As well all know by now (or at least we hope), balance holes will be banned as of August 1st, 2020. There is a USBC legal way to increase the drilled differential of a bowling ball without using a balance hole. In this excerpt from Mo's latest seminar, he discusses the how to do it the correct and compliant way.

Note: Do the reverse for Full Rollers. Drill the Thumb shallow and the fingers deep, 4" for max differential increase.

Is it legal to drill a quarter inch wide hole to 3.75 inches deep within a 1 inch wide hole 1.5 inch deep to remove mass to stabilize the axis for a thumbless bowler? To both finger holes?

If I wanted a ball with more differential why wouldn't I just buy a ball with what I want rather than buying a weaker ball and using a deeper thumb hole to get there?

Balance holes increase differential. Balance holes are eliminated next year. Deep thumb recovers some of the lost differential. No one said buy weaker equipment.

in all honesty static weight in a ball doesn't make a significant change. Balance holes were always a tool to fine tune. Comes back to layout & ball surface. Has been the case since the days of the "soaker".
