Everyone kind of surprised they got in bed the same day but I'm like: It's the apocalypse, if you meet a hottie and wine and dine, I'm not wasting any time. Absolute beautiful love story jeez my heart... Glad we got both this and the story in the game, best of both worlds.

The thing you missed, when you kept saying it was too fast for Bill and it’s only been four years, is that he has been hiding his sexuality his whole life and never had that love or companionship. Also, when he poured the wine for Frank during their first meal, Bill said: I know I don’t seem like that kind of guy” and Frank said: “Yes you do”, it was not said, but that’s when they both had the understanding they were both gay. You also see, that Frank was so moved by Bill’s playing the piano and singing of that particular song, that he was crying when he kissed Bill. Lastly, it’s the apocalypse, tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, so no, it wasn’t fast. I mean, straight men will screw a chick in the bathroom of a bar. Lol

In older houses, especially ones built in the country if you have the windows open it'll create a draft and mess with your doors. That's why the door to the bedroom closed when the front door did. It was a brilliant stylistic choice, knowing that Bill and Frank are dead inside there, it was almost as if it were Bill and Frank saying, "No, Joel. You don't want to see this." Fucking BRILLIANT. I could write a paper on this episode alone.

I love the subtle detail of the Bill and Joel lunch scene where you might not notice that Joel spends the entire scene with one hand under the table, whilst he eats and talks. Would Joel allow Bill to be the only one armed during their meeting. Nope.
@annemoore3590
@annemoore3590 Год назад
His hand doesn't have a gun, though. You can see it clearly in one of the shots: open, relaxed and empty. My grandma ate like that, she cut up all her food first, then put down the knife, transferred the fork to her dominant hand, with the other under the table on her lap. I think it's just how some people eat.

Eh....he has his arms up on the table in all the other shots, as well as Tess and Frank having one arm under the table. Could easily be posing for the camera, or Southern manners. Plus he wears his gun on his right hip, but was eating with his right hand...soooooo....

I didn't realize until my third watch... bill was drawing fire away from the house. If he stayed and shot the from the windows the raiders would return fire on the house. And bill couldn't be sure frank wouldn't get hit with a stray meant for him in his safe shooting position. So he tried to get as far away from the house as he could before presenting himself at an angle where bullets wouldn't hit the house. It's like a father running into the street so the bullets won't go into the house where hos kids are sleeping even if 8t means he dies in the process. Jesus christ what a man. First time I saw it I said the same thing,like jeez man a least lie prine and snipe. I thought it was so out of character at first. I live him more each time I watch this episode

I keep thinking about this episode and finding new details. Bill didn't want Frank to invite anyone over. However, Bill asked Frank to call Joel after he got shot by the raiders. In the game Joel tells Ellie that Bill owes him a favor. I am guessing that he is referring to bringing medical supplies and helping him after he got shot. Notice also how Bill tells Frank "What if someone shows up who can help?" when Frank tells him it will be his last day. Bill becomes the guy who wants to get outside help.

It’s not what happened in the canon game. But I honestly enjoyed this more. This may be one of the most beautiful episodes of television I think I’ve seen in maybe the last 5-7 years if not something for my own person list of greatest hits. It’s not what happened in the game but the thing is, this isn’t the game, it’s a television adaption which means you should expect changes. The reason why most adaptions of games sucks because most changes made are stupid or feel extremely unnecessary and make for a worse story or cheapen the source material of the og. This episode did none of those things. They changed what they did in ways that worked and honestly made the story better. I’m so impressed, I’m so happy on-- multiple levels, not just as someone who played and loved the game for what it was but as someone who specifically relates to aspects of what they chose to change. I don’t know what to say other than this was beautiful. I know not everyone is going to be happy because that’s just human nature and you cannot please everyone. But I don’t think anyone can deny if you’re capable of divorcing the game from the show and enjoying both for what they are, there is no denying hbo did something gorgeous and BRAVE in more ways than one with this episode.

Yo, about the speed of the hook-up debate... First of all, LOVED it!! I think the answer is contained in a rewatch of the piano scene. At least in understanding Frank. Watch him. He can't believe what he's seeing. And hearing. He really does kind of fall in love. As for Bill, yeah. It's a little harder to swallow -- if you'll pardon the expression -- but with Bill, it's not that it's been 4 years... it's been never. The one thing they couldn't show us, though... REALLY... they did what they could... but there had to be an ENERGY in that room! Y'all know it! You've felt it -- it's kinda popping off. It's something you can FEEL. Anyway. Well done, guys.

In the game Bill and Frank have a falling out. I’d say this is true to how the characters would have acted. 🤟 i get where yall are coming from where its super quick for Bill to warm up to Frank but if you think about it sounds stupid that he gained trust after the piano scene, but nobody coming to kill you would ever sit down with their back turned to the target and sing a love song. It's not even something that someone would think to do as a ploy. In terms of the quickness it absolutely makes sense. Yeah at first i absolutely wouldn't have trusted Frank with all the raiders and all that are out there, but once he realized he was kind and wasn't a threat he had gone through about 4-5 years without seeing or even hearing of anyone still being alive. It's one thing to be alone and hear stuff on the news or talk to people on the phone. if he would've passed on the interaction with Frank he would've lived the entire 20+ years of the Apocalypse alone... Frank was the one that reached out to tess and Joel for him. He would have lived his life as if he was the only person on the planet other than killing feral raiders

The change from the game is great. The game ultimately will have a lot of fat one can omit because the game is structured in a way to give the player something to do. This episode keeps the outline but the details are devoted to character enrichment instead of first person shooting. In both, Ellie and Jo Elle go to see Bill to get a battery and a truck. The other things we knew about Bill from the game are present in the show.

@Core4VT Reacts, 27:59 Craig Mazin said that they didn't decide on which decease Bill was suffering from, but did confirm that they narrowed it down to two: MS and ASL ='( 28:07 I disagree. They were both in their 50s when they met 16 years ago. They're pushing 70 now and Bill looks great for 70. Frank is suffering from MS or ASL during the apocalypse and is living a life healthy people would trade in a heartbeat! The only thing he had to fear was a one night attack from a group of raiders that immediately regretted walking up on Bill's town. His traps beat them so badly, that they never came back--you know he left their burnt corpses out there as a warning for others who thought of doing the same thing down the road. And I cannot stress again that these two lived a relatively normal life never having to worry about where or when they'd be able to sleep well again or when they'd have their next full meal. They've always had that, well, Bill has had that none stop since 2003, and Frank has had that for the last 16 years straight! And though Frank has an incurable decease he was able to live in comfort that was as good as he could have had before infected minus medical care--that's f'ing fantastic! These men lived like kings, never really knowing hardship because Bill was that guy, an everyman. The one thing Bill couldn't do was cure a decease but I bet if he had medical book he would have taught himself how, lol. Bill served meals worthy of 3 Michelin stars, repaired mechanical devices, built traps, kept his town running (for 20 freaking years), maintained his home, repaired his monitors and TVs (for 20 years), and this man NEVER got jumped while going out on runs to pick up more supplies--this man built a freaking fence around his town, fortified it and rigged it with wiring to protect himself from people coming from any direction, and just because he doesn't half ass defenses he put blow torches around the fences as well, and we saw how effective that all was--raiders got torched and shocked in the same breath (what a way to go!). Bill was not a man to f' with and raiders knew. Boss! This story was different from the game, but I approve. This was a much better story. It shows us how good Bill was at what he did, but also that he, along with Tess, put Joel on the path that he'll eventually take =) EDIT: 43:59 I think you should watch their first date again, Bill was totally courting Frank. Bill could have just made Frank a sandwich, but that's not what he did. Bill broke out the fine china and silverware and served this man up a 3 Star Michelin meal--who does that?! Bill didn't stop there, he gave this man fine wine, and before that he let the man shower (which he didn't have to do) and gave him brand new clothes! Did you see Bill brush his hair back after sitting down at the table? Frank did, lol. Frank was already thinking about staying, and feeling pretty comfortable after all the hospitality Bill had given him. Offering to play the song was his way of delaying his exit, and to his surprise, Bill's mother made Bill learn to play the piano well and sing, lol. Frank might have chose the song, but Bill brought the house down. Frank already knew who he was and was comfortable with who he was. Bill was a survivalist because he had to hide who he was in a world that wasn't very accepting of gay men. Bill didn't know that that's who he was, but he knew that women wasn't for him after trying it out once. His mother likely died a sad women, and Bill grew up feeling miserable and untrusting--and that prepared him for what happened on 8/24/03. Frank helped Bill find himself, and best of all he helped Bill actually live because all he was ever doing until he met Frank was surviving. And THAT'S why I think Bill went out with Frank. Without Frank, Bill would have reverted to the man he once was, and he didn't want to go back to that because that wasn't living. As I said before the edit, these two men got to live a life during the apocalypse isolated from the problems everyone else in the world was living with--they lived inside a timeless bubble that stopped on the year 2003, living a life of comfort until they ended themselves on their terms.

The pills had to have come from Tess and Joel. The pills in the town pharmacy would have been too old. I do wonder if, from the earlier episode, where Joel got the oxy. Maybe from Bill before they got old?

Bill was definitely Gay in the game. Remember Ellie found his gay porn stash and then threw it out of the truck? I'm glad they gave him more growth in the TV version as the game version was too stuck in his ways and his fate is left unclear. At least this way he gets an ending worthy of rememberance

Loved the reaction but when it comes to the speed they got together like they did you have to look at it within the context of the show. These are two gay men (or a gay and bi man if Bill was not lying about doing it once with a girl) who had no one to share affection with since the outbreak or even longer. This outbreak happened in 2003 and the world was more homophobic than it is today and a lot of the ideas from then probably stuck around. They had chemistry, Bill was shy and bashful during their dinner and frank picked up on it. Frank then asked "who was the girl is" to confirm if he was right. Bill confirmed it and with that they kiss after Frank says "I know" I mean I'm gay myself so maybe I pick up on things like that more but yeah lol.

ngl I cried a lot during this episode... idk there was just something so vulnerable and grief-inducing about being lonely, touch-starved and queer. The tension was touching on being exposed, both physically and mentally, and the frailty of treading through your own queerness, especially if you aren't out or fully accepting of/familiar with your own sexuality (like Bill). I loved that we got to explore softer, non-toxic masculinity and an older gay couple... idek it just felt so wow

Imo they knew they had to do this. They were both becoming old asf, Frank had already lost control of his limbs, Bill was older and was shot in the torso, despite still being able to walk. If they lived a few more years, who'se to say raiders or infected wont be able to get in? They're older and slower, wont be able to defend themselves and die a terrible death. They chose their end, happy, safe and satisified.
@rumbledumpthumpershaker6735
Nothing like the game other than they got a car and Bill and Frank existed and were probably gay. Bill existed in the game as a warning to what Joel could become if he didn't change, Ellie started learning to survive and got the bow, no bloater, and no action because a Lifetime channel story is cheap to make. Frank probably is supposed to have Parkinson's because Linda Ronstadt really has it.

When you think about it, time stopped in the early 2000s. How many "out" gay ppl would they have really come across? I don't blame them for grabbing onto that opportunity while it's available lol

In regards to the comment about Bill trusting him so fast…you have to understand that Bill was lonely & vulnerable. He clearly had attraction towards frank & he was craving affection deep down. Plus men sleeping with other men the same day that they meet is very very normal in the gay world lol.
