Yeah, I hate to say it, but it’s kind of true. The fact that SAS was making an argument for Shai on the basis of “he scored 30 a game but was only 3rd in the scoring race” was weak as hell. Jokic may not be as good of a defender, but he’s certainly better in every other aspect of the game.
Shaq is a disgrace. Fine, he can be disappointed over Jokic winning over SGA, but to air that while actually presenting Jokic with the award is selfish and classless.
seriously. That was just downright classes what Shaq did and I am a fan of what Shaq the player did for Lakers. I hope he never presents any NBA award again.
I don't recall seeing that happen before in any sport. Where a player wins the MVP and an all-time great former player tells the player to his face "Someone else deserved this MVP." What a disgrace.
The only reasoning that makes any sense to me is that Shaq has a podcast and he knows that he will be voicing his opinion that SGA should have won, therefore Shaq felt like he needed to tell Jokic just to be upfront with him. It was in the spirit of honesty I guess. That’s my only attempt at a justification.
@@joebenson528 ok so do you remember any Black players with 7 MVPs including Jordan? NO! So stop insinuating they give EASY mvps to Black players! That is simply not true.
Wasn’t that a reward for him betraying France and instead wearing the Team USA jersey for 2024 Olympics? Man I hope Wemby and Gobert get extra home court buff to shit on the Team USA parade.
Sure, but the greatest of the greats (MJ, Kareem, Lebron, etc) all had years the MVP was given to someone else because of voter fatigue. Jokic is just in that category now.
It's because Perkins is a rabid racist, and he couldn't stand to see a white man do better than a black guy, who cried his way to the award. Jokic just wanted the title.
To be fair, Embiid had an excellent season last year and was better defensively but worse in assist because he plays in a different system. The problem is that Kendrick Perkins dumb ass ruined the entire award by inserting race.
For one of the most accomplished athletes ever, Shaq is maybe the most insecure. If he wanted more MVPs he should’ve taken the regular season more seriously
@@sirkevstah289 He doesn't wanna get eclipsed by a white foreigner unathletic big man who's actually more skillful. That's what's making Shaq insecure coz he should be the "most dominant center ever".
He should've taken the OFFSEASON more seriously. Shaq showed up bloated every season and it eventually took its toll on his body. If Shaq had the work ethic of Kobr he would have been the greatest center to ever play the game, if not the GOAT.
Shaq is so disrespectful. A bully. A crying baby. I used to love shaq, but straight telling joker to his face that he doesn’t deserve mvp. I lost all respect for him
No, he only wants to win horse racing trophies, but someone trolled him and convinced him that he needed to become the best basketball player in the world to do so, so he did lmao
dude, Kevin Hart said NBA should NOT ALLOW Jokic to win MVP again because it would make the league look bad. Imagine that. The guy had a playoff run for the ages last season, leading the league in virtually every single metric, but since he's white, can't jump very high, doesn't have the flashy moves and doesn't talk trash, he doesn't deserve to win it again,, better give it to someone else. So ridiculous.
Playoff run for the ages? You casuals need to stop this Great White Hype nonsense hahaha. Dude has never beaten a playoff team with 50+ and is getting slapped by the Twolves
@@ammonaustin9081 and i wouldnt consider timberwolves being up 2-1 as "slapped" not to mention in the 2 games they lost Jokic still was close to having a triple double in both games. so no one is "slapping" jokic and youre the only casual here
I believe it was stated that Jokic is the only MVP winner who has never had a teammate who was selected to an allstar team. He is literally the one carrying his team.
DJ is an old role player that isn't even playing in garbage time. You better be joking by using that to counter what he meant. Jokic has no other all star that is helping him shoulder the load.
The real scandal is that SGA came in 2nd instead of Luka. If you want to argue for "scoring numbers" you have to give it to Luka. Advanced stats are on Jokic's side but Luka is 2nd on most of them. SGA has absolutely nothing going for him but being in the "best team". That's the whole argument.
@@robertw174 People should be blaming Embiid for SGA not winning this year. The reason Jokic won is bc he was supposed to win last year. It should’ve been between Luka and SGA this year and it should’ve went to Luka.
SGA got the best narrative in my opinion. He literally dragged his team from the 10th seed to the number 1 seed in one year with no obvious co-star. That and the way he did it is really impressive. However, I am not mad at Jokic winning. If anyone didn't deserve it, would be Luka. I didn't like that Jokic won it as a 6th seed and wouldn't think Luka deserved it as a 5th seed.
Facts. I saw Gil and his group of clowns talking about team record and how OKC was better. Nuggets and Thunder had the same record lol. These shows like Gil's Arena, 1st Take, Undisputed, etc are there for 1 reason: Give hot takes to go viral. You never see any of those shows break down game footage. They rarely talk about game winning plays. It's all narratives and box scores.
Draymond Green is such a ignorant lazy idiot. This dude just talk out of his ass and never get his information and fact right before giving his uneducated takes
They definitely don't. They're too busy so they look at the numbers & the highlights then make up takes based on that alone. They maybe watch 3-4 actual full games per week. I have no idea how in 2024 they still don't have people who are hired to only watch every full game & analyze them.
@@Arctanis-vt3hl Podcasts i listen to are already talking about him being better than Tatum. And that he should have been before him on MVP. And he doesn't even have better regular season stats than Tatum. Talk about getting the benefit of the doubt.
“You’re the greatest player in the NBA.” “But you’re not the MVP, Shai is.” Isn’t that what he said before saying something insane about being the “President of the Big-Man Club” while Jokic was merely the VP?
That was a pricks act Shaq bringing it up during the announcement when he knew all Jokic’s family and friends would be watching. What a terrible moment to air his grievances and an abuse of power quite frankly
Shaq is bitter because Jokic is going to pass him on the GOAT center list and GOAT player list. That's what it's really about. Yeah Shaq has always been a petty little bitch about being "robbed" for MVPs, but he's extra salty because Jokic is a center who is passing him in historical greatness.
in shaqs case i think its more that he wants to be remembered as an all-time big man and the last seal of the prophets, so to speak. any big man that comes along and starts winning too many mvps he gets jealous of as a threat to his legacy
@@sergeayissi939 we love jokic because he's an amazing basketball player breathing fresh life into the game with his unique playstyle. we will leave the racial nonsense to people liek you. have a nice day
Every thing in this society is kind of racial! If Jokic was black you guys would not care if he won the MVP or not! But since he's white he needs to be awarded 4 MVPs in a row regardless of the achievement of the other players. THIS is kind of racist too!
@@sergeayissi939 lmao thats just your excuse for why youre a racebaiting lowlife. i absolutely dont care if jokic wins mvps. mvps dont really matter but since the westbrook mvp they go not to "the best player on the best team," as in the past, but to the best player overall, as assessed by stats. fine, whatever. by these new criteria, ofc jokic is deserving of 3 in 4 years. embiid deserved the mvp last year (could have gone either way and either way would have been fine) and embiid would have deserved it over jokic this year if he'd kept it up without injury. no actual basketball fan has any problem with acknowledging the greatness of players. what we care about is performance, not skin color. you should try that, you might become less bitter and dissipated
nah jokic gets a lot of stats, but he leaves the floor a lot when he's about to hit a benchmark like a triple double he doesn't care about that other stars will force things to get a triple double. they won't leave the floor
@@throeawae2130 good point, He's a playmaker. First and foremost, he doesn't try to hang 40 every night. He won't stay on the floor just to get that last assist to get a triple-double. I see many games where he ends with nine assists when that last assist would have given him a trouble double for the game
That's why the only way they could become financially successful is through basketball. Especially the big men who lack real skills and rely entirely on their size. Jokic who is actually a skilled player is the opposite of players like Shaq and that's why the establishment hates him (besides the bigoted feelings they have towards Jokic, Luka, Dirk, Nash etc). If Chet can develop into a phenom without being hindered by that stacked young team, he'll be the next "Klutch" Sports target.
I love how Dray dray and Bron think they are actually real world smart because they can identify angles and anticipate player movement on a basketball court. Leads to some funny and cringey shit when they open their mouths.
So Jokic can win it regardless of seeding in the 3rd-4th seed, 6th seed, and 2nd-1st seed as long as he averages close to a triple double every season? I guess defense doesn’t matter.
Someone really said on TV that Shai had better individual stats than Jokic. I hate the mainstream media in our era so much. At least there are still some people like Ernie Johnson that know what they're talking about.
Shaq and Kenny were talking 💩 while Jokic was literally watching that segment with his family and the team live. Then he had to go live to talk with them after the disrespect. I was shocked that they didn't think that through. You can see the exact moment where Kenny switches up his tune when he realizes Jokic is waiting and has been listening.
Jokic hate is is as legendary as he is. Legler goes on national TV and calls Jamal an All-Star. Maybe that’s why no one wants to give the MV3 credit. They think he’s on a team of all stars. fact is he makes above average players play like all stars
Jamal has a Crappy Playoffs rn, but damn 2 buzzer beats against the Laker and a decent enuf Shooting in Game 3 against T Wolves makes you think that you cant count him out just yet
If Jokic was aware of all this.. which he is not. He does not own any social media accounts.. I bet Jokic would be like, "Here, Shai. take it. I don't want it. Apparently, me playing basketball makes people angry."
It really stinks how anyone can crap on someone who - slow, can’t jump and allegedly can’t play defense but the man can dribble(6’11”) ,rebound, shoot inside and out and his passing is unreal. Sounds to me like jealousy more then anything. Congrats Jokic!
For sure. He's literary the furthest away from a stat padder as you can get. I mean, the "Sombor double" (being one rebound or assist away from a TD) is named so because it happens so often with Jokic. He only cares about his team winning and if an extra assist, point, or rebound, doesn't make a difference in that regard, he doesn't care about it.
He opened the game with his screens. He had deflections, he stole 3 balls and he had 3 blocked shots. His passes and handoffs are so reliable, but it is very overlooked by the casuals.
Assists in general are overrated. I wish the NBA as a whole didnt' count this stat. And I'm not hating on Jokic, I think it's a horrible stat for all players unless you're throwing someone an alley-oop. That requires timing and accuracy. If you're throwing it to a wide open jumpshooter you are NOT helping that person make the shot. They are making it on their own. If you disagree, consider this: Would you rather pass to a wide open Steph Curry for 3? Or a wide open Russell Westbrook for 3? If you are truly assisting the shooter, then it doesn't matter. But we all know it matters who is taking the shot.
@@Arctanis-vt3hl It's easier to make a catch-and-shoot jumper then one off the dribble. That is why assisting to open players is valuable. More player can make that shot. Only the elite ones consistently makes jumpshots off the dribble.
I never thought I'd see the day that someone would use the term "stat-stuffer" to argue for ANOTHER player over Jokic for MVP. That's like using the word "dangerous" to explain why some other animal is a bigger threat than a grizzly bear. The bear is pretty much the king of being dangerous.
"Shai averaged 30!" 😠 Waaaaa! 😢. The dude is a point guard!!!!!! No one mentioned that. He's supposed to avg 30 a game ffs. Jokic isn't "supposed" to get ANY of the stats he gets as a center, but he's a master chef. All these media fools think the national broadcast is their personal podcast. Save that whiny baby subjective favorite conversation where you ignore facts and gas up your buddies until you're off work.
“Might”? 3 MVPs in 4 seasons already puts him ahead of Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing, and every center not named Wilt, Kareem, or Bill (Russell). And we all know he should have won last year over perennial loser and whiner Joel Embiid.
@@user-xp2iz3so1z I will not tolerate anyone comparing Jokics era to Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson.... Those guys were in the toughest era for that position.... Jokic has no one who can guard hm, plus the modern rules makes playing in the paint soft.
@@Turk_2023 You don't say that for arguing Magic over Curry or for Lebron over Bird? Jokic hardly cares about the paint. He's more of a facilitator and can shoot the 3 ball damn well. He couldn't Shaq or Hakeem but no way they could guard him either.
Here are the facts, tiny-brained Aristotle: Jokic led the league in Value Over Replacement Player, Box Plus-Minus, Defensive Box Plus-Minus (yes, DEFENSIVE box +-), Offensive Box Plus-Minus, Total Win Shares, Win Shares Per 48 Minutes, Offensive Win Shares, and Player Efficiency Rating. And also beat the other MVP candidates in True Shooting Percentage. If you say, "I don't believe in analytics," your metrics ought to be better than leading the league in scoring (at a time when scoring is the easiest it has ever been) and having a flashy playstyle. And for someone who constantly complains about losing two MVPs to Nash (a delusion; Nash may not have deserved it overall, but Shaq was even less deserving) because he wasn't the number one seed, his main argument for SGA was seeding.
Jokic led the playoffs in points, rebounds, and assists last year, won finals mvp and haters are still crying an ocean of salty tears because he won without deckstacking like Lebum and KD. 🤣🤣🤣 Haters picked Phoenixand LA to beat Denver, and some even picked Miami to beat Denver, but when Denver won they said Denver beat weak competition. 🤡🤡🤡🥴🤣🤣😭😭🤣
To be fair, none of these analytics are capable of measuring a player's value. plus minus is the worst stat ever created because I could be on the floor during a 20-0 run and never touch the ball and my plus minus would be +20 even though I had nothing to do with the run.
defensive box plus minus is a misleading stat for jokic because it is partially based on assists - yes, dbpm factors in an offensive stat, assists. so of course jokic's dbpm is distorted.
I was born in 1999 and started paying attention to basketball around the rise of D Rose and I can pretty comfortably say that jokic is the best player I have ever seen outside of peak Steph
Doncic beat SGA in nearly every metric that Shaq claims is important. By Shaq's logic, Doncic should be MVP. And actually, that would have been ok. Doncic and Jokic both put up the best numbers and metrics this season. Either deserves the award.
Joker isn’t bigger stonger faster. According to people today nba players are bigger stronger faster and that makes them better than players from the past. The joker proves that skill is more important than athleticism.
@@giantsashavor7809 bigger, yeah kind of. He’s a center, so he’s big. Stronger? I’d say no. Look at other centers and compare them to joker on strength.
The hilarious thing is that most of the time, they can't outrun him. He consistently rebounds and starts the break, and sometimes even goes basket to basket. And no-one seem to be able to stop him. Athletic or not. The best one this playoffs was when he gave LeBron a slight push mid-court and outran him for an easy layup.
And remember, they gave Embid the MVP instead of Joker last year and joker went on to win the championship while Embid and the 76ers flunked out again just like they have been..
Joker SHOULD be a four time MVP! Joel winning last year over Joker should be a crime! Bottom line is people hate on him. Stephen A just rambles. No one takes him serious lol he just likes to hear himself talk! And "getting bored"? It shouldnt matter! If your better, your better. Point period. If you want a new winner, put in the work to beat him or shutup!
As a black person . I think some of these guess don’t want a white Person to win MVP . It’s so sad . And record was 2-2 and most game mpj, ag, Jamal or kp was injured so it’s sad They just look at scoring
You don't have to guess bro I'm black and I literally see other black people saying Jokic should only have 1 mvp and Jamal Murray carries the team, or Jokic is just "a great white hype". Some of the most delusional takes you'll ever see. Jokic leads Denver in points, rebounds, and assists in the playoffs with a higher field goal and free throw percentage than Jamal but they say he's not the leader. 🤔🥴🤣🤣🤣
You are right. This is sad as hell and harmful to the league, to the basketball as a discipline and most importantly it is highly disrespectful towards NBA legends of the 50s and the 60s, who had to deal with racial discrimination back then. Man, those are sad times we live in.
@@psychedelicvault6951 I understand that. I root for nothing black in the NBA. I switch to be a Boston fan when Larry played there and I am for LA. I pull for Asians and Latinos. But no black. But do not ask all the other races to support it or try to shame us in to it. I would not watch a game. I watch Luka and Joker. Soon as they are eliminated off goes the NBA.
Wilt, Olajuwon, Malone, Kareem...and then its Jokic already, I aint putting Shaqs .400 free throw percentage in any top 10 center convo, theres still Issel, Bellamy, Gilmore, Thurmond, Parish, Reed, McAdoo, Howard....all better ballers, Shaq just used his big butt and dunked.
I am disappointed with Shaq. Jokic being the best player in the league rn is pretty much undeniable. SGA was not even the second best because that was Luka
Jokic is THE MOST EFFICIENT PLAYER OF ALL TIME. #1 in PER over MJ & LEBRON!!! But CASUALS see PPGs & averages. As if players dont average 10+ FTs PG😂 Jokic gets pure BUCKETS forces you to play smart.
On top of that if he was treated normally by the NBA and averaged normal amount of free throws for his touches and usage, he would be on top of the scoring lists.
Or here me out here, maybe they just wanted more recognition for the way shai has improved and matured as a player, yes joker is better by far but I think it's just people wanting to root for someone that's not a house hold name.
Shaq will go down as the most under-performing athlete in history; he could have done so much more than what he did. Maybe the most physically gifted player in NBA history with the shittiest work ethic and mind-game. Could have been the GOAT, but that's the way it goes man. Now he's just a bitter old basketball queen.
i'll tell you why i was never on the shai bandwagon for mvp (this season). shai had almost the same numbers and playstyle (albeit with more free throws and foul baiting) than last season... he wasnt the cog that made the OKC improve. the rest of the guys stepped up (jalen williams especially) + chet coming in. Joker kept the nuggets on a top seed trajectory while improving his numbers from last season (where he was robbed from the crybaby)
They hate the man because he plays the game the way they don't like, he's not flashy, and he's not a narcissistic braggart! In today's world, that's a strike out.
As a person who didn't grow up in a place where basketball is a major sport, watching nikola jokic play always amaze me. The awareness of where his teamate, the pass, and the milisecond thinking is crazy, it's just entertaining but also inpiring to see him play 😂
There is a difference between the talking heads on TV, who I think don't actually watch much basketball and the ones who actually do and write about it in detail. The later ones are the ones who usually vote.
@@Jonteponte71 last year those talking heads painted the narative for MONTHS how people are racist if they vote for Jokic to get his 3rd and very much deserved MVP...the fact that there is nobody better and that it would be utter bullshit to give it to anybody else because nobody is puting up the numbers Jokic is putting up and nobody is contributing to a team the way he does...take him off the nuggets and they wont be a top 10 team in the west...
SGA played well. He definitely deserved the recognition he got. People act like if Jokic wasn't Jokic Denver would be fine. Jokic is what makes that team run. Jokic literally defines that team. What it comes down to is just like the top rated comment. He's not black and he's not american. So all the "brothers" can't vote for him. I get so sick of these clowns like SA and Perk out here always making shit about race. They clearly and subtlety make it abundant that's what they are saying. They guilt tripped everyone in 2023 to vote for Embiid and it should have went to Joker.
I'll cut straight to the heart of things. It's because Jokic is white. I'll quote Isiah Thomas that Dennis Rodman echoed his opinion "If Larry Bird was black. He would be a regular good guy in the NBA."
You can’t take a quote from over 30 years ago and apply to what’s going on. It is more about him being a foreign player than he just being white. Giannis doesn’t get the love from the media either. Caitlin Clark’s hype has a lot to do with her being American and white
@peda15 I'll be real w/you. I'm not generalizing, but I have 35 yrs of EXPERIENCE under my belt playing basketball. The truth is whether you wanna accept it or not. Black people (not generalizing) hate losing vs white people in basketball. I've asked white people who have game like myself if they've ever been racially attacked by blacks playing basketball. You know what the most common answer is? Hell yeah. I'm not hearing the bs,man. I've been racially attacked by blacks just because I outplayed them in basketball = Black fragility.
@@peda15but you can apply it to what’s going on. If it was about being foreign then why don’t Giannis, Embiid, Wemby, and Gobert get the same amount of unwarranted hate that Jokic and Luka get? I’m not saying there is no unwarranted hate that go towards the other players I listed above but let’s be real here. Luka and Jokic get the most hate. The NBA is still a predominately black sport and even then you just said at the end that Caitlyn Clark gets hate for being white and American which literally contradicts your whole foreign theory. Let’s just call it what it is. People being racist
There are many reasons why the media won't promote this guy. He's not American, not black, he's not the type of guy who comes off as playing for the love of the game, plays a style different from American basketball and there's definitely the stigma of an American sport being taken over by international players.
Jokic puts up meaningful numbers. No stat padding whatsoever. Unlike SGA, he doesn't stay in blowout games to chase points. His assist numbers even underplay his playmaking since the Nuggets, like all great teams, will make the extra pass to counter rotations. But his touch stat doesn't lie. Highest in the league BY FAR yet lowest usage rate among all MVP candidates. Higher minutes in single digit games, lower minutes in blowouts. He has proven that he can make 50 points but doesn't go out of his way for it. Virtually number one in all advanced stats. All Jokic detractors are just in denial.
@@peda15 are you living under a rock don't you remember last year when it was between jokic & embid for mvp, all the ex nba players were bitter if jokic would've gotten mvp for 3 years in a row, they gave it to embid ( although he & jokic had similar numbers) but the nuggets were a higher seed
