@@Machete87 your comment is plain and simple racist. When the director heard Hallie sang he associates her voice to the one on the little mermaid. Race was not a problem for him because mermaids are not real. Do you get it? They can be any color.
No no, this is Cultural Colonization. They are taking it aggressively, telling you "To bad deal with it." and forcing changes they think are for the best. Also they hate the Colonizer word too so it just sticks it to them even harder.
People aren't racist for hating her playing little mermaid, they are racist for taking beloved white character and replacing with black one. Disrespecting other nation's culture and history.
@@bobbyhands7589 watch the original. You won’t regret it and you’ll see how bad the live action one is compared to it. Or how bad it is just in general
Are you referring to the true original that was written in Denmark in the 1800s where the mermaid dies at the end? Or the Disney remake with the redhead?
I always thought: "Why would Disney need to change a white princess to black if they already have a "woke" black princess: She's a hard worker, and saved all her money to achieve a goal she wanted, the only reason she was denied was due to discrimination bs. And in the end, everything paid off, (literally) and she got everything she wanted through hard work: No fairy Godmother, not even a prince's money, it was her working two jobs. But NOPE, Disney ignores Tiana because "no money".
She was dealt a hand where she was poor, but rich in family and love. She had a lot of challenges but still remained optimistic even in times in New Orleans when she was genuinely oppressed. She busted her ass, and those pastries looked fire. She was level headed even when she turned into a frog and was the voice of logic, but Naveen taught her to stop and smell the roses. It’s one of the most underrated Disney films of all time, Dr Facilier was badass too friends on the other side was amazing!

Many people complained about the MC being black in this one, being called racist by others. Thing is, the problem isn't that she's black. The problem is that the character in the original isn't. They changed it for the sake of changing it. That's the problem.
thanks for regurgitating what the video you just watched said, but youre wrong. the problem IS that shes black. because theres 0 reason to race swap her character. literally none. even in the sense of "diversity" and all that bullshit you shouldnt need a pre existing character to change her skin color to feel included. that means you are extremely weak and fragile and should not be making your own choices in life. people with even the slightest bit of IQ can relate to characters based on traits regardless of skin color, and if you cannot see past color of skin then YOU are the racist bigot. you dont strike someone and then cry when they hit you. same way you dont call people racist after changing a pre existing characters skin color for 0 reason or relevance to the plot whatsoever. people have a right to criticize dumb choices that are irrelevant to the plot that only serve to push an agenda.
And delusional idiots like Ani Mat/ElectricDragon505 defend the race-swapping decision because we're racists and we need to know are place and shut up. Just like Modern Disney.
The thing I hate most about this movie is the finale, because in the original Eric is a sailor and knows how pilot a ship, so by using the current he was able to drive the boat wreck into Ursula killing her. But now SUDDENLY it is Ariel, a mermaid with no prior experience to piloting a ship with her fish lower body is at the helm, with no proper method of holding her ground to shift her weight. Also it messes up the movie entirely, Ariel in the beginning saves Eric and in the finale Eric saves Ariel, it shows that they can rely on each other but noooooooooo.
@@bornrich9264 Are you a dummy In the original Disney, Ariel saved Eric, who saved her in turn. Ariel don't need Eric Eric don't need Ariel But they both need each other
She doesn't even steer the ship - she grabs the helm (which is surprisingly steady in such choppy waters) and turns it in one direction before flopping to the deck. The ship literally guides itself into Ursula's gut (who, despite seeing it's approach, does nothing to stop it). I.e. - Ariel didn't save Eric - it was a combination of dumb luck and slow reflexes that resulted in Ursula's death.
@@dadrising6464 Except "Princess and the Frog" is also based on white princess tale. They just took it out of Middle Ages Europe and placed it in 20th century America so the race change would make logistic sense. But, in this Little Mermaid, it doesn't make sense for there to be black royalty in this setting, when they were still enslaved back then. They took Little Mermaid and gave it the "Bridgerton".
The conclusion that Triton must be a serial killer is hilarious. Making small changes in an already existing story without thinking about the consequences is a beautiful thing.
tbh i don't blame her but the people who casted her , sh's not even a real actress but they yhought they were smart casting her just because she was a singer . thy should hav casted a different actress and used Halle's voice for the soundtrack, problem solved , this would still serve her musical career without humiliating her to the world .
I would like to say though, Ursula WAS originally written to be Tritons sister and they added this in the Broadway musical (which seriously they should have just adapted instead). The reason Ursula isn't a mermaid from what I recall is her dabbling in dark magic on top of being banished for eating the palace citizens and craving the power of the triton, which was given to her brother on their fathers deathbed while she got his magic shell. Honestly, this change would probably seem LESS stupid if they just added the song of Ursula singing "I want the good times back".
Yes but they ditched the idea so it is not canon. I think it was a good solution and cannot see why the hell they wanted to keep that now. It doesn’t make any sense to ”add” it to canon now. And it doesn’t really work like that.
@@flav2689 I'm glad they ditched that idea. Ursula doing those horrid things to her own niece and brother, would make her even more creepy and loathsome than she already is.
Kind of ruins immersion as a marine biologist when we are supposedly in the Caribbean and I see all Pacific fish, guppies in the ocean, moray eels give off electricity, a Arctic Gannet as the seagull, a obligate land crab as the one begging Ariel to live under the sea, and a soulless damslefish representing Flounder, who was grouper sized.
True, they fake represent and actually make afro culture seem not good enough and undeserved to bring it to the big screen. Race swapping it's racist by itself, but diminishing men and making women feel even more shame for showing emotions and affection, only makes it even more disturbing.
He had the one wife who bore him seven daughters. The audience is expected to believe they all come from the same two parents (someone told me a few days ago that the daughters took on the ethnicity of the ocean they were born in - because that's how fish/merfolk biology works, apparently).
"durr that's why is cgi! You say that the cgi Is uncanny? Do you want them to drown? 🤪" Seriusly, Disney simps who wants to defend this movie so bad are embarassing...
Ariel in 1989: - A strong willed and independent young princess with a deep interest in the surface world, with a strong personality, able to argue with her father, Triton to defend her passions. A young woman who is always curious and inquisitive mermaid who loves to explore and collect items from the surface world; she saves a human from a burning ship wreck, which only deepens her admiration for the world above the waves. Her actions during the storm kick start the chain of events that not only brings her together with her one true love, but also winds up resulting in Eric defeating Ursula, meaning that Triton has finally begun to see that some humans can be trusted; after all, one of them just saved his daughter's life. It's this plotline that makes Triton able to let his little girl go, and let her make her own path in life. Ariel in 2023: - Flavourless milk carton.

I hardly need to mention that the voice acting and the story of the original was moving, and perfect. This bad remake can’t compete with the ending of the original.

YES. Especially the part about Black European royalty. And so many people can't see how ridiculous it is. While they are rewriting history. It's bizar.
In Netflix with "Queen Charlotte" alot of people think now the real Queen Charlotte was a black woman from Germany, nothing but propaganda is scary how they want to rewrite white people history
It's a fucking fairy tale bitch. Who gives a fuck. Why the fuck would you care about royalty in the real world? What kind of a loser are you to be a whiner?
Oh my goodness, never mind the story, the CGI is awful. Whoever said that it was not bad once you got used to it, they lied. My head is hurting just from seeing Ariel's hair changing texture completely when it's under water and above water. My brain is hurting.
What's funny is that I found people defending the CGI effects by saying "oh, were they supposed to make the movie underwater where they can't breathe? 🤪". No you imbecils, we expected a much better CGI effects for a Disney movie made in 2023
My conspiracy theory: Disney isn’t doing these remakes as a cash grab, they’re using it to claim continued usage of the characters to extend the copyright and prevent them from becoming public domain.
You're so much better at this than the Americans. I will never understand why Disney has decided to shy away from any sort of romance. It seems counter-intuitive. The age difference between Ariel & the adopted prince seems massive. The guy looks ancient for an unmarried prince, while Ariel looks like a little kid. In the cartoon they made the sisters less attractive than Ariel. In this version they did the opposite. The pink-haired babe is gorgeous.
Your Triton theory scared me shitless, like wow. That's pretty fucked up when you think about this, but at the same time this is the most logical answer to Triton's multi ethnical daughters and their "killed by humans" mothers.
The logical answer would have been to say they're all adopted (like how Eric was adopted by the queen). But for whatever stupid reason, the audience is expected to believe that all the sisters are related by blood.
Also very accurate to actual Greek mythology most of the men of Olympus including Neptune/triton(let's face it triton is Neptune) are pretty much manhoes Edit apparently triton is the son of Poseidon and grand son of Neptune like father like son I guess 😂😂
@@Boomslayer19 he’s not though that’s insulting to Greek mythos. Triton was a minor Greek god. Son of Poseidon but there aren’t many stories about him sleeping around but whatever.
The fact that they gave a different version of Ariel’s sisters a different name but not Ariel herself is next to sad. And the dark-tanned version of a mermaid is not Ariel, that is Muriel.
10:04 i find it funny when king triton says “they got what they deserved” as if it’s not hypocritical! He’s upset because of the shipwreck, but says they deserved it? how does that make any sense! god the writing is so unbelievably bad I can’t stop laughing!
one more little error: in the shipwreak scene, a bunch of fish swim by ariel. those are guppies, that, while having tolerance to saltwater, can absolutely not survive in it. The writers didnt even bother to research the fish
The fact that Melissa "Ghostbusters 2016" is considered the best part of this garbage, pretty much says it all. Even the human form of Ursula looks better than Hale Baley
Ursula in the animated movie was designed to resemble "Divine", who was also planned to voice her, but he died before that could happen.. What I'm saying is, Melissa McCarthy is perfect for the role 🤣
It was always going to be this movie that awoke the reaper from his slumber. I also like how they made Eric adopted, literally just to make his royalty parents black.
But now he's not a "real" prince either. As soon as the queen or next inline relative has a legitimate child he's out on his ass. Maybe he can be kept on as an advisor or bodyguard or something. but they'd probably just kill him as a threat to the legitimate heir.
Honestly, I would be more sympathetic towards the leading female actress but after how she tried to act as if the live action is immensely superior to the animated one and how she only nitpicks the bad parts about the animated version to fit her narrative, then proceed to act as if the world is racist and out to get her while milking the sh t out of the fact that she got casted as Ariel with all those lame and boring photoshoot. So really, at this point, I can't give a f about all the backlash she is getting and how she's the lead in a movie that's undoubtedly going to flop harder than a fish out of water. She brought this on herself and I'll be happy if this is going to be the end of her career. Good riddance.
@@3li.mp339 her career as a leading actress of a movie that isn't going to break even, has horrible rating, practically rejected by the majority of the people outside of woke America, and you say that she's thriving? Okay, must be fun living in la la land simp
Another concept that was not acknowledged but would explain why Triton's daughters not looking like him. Ariel is considered the youngest and therefore their mother screwing every merman in the ocean and cucking Triton.
That would be funny lol. Supposedly the reason Disney gives is each daughter represents a different ocean so that’s why they all look different but that literally makes zero sense and I literally can’t with Disney anymore 😭💀

10:14 I couldn't help but notice that those particular fish in front of Ariel are guppies which aren't even salt water fish. Edit: I also want to mantion that in the original film, scuttle was a seagull while in this movie, she's a Gannett which is aren't even related to seagulls whatsoever. They didn't just gender swap scuttle, they also changed the type of species he is. They might as well have made an entirely new character.

You don't need to put on your tin foil hat, because the backstory is dumber. All Ariel's sisters are from the same mother. The actor confirmed something like "When they had a daughter, the essence of the ocean transfered to the "fish" ", so that's why they are like this, which is dumb because that's not how biology works lmao
It’s also jarring that in comparison towards the animated film and the live action scenes with the collection room. Here in the live action, they just have the father just snap and destroy the shit, that and it didn’t even have the statue? Like bruh. The thing about awkwafina is that she proved she could be a good (and more importantly serious) actress in The Farewell. After watching The Farewell I think she just has a really bad agent when it comes to films she's put in, or she's just trying to get rich quick with her act, because she's proved that she can be a good actress.
I also thought her performance in "Jumanji The Next Level" was a decent comedic performance. She didn't feel as annoying and over-the-top in that, and did a pretty good Danny DeVito impression.

Yeh, The Little Mermaid animation is brilliant. It's actually one of my faves. Disneys early stuff are brilliant. When they released the first live action remake is when I stated to notice Disney's standards for animation was lowering. I think this is because they started to hire based on whats between peoples legs and what shade of skin they have.
These remakes are a sign of a creatively bankrupt company. I remember when the live action Beauty and the Beast came out, and I thought it was a stupid idea. (I later watched it on Netflix, and it was pretty bad.) Then they announced the next project, and I realized this was going to be a pattern. It was then I swore I wouldn't give them my money and reward them for abject laziness. There's a reason animation exists - the creators get to show stuff that won't work in live action such as expressiveness in animals. Some animation is just not going to translate well to live action. I remember when Disney used to produce wonderful new movies. Seems like a lifetime ago.
