Roger Federer made a legendary comeback in 2017 after a 6 month injury lay off, winning two Grand Slam titles and several Masters titles, going 4-0 vs eternal rival Rafael Nadal. In this video though I take a look at Roger's most surprising loss of the 2017 season. Can you guess which one it is?
Here are some other videos about Roger Federer's 2017 season I've made:

Hey everyone! As things are getting tougher than ever on RU-vid with various new policies & rules, I've decided to start this page where you can support me if you'd like to help out: buymeacoffee.com/razols Any amount would be super appreciated and help me invest more of my time into making videos. I've had my channel for more than 8 years now mainly uploading videos of Roger Federer. This year RU-vid has implemented some changes to their policies and rules which have made it difficult for many of us amateur channels to keep going, hence why I started the page above. I'm also planning on starting a Patreon page with memberships which will offer some exclusive videos, like the top 1000 video, that I can't currently have up on my channel. Thanks for all the support over the years 🎾🙏

I guess we can say the Donskoy match was a real donkey loss

Fed was and is still my idol : sayin that is an understatement because My one big dream was to see him play once in my life. I was living in Germany so the nearest place I could go watch matches was Stuttgart, we didn't have a lot of money so I went a first time in 2013 when it was still on clay and then twice in 2015 and 2017. In 2017 I already cried so much when Rog won that AO and I couldn't be happier to see him play on grass and for the absolute first time... He would be right in front of me, a living legend. We had tickets for the 1/4 and semi's which would have been Rogers second round and third round match ( he was seeded). I remember this day perfectly. I was at tennis training and by arriving a friend of mine told me that he had loss against Tommy Haas, and I could not believe it so I took it as a joke and we both lough at it, so really I didn't think it was true... When I came home I checked the schedule to see when he would play and then I saw Haas's name... I can tell you I probably stood still for over a minute not knowing how to react and actually devastated to know I won't see him. And sadly I never had the chance again. Although this might sound stupid I promise you that it was equally devastating as a breakup or SMT like this. I guess I was just a 15 year old fan who dreamt to see his idol but who understood on that day, that he never would🙃

Impressive how Roger accepted this defeat with smiley face, that's why I am a roger fan

He doesn’t normally take defeat well and often has excuses in his post match press conferences so it’s not a great reason to be a roger fan. Maybe his play style and longevity are more realistic reasons which is why I support Roger.

I remember this tournament ended so weird, especially as a Fed fan. After such a great season between him and Rafa, I don’t think anyone expected a Goffin vs Dimitrov final lol

One of his weirdest losses. Went completely off after the first set. That tournament was a guarantee, as well as the US Open if he hadn't been injured previously. An another N1 finish missed.

If he played even just a couple of tournaments on clay he would have been number 1 anyway. That's something people don't consider, he let many opportunities like this slip away because he wasn't obsessed by numbers and records and also because he was so far ahead at that time. He wasn't always chasing like Djokovic, he didn't have that mentality. If he truly wanted to keep all his records he would have done things differently.
@masters.1000
@masters.1000 3 месяца назад
@@lukerne9260 He surely would have beaten Nadal in RG. He wanted to play it safe and win Wimbledon. The key to his success at the time was because he was fresh.
@lukerne9260

@@masters.1000 a couple of clay tournaments wouldn't have made a difference on his body. He did the same in 2018 and it didn't work as he stopped playing for too long and wasn't able to regain his form on the grass. In 2019 he played on clay and not only reached the semis of RG but he won Halle and reached Wimbledon final which he almost won.

I don't think this is a terrible loss since Goffin really lifted his level but it's one of those where one has to rue Roger's missed chances. He had a number of these losses where just one break opportunity taken could've changed the whole result, but it wasn't to be. He had several more of these matches in 2018 and 2019 of course.

There's one match when he's leading in set 1 and ended-up losing in 2nd and 3rd sets. the opponent was Nalbandian. before final he's already beating Nadal and Djokovic. believe or not he's defeating peak Federer in 2007. too bad i'm not sure which tournament that eliminates big-three.
