In the game, Ellie’s pretty spicy and does have a potty mouth 🌶️😂 The actress has done an amazing job portraying her, imo 😊 So happy how they portrayed the environment, too!! Such an amazing translation from the game.

I love the opening bit with the mycologist. The soldier picks her up and she's scared, we can feel her helplessness. Their body languages reflect it, too, with him looking down at her eating her food and her looking up in confusion and fear. Also with her hunched in the backseat, her purse clutched to her chest protectively, and him in the literal drivers seat and then confidently striding, leading her through the facility (while still looking appropriately unnerved). He asks her to examine the body with a hole in the head and it's the roles we're used to on TV: soldier kills and scientist studies. He's in control up to this point. After she examines the body, his demeanor flips and becomes very pleading and vulnerable as he looks hopefully to her for a solution. The body language is flipped too as she sits straight up, desperately clinging to her composure, and he sits hunched over slightly, in confusion and fear. Then it is her, the scientist, that suggests violence as the solution to the problem. Then we get the shock on the commander's face to seal the scene. The whole segment is directed masterfully and acted so well. It manages to demonstrate the world turning on its head almost overnight within a series of interactions between two people over the course of a few minutes. Well done!

This game is so close to my heart and I love seeing people who haven’t played it get so excited about the show. I was so sad when I completed it and it left such a lasting impression on me. I’m so glad the show is doing it justice. It gets wild so buckle up!

This was another great episode. It had the clickers involved to perfection to where they sound identical to the game. And if the game is anything to go by then this episode was just the beginning of the clickers in the show

The games aren't completely open world like an RPG. But it sort of transitions between more focused linear sets and more wide explorable areas in between them, but you're always pushing forward generally. The sequel experiments much more with larger explorable areas where you have a lot less direction and kind of freely go between locations at your leisure. But again, once the plot sort of moves you to the next area you're pretty much locked off at that point from going back

You mentioned you thought the actress who played Tess was great. Her name is Anna Torv and she's most well known for playing the lead role in Fringe... but you might recognise her as the blonde who slept with John Basilone in The Pacific! xD Loving the show so far! Great for first time viewers and game veterans. They're striking an excellent balance between old and new.

It was nice hearing the same clicker sounds from the game but what really surprised me is that they managed to reproduce their movements to perfection. I literally thought I was the game trying to stealth around.

Part I of TLoU varies from linear to “wide linear” where you have to get to, say, the end of a long city block but you can decide which of like 3-4 paths to take. Part II opens things up much more. It’s still not fully open world but there are quasi-open sections where you can spend 2 hours tackling 10 mini objectives in a big downtown area in whatever order you want. Or, you have to get across this district and the destination is set but you have blocks and blocks to play with.

Having played both games multiple times; I can say this is by far the best adaptation of a video game to a show or movie that has ever been done. Loving everything about it.

25:08 Answer: The definitely had a more stage to stage kinda path. So when you go through a door and are outside sure theres alot of room to go around and search and explore but there will definitely be some sort of blocked road or doorway stopping from getting too far, and as you search u eventually find an access point to the next stage but if u were to skip that direction you will soon learn that all other directions would lead to deadends and may actually find useful items from your investigation of that stage, then once you felt u had searched all that you could that access point to the next stage will still be open and waiting for you, sometime these "Access points" would be doors, windows or obstacles to climb, or crawl under. The stages are EXTREMELY similar to what the background of the show is, especially that Museum. I loved The Last Of Us game, and going into this show, i felt like i was nitpicking AOT and couldnt help myself but so far seeing to episode to, i gotta say i am impressed, even stunned that they havent messed up like pretty much every Movie-Game does. Love your channel btw!

Here is something interesting. The show eludes to flour being a major contaminant for the fungus. Now, folks in Texas would likely not be getting flour from Indonesia, but notice that Joel and Sarah didn't have the flour for pancakes, Joel forgot the birthday cake.... Sarah didn't eat the cookies cuz they were raisin... all foods that have flour in them....

Based on the first two episodes, they've done an incredible job with the show. I've played the first game through a few times and they've easily made the best video game adaptation ever. Pedro Pascal is an amazing Joel, especially considering the show makers told him NOT to play the games. The clicker voice actors from the games returned for the show, and the actress playing Marlene IS Marlene's voice actor! Can't wait for the next episode, and I'll definitely need to play the game again.

The game is linear. There are explorable areas where you can solve them in a variety of ways, but it's not open world. Others have said it, Ellie has the mouth of a sailor. They're being extremely true to the games which makes it easier to do since the director for the games is the same guy directing the show. They've made some tweaks here and there, but so far I've been just fine with every change they've made. I especially love the dive into the outbreak itself. They're doing some more world building with this show and I find that lovely. Glad you're enjoying it!

Great reaction! The runners (recent infected) is the first stage then after some time comes the clickers as the infection splits their head and takes the eyes thus echo location is needed. Just know there are more stages but I won’t spoil what those are. And yes this is very close to the game with some minor changes. BTW, the game is mainly linear with a few open areas to explore. Looks like episode 3 is going to be a great one as this upcoming section is my favorite from the game.

The clickers (that's what they're called) in the museum are blind, they use echolocation to find their target, that's why they make clicking sounds. Clickers are stage 3 of the infected. Stage 2 is called Stalker, those are the one that kissed Tess. Runner is stage 1, these were in ep 1.

The first game is a linear story. You can make choices on how you deal with enemies (stealth or attack), and there’s a certain amount of exploration in closed places, but it moves you from chapter to chapter. The second game is mostly like that, but with larger levels and one fairly large area for exploring.

At first, I thought the Tess's scene was weird, but after seeing it again it made more sense to me, she just let it do it's thing because if she moves or fights back, it will go into kill mode and she has to be in control as long as possible, to make that lighter work and her mouth is the easiest way to soft tissue, so that's how I see it

Loved your insights as someone who have not watched the show. I'm always so distracted, my mind is automatically comparing the game to the show since I'm familiar with it already, but hearing your insights give me fresh ones too, especially in the scene where Joel pulled his hand away from Ellie, when he tried to help her at the hotel. And to answer your question no, unfortunately, the game is not an open world. The path is always guiding you to where you have to go. However, the path is often quite wide and you can and most of the time should explore deeper it in order to find loot such as ammo.

Haha, oh yeah, in the game Ellie has a potty mouth too. And the same goofy/sassy sense of humor. Honestly, the only difference in her character thus far is that she's a little bit nicer and more innocent-seeming when we first meet her in the game.

I haven't played the games either but I've been advised to hold off on playing the first game until after season one ends. Same for the second game and season 2. The first game is getting a pc release in March so that's perfect timing for me

Great episode I loved it!! Some major differences from the game that were actually great like the fibers alerting other infected a mile away wasn’t in the game but that’s an awesome addition!!! Also it was Fedra that killed Tess not infected everything else was pretty on point with the game but all together the series is incredible

I've seen a reactor that was like "I will not like this TV show adaptation, prove me wrong" and while he was watching the first episode, he would quote at the same time as the characters, showing he KNOWS his game.. and by the end of the episode, he was in love AND STOP SAYING YOU HOPE NOTHING HAPPENS TO CHARACTERS!!! LAST WEEK IT WAS SARAH, NOW TESS, YOU KILL MORE PEOPLE THAN THE FUNGUS!

I own and have played and finished both games but I'm not bouncing back and forth now. I think I'll finish the show, the play the PS 5 upgrade if part 1. Insofar as the accuracy of the show, it's very accurate. Generally they keep the same plot points, but may tweak some details. I.e. in the first episode the plane doesn't smash the car, it's another car. They need to make small changes A. To flesh it out for TV, and keep it a bit fresh. I don't get the trolls who want a copy/paste version. Just go play the game then. This has been fantastic.

When you get around to playing the game I recommend choosing the new Remake instead of the Remaster. Naughty Dog improved the visuals considerably and refined the gameplay. Will you be putting your playthrough on YouYube?

This story is really a doozie, They obviously changed some things, but its not in any lore-breaking way. everything is sorta where it should be and in my opinion while Tess speaks less in this series than in the game, her death in this show was a lot more badass. I wont spoil anything, there's no fun in that, but i will say, you're going to enjoy the rest. Every single episode should be better than the last, and has already been thus far. I might even say its better than the game, and i LOVED the game
