Hi! I can answer this for you! ;) Chromia in miner form was just an internal name associated for her color palette. We wanted to re-use the color in the mines. The racer version of Chromia is the correct one.
Was Chromia always intended to be the winner? If so how come the racer design borrows heavily from Mirage rather than her G1 design, like the other background characters do? I think most of the confusion def came from the winners design, but we might all just be looking too deep into it lol
In universe, what if they’re the same Chromia. Hear me out. Chromia wins the race. Pax and D-16 go missing. Sentinel decided to punish Chromia thinking she was behind their disappearance. Chromia is now a minor bot when we see her again.
Doesn't work, Sentinel told the miner bots that D16 and Pax died during the race, and not only would Chromia know who they were due to racing against them, but also it means Sentinel planned for them to dissappear from minute one. He'd have no reason to punish Chromia, as not only would everyone know who she is and would actively have eyes on her making punishing her horrible for his own public relations, but also why would he be mad at anyone when he planned it to happen? He doesn't even need a scapegoat as no one is directly angry towards him since he clearly made it seem like Pax and D16 simply died in an accident
the real question is why in the hell Chromia looks like Mirage. Like seriously, when Chromia "won," I still thought it was Mirage even though it showed her name. Mirages' head has those side-vent things on it. Chromia has a buckethead.
Blurr didn’t win the Iacon 5000 because he wasn’t shooting himself up with Red Energon at the time much like how A-Train was shooting himself up with Compound V. I headcanon that the miner that looks like Chromia is Velocity since Windblade and Velocity are both from Caminus and Windblade was in the Iacon 5000.
This is just my theory/headcanon. I think THE Chromia wasn't originally named Chromia but she saw how cool Iacon Chromia was so she named herself Chromia after Iacon Chromia. I mean, Megatron named himself after Megatronus Prime so maybe other bots can named themselves after another bots too. I dunno. Just my headcanon. That or the announcer is Steve Harvey-tron.
The Chromia miner does have a the mint color close to Moonracer, unlike concept which has a darker blue. So it could just be that they made Mirage into Chromia and either made the original concept mint blue or just left it as is.
@@darthbarth2188 I don't think they thought that far ahead and thus it's just a mint colored fembot and seeing how Moonracer is someone else, Lifeline is kinda the only other option. Basically saying that they didn't intend for that bot to have an actual name, but Lifeline is the best option
I mean yea but names to me are kinda like conversation when it comes to media. Conversation can be messy and hard to follow so media makes them feel natural but aren’t actually natural. Names can be shared by different people but it has to serve a purpose or have a reason behind it.
I think that the Miner bot Chromia took her name from the racer. We know all the bots take their own names, Since D-16 takes the Name Megatron obviously, and someone in the film comments on Orion Pax being a weird name for Orion to choose, So i like to think she took her name from a Racer she looked up too. There were probably a good few Miner bots that took names from the higher class bots they looked up too.

Ya know, I’ve been thinking about this for quite while since o watched the movie and I though, what if this is a sort of rid2015 Grimlock situation, where there are two separate characters who happen to have the same names and similar attributes. It’s either that or miner named herself after the racer out of admiration or something, similar to how Megatron named himself after Megatronus in this film and other continuities.
I have this funny yet kinda dumb theory that the reason why Blurr didn't show up in Iacon 5000 was due to him being too fast and for that reason he got banned...some time ago idk

Cause there's Ratchets name was drop after the Iacon 5000 Race and multiple can be seen in the same scene somewhere in the movie

Therory, Racer Chromia was killed when the high guard started laying waist to Iacon likey by a peice of falling debris or by a stray energon blast, when Miner Chromia (who was a fan of Racer Chromia) learned of this, she took her name to honer her legacy.
I know this might be a error but I like headcanon to Sentinel takes the winner’s T-Cog and makes them into a miner since..spoilers…he loves stealing t-cogs, especially miners.
I think that swaping the model and reusing part of the animation would've been an easy change, even if it would have needed to render again. But I'm no animator.
Yeah that was obviously NOT meant to be Chromia in the race, everyone else is super recognizable, why would she be the outlier, specially when SHE WAS IN THE MINES
If you want to make up a in-lore reason for copies, Transformers Animated introduced the idea that a group of Cybertronians can share the same mold due to being forged from the same line. I.E Bumblebee and Cliffjumper have the same molds as they were forged in the 65356-9292-346 body shell. I heard that TF One takes inspiration from multiple continuities so it is possible they took that idea from TFA and used it for TF One
I recall that there are would-be Decepticons among the people of Iacon and participated in the Iacon 5000 race as seen on the list of participants. Which would imply that they joined the newly formed Autobots composed of Cogged citizens of Iacon and the former Cogless miners led by Optimus Prime in the ending of TF One film. Out of gratefulness that the True Prime with the Matrix of Leadership brought back the flow of Energon and that he saved everyone from Megatron and the High Guard going on a rampage on Iacon just for being associated with Sentinel despite the fact the citizenry turned against him after learning the truth of Sentinel being a puppet of the Quintessons. It's so hilarious to imagine Megatron unintentionally alienated powerful groups like Stunticons (Motormaster, Dragstrip and Deadend), the Vehicon Generals (Tankor and Jetstorm) and the Combaticons (Swindle) into siding with the Autobots.
ngl if they pull a "it's actually a new character and she's related to chromia maybe her twin" i would be okay, sure, with that choice but just for future appearance i hope they evaluate the film before further finishing in production
Honestly i genuinely think it was an slip up. My theory is that they had the announcer record lines for a variety of winners and for some reason they chose Chromia's name, which would be reasonable to assume since she was on the leader board they probably had A list of the racers on hand. On top of that, the scene where she wins there are no indicators to show Chromia's name. The announcer is a body-less voice and the female voice actor that did her voice could have easily been switched in when they decided to make her the winner. 3-d rendered would've taken a very long time to redo for the whole scene, and maybe the 3d artist were told it would be Mirage but it was changed at a later stage after the scenes were rendered. The film actually has quite a few visual and audio errors, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was also just something that got mixed up during production.
So something I’ve noticed when watching the movie is that in a shot when Orion punched darkwing there was a miner bot that looked a little bit like Mirage and had the same color palette now it could be a Erie or just some random bot that looks like Mirage
Honestly, as a Chromia fan, I muuucchhh prefer the miner design, and like that she got to body Optimus Prime and Megatron AT ONCE (kinda), so I think they should just quietly use the less Mirage design in the future and pretend it never happened
Despite already getting an answer for this confusion, there is another answer we could consider. Multiple cybertronians can share the same name, or does everyone keep forgetting that we had "Fat" Tankor and "Tall" Tankor in IDW.
I think I can tell why Chromia cogless is there, here me out: What if her t-cog got removed by Sentinel after winning Iacon 5000 because the audience's attention were towards D-16 and Orion, not Chromia. So Sentinel forced her work on Energon Mines like how Mirage got himself into Mines after winning former Iacon race but being too famous more than Sentinel himself

Pretty sure it was supposed to be mirage that wins, however hasbro or the director thought to have a bit of diversity and change the look a bit of mirage with chromia instead.
I'm just gonna go out on a limb here, and say that with how competitive Chromia can be, she likely somehow got her hands on a cog, and kept it hidden, like contraband or something, in preparation for her own chance to race in the Iacon 5000...The most believable story I can come up with, and have heard of since. (No offense.) Who knows, maybe it was an error, maybe the pinned comment is a spy trying to shut us up...Which would honestly be fair, Jason if that were true, I wouldn't blame you one bit, this is weird. But honestly, for the fans sake, since Miner Chromia is clearly more visually like G1 Chromia than Racer Chromia which it seems the movie was trying to do to begin with. I would recommend (if anyone from the movie creation is reading this) say that Chromia was a Miner. She somehow managed to get her hands on a cog for the Iacon 5000 races, but hid it as well as she could because it'll likely be considered contraband in her line of existence. And once the races finally rolled around, she pulls it out, plugs it in, and heads off into the races, wins, comes home, and hides it away for next time again. Which I don't know about you, would sound better than "Racer Chromia is real, we re-used the color palette for an un-named Miner." Especially since she was already in the character design showcase.
I’m fine with this change to be honest, tho I would’ve preferred if they just had Mirage win the race and also stayed a dude because as you said chromia as a miner bot would’ve worked better for her and iron hides relationship but who knows
The winner of the race is in fact Mirage not Chromia. Chromia isn't even in the race. Oddly enough according to TFwiki Mirage is both a racer and a miner. Also the box art is clearly showing Blurr and is not at all what Mirage looks like in the movie.
