@@dailyraptor7700 Dishonored, like the Batman Arkham series, Assassin's Creed and interestingly Breath of the Wild is all about verticality. You gain a huge advantage by climbing up high, both in terms what you can see, not being seen, navigation and opening up options. Therefore that was the first thing I did on this level, I didn't find out about the 'usual' route till many playthroughs later when I purposefully broke out of my up top and behind the scenes 'route' and found out just how wonderful and varied this level is. This documentary made me realize that developers not only make a game to make a game. They are essentially building a portfolio: can we make a level that's able to transform completely? Yes, cool. Can we make a hub that can be summoned to any point in the level? Yes, we can. It really makes you think about it as a long term progress for a studio rather than long term progress for a specific game....in short, another AMAZING doc guys!

I wish we could hear them discuss more of their design philosophy when it specifically comes to making the geometry of the maps. Something I'm always really impressed by is how the basic blocking of their levels always feels so natural while simultaneously seeming very deliberate. I want to know how they choose which buildings to make enterable, where to put shortcuts. Even the small stuff like how they always seem to have props stacked in just the right way to allow you to climb up to wherever you need to go even if you're playing with no powers.

@@changeling9821 bruh I have 400+ hrs in D1 and 2 and Doto I think I know what makes them great lol, I dont mean turning into AC, Just more open than the previous ones, that way the void house would serve a purpose, Imagine Dishonored and you’re on the run from the authorities in a famine struck Morley I think it would be cool. Just look at what they’re doing with deathloop. Thats the kind of open world I mean
@changeling9821
@changeling9821 3 года назад
@@haraldschjlbergevensen4561 Now that you mentioned Deathloop world, I think I understand what you wanted to say. Not the classic open world; but for example, all of the Dishonored levels existing at the same time and influencing each other.

One of those game series that I think very few people that would absolutely love playing it have yet to play it. I hope this documentary encourages more of those people to take it out of their backlog and go through it.

Makes me want to try Dishonored 2 again, but I generally quit after an hour because some stupid guard sees me through the tiniest gap and eveything goes to shit and the game turns into reload simulator...

@@Texelion3Dprints The first level of D2 can be quite frustrating because you don't have any power. Just try to power through it, maybe reduce the difficulty a bit, and by Mission 2, you can just use Blink or Far Reach to go to higher places in order ro avoid guards.

@@minhnguyenle9864 I remember the last time I played D2, I thought - why the hell not, and declined all of The Outsider's powers, played the entire thing without them. Sneaking around, not killing anyone and not having the powers as a safety net - brought back that Thief intensity and I loved it.

*sigh* Look at the level of thought and intricate detail the developers invested into these projects. This is just amazinh. It's a damn shame that these games didn't sell any better than they did. :(

"The Clockwork Mansion and Crack in The Slab are like two parts of a watch, one concerning itself with the mechanics of the moving hand and the other with time itself." I bet that was really satisfying to put on a page. That's some clever writing, gave me a smile.
