This is happening because BSG's implementation of everything is a half-measure. Scav AI is not meant to shoot your head, for the most part, but because buckshot spreads while the Scav is trying to hit your thorax it kills you from certain angles.
The reason SNB is cheap is because it spawns very frequently in the new customs area as well as reserve. You can easily find boxes and boxes of 30-rounds.
Also on Woods. Woods is my most played map, and I quite often go in using SNB on it and still have a mag box nearly full of the stuff from all the ammo spawns in sunken village and the various scav spots. Also the crafting recipe in the hideout (one red gunpowder for 80 SNB) is easily available as well if you prefer to make it yourself.
7:36 Bullets that penetrates armor deal less flesh damage. The closer the armor is to stopping the round, the more damage reduction. This means, if you are wearing a paca, the couple percent damage reduction you get can allow you to survive a thorax shot from 7N1. If you are wearing level 3 or 4 armor, you are never going to get one tapped by 7N1 unless the bullet fragments.
Putting this here first then watching the video but as a player who isn’t the best and plays more casually so I don’t usually have the most amount of money in the game I love me a good silenced VPO run with ap ammo.
I got a 200m headshot with this bad boy last weekend (dome to white knight). I out sniped two of my mates who were trying to do shooter born in heaven kills with rsass's so I guess it's not about the size of the gun 😏😏

VPO-215 hands down best bank for buck. For 18,5k you get this beast. This Beaty comes with natural high ergonomics, allowing you to ADS much faster and hold ADS for longer compared to the much more expensive Mosin rifle. VPO-215 comes with cheap 4-round magazines, allowing for fast mid fight reloads. And the caliber 366. AP rounds comes in at a whopping 90 flesh damage, with 42 pen value. This will result in reliable one taps to the thorax on anything except class 5 and 6 body armor and also one tap 95% of helmets in the game. 366. AP has a relative high value of 60 armor damage, enabling you to break through class 5 and 6 armor in a few shots. VPO-215 can be equipped with a cheap suppressor for roughly 18k roubles and comes with a scope rail allowing the application of most assault scopes, collimators and ring mounts of your choice. The only negative downside to the VPO-215 is the relative slow muzzle velocity which can make it difficult to hit shots from more than 150 meters if you are not familiar with zeroing or the 366. velocity. I personally used this whenever i was doing the tarkov shooter taskline or was just simply leveling sniper skill on my way to kappa. I still use the VPO-215 to this day, even though i've got my kappa and got enough roubles to run full meta/slick each raid, just because the VPO is so satisfying and fun. 10/10 would recommend.
SV-98 has been my go-to this wipe! Especially after the bolt-action ergo buffs they did a little while ago. I always run 7N1 with great results. Pro-tip: You can have this rifle with an excellent scope all in for ~60k roubles sans ammunition. The 1P59/1P69 scope is available on the flea market between 10-15k roubles, and the mount from Prapor is always cheap. Very PSO like optic, except with a 3x-10x zoom, perfect for those long range snipes.

Agreed. The mosin is cool and all, but the long sniper version has basically no ergo, worse accuracy, is awkward to fit anything but the standard 3.5x scope on, has more recoil... etc. Top loading is kind of awkward to me if running more expensive rounds, as every time you load you drop one on the ground. Not the biggest deal, or if you care you can pick it up, but annoying still. I guess an advantage is that you expose less ammo in case you die if you're only keeping 5 or so in your pockets, compared to having ~20 ammo exposed if running SV-98 with one extra mag, fully loaded (although if that's an issue you can just load them halfway... nevermind. The mosin does have higher muzzle velocity though, so that may or may not be something you care about.
Dude I JUST finished tarkov shooter part 8 with the sv-98 it’s my bread and butter bolt action rifle. I’ve ran one with a valday AND one in secondary with iron sights.. Worked incredibly well to lock in a close range bolt action kill with the iron sight secondary to save my quest. Good stuff Jesse
Tracers draw a straight line to where you are. The guy you're shooting at wont be able to see it, but anyone else will! I actually just played a raid where my team was crossing an exposed area one at a time. A sniper opened up on the first two guys from behind. It was suppressed, BUT he was using tracer ammo. From getting one clear view of one tracer, I could draw a straight line in my mind to his approximate spot. And from there I walked 100 meters left and shot him in the side of the head while he was waiting for my friends to leave cover. I might have found him eventually if he wasn't using tracer ammo, but because he was, I could go straight for him.
Honestly anytime i'm doing sniping that is not part of tarkov shoot i just use the OP SKS. Cheap easy to set up and can still do the job up close. 35 round mag BP rounds and go. If i have to use a Bolt the .366 is my pick .366 AP just wrecks and most tarkov shooter quest don't really need you shoot so far that the slow round speed matters that much.
Great video Jesse, I always wondered why the mosin was more expensive than the sv98 when the sv98 is pretty much a straight up a better gun, but I think it's important to note that armor does reduce the damage of a bullet even if it penitraits the armor so the 7n1 can only one shot the thorax if the target has no armor on. Other than that, great video I love the work you do for the tarkov community.
NEVER USE 7N1. It will not kill with onetap if they have armour, because it decreases the damage. Snb is way cheaper and will always pen LV 6 armour and it will two tap thorax. Snb is super OP. And it will destroy armors so if you have a pistol you can it one shot with sniper and then spam with pistol in close range because their armour is destroyed.
@@chikinkieven8817 yes i totally agree, if there were any full auto weapons with that round, it would make everything else basic trash. Though with an svds the chads drop like flies already.
best thing about the SV-98 is you can get a lot of them for under 70k with a valday because scavs players throw them up with the scope on it still I get them all the time with the valday for arround 40-70k
I think it is worth noting that SNB rounds have a reduction to accuracy and in addition are commonly found. I believe this is why they are consistently so cheap. Those long shots with a 2% reduction in accuracy may miss so it's only good for medium to short range if you ask me.
Same, the gun can be found from scavs easily and adding a suppressor and some ergo is cheap. Plus the point fire is excellent if you happen to be come across someone closer than anyicipated
Due to the nature of the bolty, it aint set up for close range, obviously, so the height of a combo sight is less important.... so the ADO P4 scope is a perfect cheap and flexible option for this gun with 3 zoom levels. It's a great and versatile space gun combo option.
as a solo in his 1st wipe, i only ever managed to kill AND loot chads while sniping naked with my nice mosin x3.5. while fighing normally, i either die, or kill someone then dont manage to loot him. i have a stash full of good stuff taken by mosin
Also the sv-98 has a really high ergo for a bolty so it's ads time is quite low compared to a mosin so in a shi hit the fan moment u can normally get off a aimed shot
I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the SV-98 can't be top-loaded and that means that reloading it doesn't level the sniper skill that you need to get to level 5 (+ SBiH and WJp6) for quests. Something to consider with this rifle imo assuming I'm correct about that.
I think you gotta remember that not everyone who has flea unlocked has prapor maxed, so they can still become messed up expensive. Just because it's available at a vendor, doesn't mean everyone has access to it xD Unless it's a level 1 or 2 at least
I really like running this gun with a 5.7 pistol and sniping away from some high up position. But at least i know why my SNB jumped in price for a while.
Here come the SV98lings... but no joke i dont understand why everyone uses the mosin over this even after the mosin price nerfs. Makes me scratch my head, if my PMC still has one
I feel like the 762-54 is extremely underrated in this game ammo is fairly cheap and it mercs the heaviest of Chad's snb will punch any armor in the game load into an svd and its stupid deadly
I'm surprised it's as overlooked as it is. With all the Mosin nerfs from ergo (-2 base at one point), to price that used to be originally as low as 26k (maybe 23k?) and now around double (I think) from Prapor I. The SV-98 is the most sensible choice once it's available. I know the memes are real but between the fact that the stock SV has an ergo that high, and the fact it shoots the same ammo as the Mosin...you'd think it's a no-brainer decision. I remember the biggest bitch about the Mosin was that it was effective against decent armor, and it was available from day one fresh start. I haven't played personally for a while now. I'm just not seeing as many people using it often in their vids.
The problem I find with the SV 98 is that you can get a M700 for around the same price, ok it doesn't come with a stock 10round mag, but there's far more options with the m700. Also I'm pretty sure it's ergo is better than SV98 (don't quote me on that).
Does 7n1 actually 1 shot consistently? Often times i notice that when shooting a level 4, but sometimes even level 3, armor, the bullet damage gets reduced by something like 2 points, effectively leaving your target barely alive. Of course i do not know how often this happens but it does happen. Needless to say someone with 1 hp to the thorax will die to a leg shot because the damage overflow will kill them but still, i wonder if 7n1 is really worth it.
i think bolt action snipers should all hve their own rounds. by that u could buff the top ammo of this type to one tap level 6 thorax and it would make bolts more usefull and it wouldnt effect full auto guns or dmrs. kinda funny how a dmr can one tap you in your pinky but with bolts u need 2 shots or a headshot^^ tarkov logic
yep i mean it feels good to destroy people with bolt action rifles in tarkov but u could do the same with dmrs or assault rifles... but i wish bolts should all have their own type of ammo. i wish m700 could use snb. and btw funny how a dmr can one shot u in the pinky but with bolts u need 2 shots thorax or a headshot^^
1 thing I dont get in sniping is why are bolt actions expensive for how little they offer, I'd rather if the devs didnt add too many semi automatic snipers like the m1a, sr25 or the 338, frankly I thought the 338 was gonna be a bolt action, so think theres too many semi auto guns for sniping and bolts are obsolete, but the guns are in the game so they shouldn't delete them, so I'd hope they made bolt actions cheaper and the make them unlock sooner for traders, maybe add more base ergo to them too, at this point I just use them cuz they're fun but it's not effective, and you'll need a pistol or smg with good ammo which with expensive too, I'd like for more mosin rounds to 1 tap but make then extremely hard to get, like the 7bt1 (I think, the tracer one) you cant barter for it (I think) or craft it plus the chance to be spotted cuz of the tracer can count as a trade off, but in general just make semi autos really hard to get or make boltys really cheap and then you'll see people using them

I've been using the SV-98 ALL wipe. Got my Tarkov buddies addicted to it to. You can get it, suppress it, and scope it to your liking for the cost of a Mosin and PSU (and honestly the PSU sucks). Same price, better ergo, better scopes, suppressed, and NO ONE PICKS IT UP? My dudes, it's a no brainer. But now you've ruined it. :P
