@@fedos Wow! My biggest heartbreak was because my best friend that I met in 8th grade has become my partner, and the Bay or Bae choice killed. Chloe insisting that she couldn't deal if she was saved when everyone else in town died sounded just like what my partner would say and really mean, like she'd leave me if I ignored her on something like that. So I chose Bay and just broke down for hours afterwards. Later on when I told her about what the choice was and how much Chloe was like her, she said I'd better have saved the town or she'd be pissed at me, and all I could do was cuddle her and laugh at how well we know each other.

It’s a breath of fresh air to watch your reaction as someone who hasn’t played the video game. And yes!! The actress who played Sarah, did the game justice. Just as heartbreaking as in the game, when she dies. It seems like they are being true to the feel and story of the game. The only changes being the jump scares. This makes sense, so that people who played the game, won’t know when to expect jump scares that were in the game.

Love to watch someone’s reaction that hasn’t played the game and has no clue about the story. Enjoy the ride. I can assure you, this first episode is very close to the game. Yes, Sarah’s death was in the game like this. We, the players, knew her for 15 minutes, found her adorable, and got our heart ripped out. The wild thing is, in the video game, you actually spend a lot of that prologue section playing AS Sarah: she's the character you inhabit and control, throughout most of that night of chaos and bloodshed. So when she's gunned down and bleeds out, it's every bit as heartbreaking and gut-punching as it was here.

Yea, I feel like the black cut after the death scene should've been about 3 seconds longer, so that the viewers get a bit more time to "digest" that traumatizing scene before they get face palmed into Boston lol

I actually really love how the FEDRA agent comforts the boy in the red shirt. The test showed he was infected. The way she reassured him that he would be okay, and made him feel comfortable and safe is so amazing to me. His final moments were filled with warmth, security and safety. A nice way to show that good and evil aren’t so black and white anymore. FEDRA are “villains”, but they’re not evil.

im so proud to say that this series was filmed in my home province of alberta canada! i went to see the filming in 3 different locations (edmonton once and calgary twice) and i did my graduation pictures in canmore :) my friends apartment is in the background of episode 2 when tess, jole and elli are walking to the open city while elli asks about the different types of infecteds

A thing about the death scene. When he called for Tommy's help, Tommy'd have seen wounds like that before, having been in the army, he knew there was no way she'd survive. This was probably the first death Joel had ever seen, and it's so interesting to see him and Tommy kind of switch places in the time jump.

She was so lovely." 😭 The game and show (which expanded on Sarah's backstory) did that to ensure you would understand just how much trauma Joel's been walking around with from day 1 of the outbreak. 20 years prior, it had been his birthday, the beginning of the end of civilization (maybe the human species), and he'd lost his incredibly sweet, loving and considerate daughter-- whom he'd been holding in his arms-- to a soldier opening fire on them. Under his placid surface (still shell-shocked), Joel is walking trauma and seething rage, and likely the safest human being, when it came to her, that Ellie could have found herself with.

This was really good and really true to the game so far. You start the game playing as Sarah, so the camera following Sarah around in the first part of the show is true to that. The game's writer/director (Neil Druckmann) also is co-writing/producing/directing the show so he's had a lot of input to make sure the show stays true to the source material. They also have the same composer making the music for the show as well. What makes the game (and the show) so good is that it's not _really_ a "zombie story", it's _really_ a story about relationships and tragedy and broken people trying to not lose their humanity in a backdrop of a disaster. You're in for a wild ride, enjoy! Cheers

The thing i love so much about this show already is how good the zombie explanation is Fungus taking over insects has always been interesting, and the reason of them to evolve due to the earth warming up is so cool.. I watched the show last night with no idea it had anything to do with a game. What a rollercoaster ride! The only thing I knew was it was filmed here in Canada. It was great seeing Bella Ramsey (from GOT) playing Ellie. Can't wait until next weekend when the next episode comes out. Great reaction - I was actually worried about you there for some of it.

This is such a faithful adaptation, when the soldier shot the infected I just started crying. That scene was line for line and shot for shot and it broke my heart all over. We did get more time with Sarah in the show, which was smart. The game starts you with Sarah on the couch when Joel comes home giving him the watch. I think most fans of the game were hoping for that "hardcore drugs" line 😆 a little laugh before we got hurt.

Sorry about my poor english but I will try to explain what I know. BTW I have been watching reactions during the last 3 days and yours it's like a breath of fresh air like someone told below. Well, Troy Baker, the actor behind the performance of Joel's character on the game, had to repeat this Sara's death scene for at least 6 times. Every time he finished, the showrunner and director, Neil Druckmann, raised his voice and said: Not good enough, we have to repeat it. Every time he wants more sentiment on the perfomance and looks for a credible emotional response from the public. Baker was so emotionally exhausted from repeating that scene that he was just about to resign. You just have to imagine every time to act like if your daughter died, crying, putting yourself on the paper... AND with the VR suit with all the sensors for catching his moves for the character development on the game. Then they repeated for the sixth time, or seventh I don't remember so much, and when they cut Neil approaches to him and said: Now! That's the right one! And that's what they included on the game. I watched that on a documentary about the creation of the game with images of that scene being filmed and I could tell you, Troy was overwhelmed totally. So that's the secret of having such an emotional and heartbreaking scene filmed which is capable of making us feel so much. I guess this is what makes a very different and unique this videogame in comparison with any other. It has been a tv series material since they released the game in 2013.

The Last Of Us has the most amazing story I have ever seen in a video game. It is so morally ambiguous, sometimes you don't know how you're supposed to feel. Sarah's death hits you 10 minutes into the game and you're left... like you felt. You can't believe this happened, you don't want to accept, you refuse to accept it. You're hurt, you're numb, you're mad.... you're Joel.... I love that the guy who was involved in making the game is involved in the show. The guy who did music for the game made the music for the show. The voice actors are going to be in it (but not play the main characters, obviously). The actress playing Marlene is the same that did the voice in the game. This is such a SOLID start, I can't wait for the rest. I enjoyed your reaction. I can't wait to see the rest :)

I still remember it was about 1am on May 7th 2013, only about an hour after the original game release when I first saw Sarah die. I just remember being shell shocked and staring at the wall for about 15 minutes. After that I just set the controller down and left Joel standing in the street where you regain control after the time skip and went to bed. I ended up just laying in bed absorbing what I had just played for about an hour before I was able to drift off. Once I got up the next day I binged the rest of the game in 1 sitting. Still one of my all time favorite stories.

So for the beginning, in the game, Sarah does fix her dad’s watch but we don’t see any of it. It just shows her on the couch when Joel comes and they have the interaction of her giving the watch to him and their jokes. Then Joel takes Sarah upstairs and leaves for no given reason but Sarah wakes up and watches the news and sees a crew get blown up in a gas leak. Then Joel comes in the back sliding door and gets his revolver, their neighbor breaks in and Joel is forced to shoot him because he’s infected. Tommy shows up in the truck and while they try to get away they get T-boned by a truck. The rest is the same.

The video game starts in the evening, when Joel comes home from work and Sarah gives him the watch. Everything that came before that is new. But it was a good move. When you start the game, you play as Sarah, and there's a way in which you as a player quickly identify with the character you are controlling. The show didn't have that trick up its sleeve, so pending the time to establish more about her and her relationship to Joel and her uncle produced more or less the same effect in a different medium. From the time the truck crashes and Joel starts carrying Sarah, you play as Joel. So in the second section of the story, we only see the parts of the world that Joel sees as we steer him through this world. Again, the game wisely expands on that--for instance showing Tess's run-in with Robert's men that in the game we only learn about from Tess when she tells Joel, showing us parts of Ellie's story and Marlene's story before Joel meets up with them. Some gameplay segments are compressed or eliminated, and parts of the narrative expanded. But all of it matches the characters as portrayed in the game, And so far, in this first episode, the overall trajectory is the same, and the characters as portrayed match the characters fans have come to know and love. And the theme song and a lot of the score come directly from the game, which viscerally reminds players of their experience in the way music can do.

In the game, one begins by playing as Sarah (the daughter), and so the game player has been enticed by that into identifying with her quite a lot.

As someone who's a MASSIVE fan of the game and watched this episode, it was great to see it again through the eyes of someone who doesn't know what's coming. So refreshing, thank you! Yes, they did the game justice. No, I don't think anyone has, or ever will, get over it. What a brilliant opening. This episode was really well done, in that it was both faithful to the source while still managing to expand on the game in new & interesting ways. ***Here lie spoilers*** My only critic is THAT scene with Sarah before the time jump. I feel like this episode didn't really give the audience time to process it? In the game, after she dies is where the opening credits and title sequence happen, which really gave us a moment to let the heartbreak sink-in and to (kinda) digest it. The show decided to put the title sequence earlier and just jump straight into 20 years later, which I feel undercuts that BIG moment just a little bit...? But, then again, I can see how that may be a deliberate choice: we the audience aren't given time to process it, in the same way that perhaps Joel, in the last two decades, hasn't really processed it either. Effective, but not quite as effective as the game in that respect, I feel.

This is my favorite story of all time (including Part II). The world building is established by the intro alone, showing that this new world is dark, that even a light as bright as Sara’s can be put out and a man as strong as Joel can be broken.

I've played/finished the game 5 or 6 times in the past few years. Sarah's death was always a punch in the gut, but since I became a dad a little over a year ago it hit me 1000 times harder while watching this. I cried my eyes out during that scene. This adaption is incredible, and it's everything that I wanted it to be. Looking forward to watching more of your reactions!

I'm a big fan of The Walking Dead, both the comics and tv show. This reminds me of it. Like TWD, the infected are not the main attraction but a vehicle to carry the plot forward. A threat for sure but like TWD the people left are the real threat. I love this 1st episode. Gritty, dark. Excellent.

I'm glad I found your channel. I was looking for someone who was watching and reacting, but hadn't played the game yet. There are some things that are different, but the show is VERY loyal to the game. Some shots are taken directly out of the game, same as dialogue, their clothing, Ellie's backpack, Ellie's knife, etc. Just so much. The differences were made to make it fit into a tv show and I have no quarrel with any of them. Allowing us to spend more time with Sarah in the beginning. The Adlers. Not having us go on a tutorial murder spree to kill Robert and all of his men. etc. In the game you play as Sarah in the beginning. That makes players sympathize with her and like her (because she becomes a part of you since you played her). The only way to make people attach to her in a similar way on tv is to let people have more time with her, so they extended the amount of time she is on the show. I think it was effective. Her death (esp with her's and Pedro's acting) was very impactful. Anyway. New subscriber for me. I'll answer any question that is not a spoiler.

Loved the game so much I played it more than a few times, the first episode did the game justice I thought it was incredible and I’m really psyched for the rest of the season!!! The fact that it’s based off a real fungus in the wild is even better

my favorite aspect of this, is that (arguably), Sarah's death isnt even the lowest point, nor the most impactful. Theres a scene from the video game thats very impactful (not necesarily a shocking death or anything), but impactful and emotional nonetheless, and im curious to see how they do scenes like that justice or make new scenes that arent in the video game but give off the same vibes. Cause the number one major difference between the show and the game is without a doubt, the direct interaction you have with the struggles the characters go through, as you literally play as and interact as the main characters, so theyll have to compensate that with something else which im excited to see, because even though some parts were word for word, the creators have changed it enough that even me, who's played the game dozens of times, may not see some things coming, and i like that (as long as its still good lol)

British actress Bella Ramsey (Ellie) best know for playing Lady Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones. "Why have they all got guns?" ...It's Texas. According to an interview, the show writers have included all the main Easter eggs from the game but it does vary in some respects. For example, in the game, when an infected reaches the final stage they release spores when they die, and these float in the air to infect others, making the carrying of gas masks required. For live action filming, gas masks on your actors aren't ideal so spores were replaced with the fungal tendrils coming from the mouth of an infected 'runner' (first stage infected). In the game, also, you are playing as Sarah and see things from het POV, this is duplicated in the show. Depending on where you are bitten, it takes between 5 minutes and 24 hours to become a 'runner' like Nana. Runners are the first stage of infection. Yup, happened in the game too, which made it worse because you play as Sarah right up until the car crash. In the game, Sarah (Miller) is 12 and Ellie (Williams) is 14. The story of Ellie and Riley begins in the comic 'The Last of Us: American Dreams' and in the DLC 'Left Behind' which will be gone through in a later episode. I bought a PS4 just to play The Last of Us 4 years ago. And it’s my favorite game. Then PS5 to play The Last of Us 2 and both don’t disappoint. You’re in for a ride. The story just keeps getting better and better. It’s really dark. But it’s so addicting that while you’re playing you can’t believe what’s going on but you want to get to the end. I heard it’s coming to PC so you can play it if you don’t want to buy a PS. It’s an absolute must play game. Love your reaction going blind into this. Will continue to keep watching your reactions. It's great that you have not played the game, I find it very interesting to look at your perspective. Please keep in mind that the show is incredibly detailed and faithful to the game, it's probably the best video game adaptation in history. While there are a number of scenes that were altered and expanded, there are others (eg: the car driving sequence, the b-day gift) that are shot for shot from the game. It's actually quite refreshing, given how many properties have been completely butchered at this point (like HALO.) Looking forward to seeing it all play out in live action.

Yes my friend from the moment Sarah woke up to the apocalypse that was straight from the game, literally the first part of the game your thrown into it. But I will say what the show does showing the day before makes it hurt more
