothe’s “heart’s desire” could actually be: the obvious answers are the Amyr or a way to kill the Chandrian, but there are so many misdirections in Rothfuss’s writing, I wonder if it could instead be “a family”, a less conscious yearning, and he might find it in some blood connection with the Chandrian, or at least the Lackless clan. “Valeritas” might be “that which you value most”...

Anyone else thinks Devi is the woman kvothe sets up the stage for in the name of the wind ch 48? Rothfuss make us believe it’s Denna later on when they sing together, but he had already mentioned denna in earlier chapters.

Very few youtubers care to talk about kingkiller stuff. And also don't forget about Brandon Sanderson. It would be very interesting seeing you making a video about Stormlight archive or Mistborn.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm working full time at the moment at a job that is quite a distance from where I live. Being a lawyer also makes it rather difficult for me to upload more frequently (especially considering much of my job is in an office and in front of a computer screen). Believe me, I love doing this, and if I could upload every day, I would. Right now though, I'm committed to uploading every fortnight. Oh and I definitely plan to do more Mistborn and Stormlight. In fact, my 11th vid (the one after the one I'm working on now) will be a Stormlight vid which I'm very excited about!

There will be, eventually. Pat just isn't a full-time author, despite having the resources to do it. He runs a charity called World Builders, that's raised over $1,000,000. He writes and runs his charity off and on, the charity I guess in between drafts of Book 3.

If your theory is correct and Devi both is the demon and wants to get into the Archive, then it is reasonable to assume that Auri is the angel. She already has been floated (perhaps literally) as such for numerous reasons; in particular, Kvothe killing her would be absolutely tragic. Anyway, if Devi gains access to the Archive via the Underthing and this somehow upsets Auri, then Kvothe being caught in the middle of it is quite possible.

The anger of a gentle man can also refer to a member of the gentry. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gentleman The Maer, Ambrose, Bredon and Count Threpe would be my main candidates.

Im not trying to be a dick, but I love how people still think there will be a third book. I want nothing more than the conclusion of this story, but we need to be realistic. It's been nine years, and Rothfuss is too busy playing video games. so I'll just end it now. Dena is the 8th Chandrian, Puppet and Lorren are both Amyr, so is Bredon, who is also Dena's patron(yes, I am aware of that contradiction.) Kvothe is a Lackless and he kills Ambrose. Bast is the child of Kvothe and Felurian, who also has another child name Auri, who's father is Elodin, which is why he is cracked... Jax/Iax is imprisoned beyond the four plate door, and by opening it begins round two of the same old war. Kvothe has changed his true name to Kote and has locked Kvothe in the thrice locked chest thus rendering himself impotent.

I think Ambrose becomes king. Kvothe will kill his father or the Maer and that's why he dreads who the new king is so much. One of those Kvothe ruins everything plots. I'm glad other people think Denna is one of them. Her image is on the vase. She actively uses ancient magic with her hair braid.

Love your vid but i think that Devi being the demon is a red herring. A better question to ask is if Devi isn't the Demon then who is :). I think Rothfuss has put a lot of false ideas and clues in his books which allows him to hide the truth in plain sight while still keeping the reader guessing. I think a lot of this comes down to the picture the girl drew of the Chandrian.

I've been wondering that as well. I was thinking he returns to the fae realm to see Fleurian but also to talk with the Ctvaeh. He tricks the Ctveah, the demon, into giving him his hearts desire which is either information about the where to find the Chandrin or something to do with Denna. While in the fae realm he also seeks information about the creation wars while there he meets Bast. Bast helps him leave the fae world and goes with him into the mortal world.

I wonder why bast is seeking teaching from kvothe in particular. They don't appear to be studying sympathy, the fae have their own naming lore, and simple sciences could surely be taught to bast by others.

Great video and analysis. But I do think your Lorren theory is not is wrong. Lorren is, in many regards, the opposite of "gentle" people are afraid of him because he's stern and stoic. Rarely showing any emotion or "gentleness" No... A gentle person is Fela or Laurian, not Lorren

Or Simmon, who might would be enraged if Fela were harmed by Kvothe’s risky behaviour. That said, I strongly suspect Lorren is an Amyr, his presence is constantly juxtaposed with thoughts and discussion of the Amyr and at one point he even takes the classic pose of palm out, grim face.

I think my biggest annoyance with the books aside from it being very slow at times, was 1. Ademre and their idea of childbirth.. and belief that fathers don't exist. This is just dumb. No matter how you try to argue or explain it, it makes no sense for.an entire people to not understand how children are born..even if they are blinded by their culture. Don't they have animals? Don't they plant crops? 2. Felurian and Kvothe becoming a sex God. I actually liked that he sucked with women despite being socially capable. That he didn't dare make a move on Denna because he was terrified of scaring her off and or ruining it. And thought she was so special he's ready to wait for the rest of his life. And obviously felurian had to happen, it's one of the first things mentioned when you start book 1. But it dragged on too long. It's good that he gained some confidence but he immediately starts smashing.anythjng with a pulse. 3. You know what makes less sense than Denna disappearing every time? That she is with another spoiled, controlling rich man and its implied she never puts out. She's a virgin and the men she's with, men like Ambrose, don't mind that this commoner woman is playing them and not giving anything in return. That is a recipe for disaster. The one blade she carries won't save her. Also she is this fragile butterfly that turns into mist if you touch it. Who no man can lock down. Who will not be leashed by anyone. Except the old dude beating her. The cthae claims she thinks she deserves the beating. That she doesn't deserve better than Ash.which makes no sense with everything else we know of her. So you'd think there is an anterior motive or reason. But the Cthae don't lie, he twists things vut doesn't lie. So.no matter what Danny thinks she doesn't deserve any better, has stockholm syndrome and is one of those housewives that is constantly beaten by their husband but will defend him and say "he hits me because he loves me so much!!" The girl who swindles and ghosts any rich bachelor she can find. The girl who had a million suitors. Also buut she a virgin though right? LoL she'll let Ash beat her. But.she won't let ambrose and the like touch her? Can you imagine how someone like Ambrose would treat Denna if he got her stuck in a corner and she refuses to put out?

Devi is no demon. She attended the uni ffs. Also there are no demons. Only fae and you'd think a fae wouldn't need human books or help for knowledge. But then again we have Bast who is following his Reshi along as an apprentice. Ps I really dislike "Reshi" because more than anything it sounds like a pet name for a lover or something. Also, daddy, mommy, sweety, cutey, baby. The i at the end makes reshi sound too ... idk. Like Bast is a little girl talking to her dad. Or a woman talking to her man. It sounds patronizing and childish at the same time. Just that one letter. If he called him Resha, Reshar, Roshu, Reshu, Roshe, Rashu or any other similar sounding term / made up word it wouldn't be an issue. But the word reshi still makes me cringe.

Have you tried practicing your pronunciation of the word "Kvothe"? It's Kvothe with a "v" sound, not Kwothe. I love your videos but cringe every time you say his name!
