Blogger, Andrew Petiprin, for Word on Fire did a review on the Corpus Christi movie (idk why), and didn't do enough to warn about the graphic content... This movie has some seriously sick, graphic, sex scenes. Additionally, it didn't really live up to the expectations set forth by Word on Fire. It is not worth watching (if you care about preserving your purity/memory). I trusted the recommendation and watched the movie (with my fiancee at the time), and it was extremely awkward & unpleasant. I felt horrible exposing her to a movie recommended by a prominent Catholic website. The movie, in no way, provided any spiritual epiphanies. You are better off watching a movie like "For Greater Glory" for spiritual growth. Again, *DO NOT* watch Corpus Christi. It goes against the virtue of chastity - this imagery (near occasion of sin) should be avoided completely. If you choose to watch it still... have your finger on the fast-forward button and may God help you.

In Orthodoxy we have a saying about why one should go to Church even though God is everywhere - One man asked a priest: "If God is everywhere, what do I go to Church for?" To which the priest replied: "The whole atmosphere is filled with water; but when you want to drink you have to go to a fountain or a well."

The person they had training Robert De Niro in chant was Paul Salamunovich, you should check him out. He was in charge of conducting choirs for a lot of hollywood movies (as per his IMDB). I knew Paul, and he loved telling stories of his interaction with Robert De Niro during the filming, De Niro was very professional and respectful, taking in all the feedback from the priest and from Paul on chant. It's a good movie.

Hello Mr. O'Hearn, I would just like to let you know (If you haven't figured it out yet), the Mass Setting used in Robert Deniro's Movie was Missa II. The Ite Missa Est II (Shown in the movie) is personally my favorite, and according to wikipedia Missa II is usually used for Solemnities and Class I feasts.

Watch part of the mass of the ages, Midnight mass, in Latin, in Christmas Holiday, 1944, with Deanna Durbin and Gene Kelly (available on YT). No comparison to that Goldberg movie. Night and day.

It seems to work both ways sometimes though. When my brother was in medical school he and one of his friends who was a nurse sang each week at one of the Sunday Masses (yes, guitars) and then on several Saturday nights a month they sang at some local pubs and restaurants. They sang kind of mellow stuff (this was mid-80s) like Prisoner in Disguise, Piano Man, Wildfire, Time in a Bottle, Sweet Home Alabama, Killing Me Softly, American Pie, etc. They always did a particular “final song” before closing-“Be Not Afraid” which I think is by the St Louis Jesuits. They were GREAT on everything but that song was truly amazing. Talking stopped people just sat and listened, and the song’s end was always met with enthusiastic clapping and questions of who wrote that, what’s the name of that song, so they got to do some low-key Catholic evangelizing and sometimes invite people to Mass. (Don’t tell Pope Francis.) No one ever complained that “Hey, this is a secular establishment,” etc. So, it really can work both ways!

The documentary is about the Mass. Outside of Mass we can do as much as possible to be part of the world. Congratulations on evangelizing using pop music, God bless you!

So, you will have music from The Mass performed at symphony halls, etc in a secular setting, like Bach's Mass in B Minor or Mozart's Requiem. No one minds if the music is good, even if it is in Latin.

While I’m not promoting the idea of a Mass like that in Sister Act, the setting is more like early 80’s because a young JP2 is the Pope who comes to see them for the final “concert.”

Yes, God is everywhere and you can talk to God, but the mass is a special event. Like you said, it’s the representation of the Holy Sacrifice and the intersection of Heaven and earth. It’s not just any moment.

Because no where else is the Crucifixion depicted- and yes God is everywhere- and yes we pray (hopefully) everywhere- The priest - Apostle - offers the sacrifice of the Mass-

SISTER ACT is just entertainment. The rendition of " Hail Holy Queen" is disrespectful. Just compare it with the "Salve Regina", sung after the Latin Mass!

I am curious what you said about St. Padre Pio's last Mass facing the people. I didn't get to look into this enough, but I noticed that in the video I saw of him. Which form of the Mass was he actually using?

The so called interim mass, or Tridentine mass said versus populum which was popularized by Pope Paul VI in the years following Vatican II. I might be wrong, but he was granted permission to say his last mass provided that he celebrate it Versus populum. One thing to note is that St Padre Pio died in 68 and the Novus Ordo Missae came out in 69.

1. I think more people go to mass weekly than live theater or casinos. 2. Virtually no choir could pull this off. Done poorly it becomes a cringe-fest. 3. Sacred polyphony and chant also have a following. 4. The type of people attracted to church for jazzy music might not be there for mass.

Polish. Bog is slavic word for God. Nouns gets declined with grammar endings so C Bogam means ‘with God’.

So for your critique of Whoopi Goldberg's movie sister act it isn't really much of a critique other than you just laughing and saying assertions nor rebutting any of the argument other than well it's this because it's this that's not really an argument.

De Niro also the best repentant sinner in the Mission. His movies got worse and worse. He never aged well. I wonder if he regrets his slow turn from being a serious actor to a bitter old activist/ comic
