someone did this with two phonebooks and tied ropes to the spines, then atached them to two cars. The car broke. It's practically impossible.

has nothing to do with molecules being attracted together.. their surface is rough like the road it has grip. multiplying this by the number of pages in contact and cpmpression increases the friction to a point that we can't pull them apart. use a super flat (glossy plastic) sufrace and there is no friction despite the "molecules" being closer together.
