This movie feels like when you’re trying to remember a movie you saw a really long time ago but aren’t sure if it was real. Something about the way it’s shot feels like I’m watching it from way in the back of my brain.

SAME! I watched a ton of MK&A movies as a kid but this was one that I feel like I only watched a couple times and didn’t remember that well… but when I watched this video, the specific shots and lines of dialogue just triggered memories that were locked way in the back of my mind. Like the “need for speed” part and the “make your bed” scene lol. Who knew those were living rent free in my brain all this time.

THE CORN ROWS! You just unlocked a primal memory from grade school where the rich girls would all come back from their break tanned and with cornrows. It created a strict divide between the girls who went on a beach summer vacation and who went to the YMCA program all week because their parents had to work.
@StrongLifeLiz

Woahhh that hits deep. I also remember thinking about that in school (probably bc I was never the beach girl)

Trauma is the file my brain organized that memory under. My mom MADE me get the half corn row hairstyle while on the one vacation we went on and I cried. First off I didn't want it. Secondly it hurt. When it was done I hated it even more than I thought I would. And that's not the worst part - I got fucking lice from getting it done! Ugh. My stomach hurts thinking about it....

As someone older than the girls, these movies fascinate me with how they would sell so well, but were extremely bland. Fun facts I picked up from dabbling in post-FH, early 2000s fandom: The twins shot a full-length movie practically every summer starting from age 6 to 18, which is insane. By the time they got to 12-13, they really didn’t want to spend their summers filming anymore, so they were bribed with “working vacations”, where they set the movie in an exotic location and the girls got to being a few friends from home. The screenwriters kept the scripts simple and non-challenging, the twins just played exaggerated versions of their real selves in every movie. They had so much power when they were young to do things how they felt comfortable, but it sucks they still had to do it. There were so many people making a living off these movies, and the twins were contracted to do them from a very young age.

For real. I just checked wiki and they rarely got any break till they announced their retirement from acting. Starting from Full House, they had either films, series or 'reality' shows coming out every year. And add that to the oversexualizing, creepy and bad treatments with barely any privacy, no wonder they were burnt out and turned off by the whole entertainment industry. It's nice that they've found joy in fashion and designs, and are happy (hope they are, at least) where they are now.

For a long time I fell for the whole "it's only sexual cuz other people make it out to be that way" thing, which does happen, but now that I'm older looking back I'm just so baffled as to WHY they could have been put in these situations. Like tell me then, if not to age these girls up, were they wearing full faces of makeup, dating older men, staying out all night, going to literal clubs, on and on. They get away with it by not only putting the blame on other people for noticing these inappropriate things, but also then making it normalized for young girls like myself to behave like this! A perfectly evil cycle.

The weirdest thing is that there are parents actually like this. I remember my parents getting mad at me and my cousin bc we didn't want my 10 year old sister hanging out at our 16 year old party. After we cleaned the whole house pre-party, they straight up left angrily and left 10-15 teenagers unattended in their house. We cleaned up the house after and then they pretended like it never happened. Shopping was a big deal to them, and was seen an instant band-aid for any traumatizing things they might've said the day before. I was a punk-ass and hated the mall and shopping, but they insisted because I was a girl and I was supposed to like it (and so that I would instantly forgive them for whatever mean thing they said to me about my weight or life choices). I'm pretty sure my parents watched this movie as a how-to and thought "This is what teen girls like". I was 13 in 2005.

@@jimmypad5501 Bruh, I know that. I was being flippant. And to add, in the year since I've shared this comment I've forgiven them. I'm proud of my parents to have grown a lot since those times. They were older parents when they had me. And when you think of all the crap that we were sold as kids and teens in the 90s and early 00s, I'm sure the adults were just as bombarded and were made to feel like they weren't good parents if they didn't provide X, Y, and Z, buy now, buy now, buy now. That coupled with the generational trauma of them not getting the affection that they needed from their parents (and having absent parents). So I get it, and in our own way, over wine and dinner we've worked it out. While my original post is still true, I hope people keep scrolling to read that there can be growth and change and come back to love one another.

Loved the architecture and the displays, maybe helped awaken my future archaeologist. ;) But what I remember most intensely is my sister daring me to go on that enormous high-ass water slide at the top of the pyramid, saying she'd go if I did, and I did it even though I definitely was the most scared of heights, and SHE NEVER DID IT. Real talk though: wear your seatbelt (in car too but in this case we're talking about a plane) during the take off and landing, ideally in cruise as well. If the plane needs to reject the take off or go around (or encounters a turbulence or a windshear), it will safe you some bruises. The flight attendants are injured by the turbulence more often than the passengers because in comparison they spend more time on their feet. Also the "sit down, buckle up, we're next for take off" part doesn't seem very realistic. The dad could technically be a pilot, some rich people even fly actual airliners. Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden actually worked as an airline pilot apart from his music career and piloted the 757s and 747s the band used for some tours. Willem-Alexander (king of the Netherlands) used to be a KLM pilot (even after becoming the king!), flying Fokker 70 and Boeing 737 aircraft. Also John Travolta, while he only has a private pilot's license (he can't fly for revenue), he did buy and fly an old Quantas Boeing 707 (which he donated to a museum a few years ago). Just some fun planes facts
