Great question, since the nature of the personality isn't designed for successful marriage ! It could be culture, 'looking good' and fitting in to societal expectations, purely for supply, or the fear of abandonment (longevity of marriage and having children could seem appealing), of course, narcissists see people (even children) as extensions of themselves and in their mind - marriage and children are 'for keeps'. It could be all of the above. Sometimes, even those without NPD aren't sure of their motivations to be married, narcissists seldom understand their 'why', and so the fact is, nobody can be sure but certainly, some of the things mentioned above makes sense as to why they could be willing to go that route. @@charmainespeaks very scary, everything is about control for them. You have to focus your attention on them or they will get angry. I broke up with him last year November after a lot of things that I saw that didn't seemed right. He was copying me using my perfume etc. At one point I asked if he was gay and he got mad. Now he is hovering and I told him I will call the police next time.
