Neuty McNeutface All of it is. BF4 was set in the near future, hence the hover tanks. I’m pretty sure the ‘lore’ was that it was all experimental technology. However having a nazi slaying, cricket bat wielding, disabled women in WW2 is too stupid to make sense. Having an ally force wielding a samurai sword which would have been the enemies weapon considering we were against the Japanese. It’s not just women, it’s the blue face paint, the teddy bear and horse head tank, prosthetic arms and stupid melee weapons. All of that makes for a WW2 game that looks nothing like WW2

BF4 took place in 2020 and I'm pretty sure the final DLC took place years after that as well. It's set on a time that didn't happen so they had a lot more creative freedom. Ironically enough, they should have added females as an option there. And in BF3 even. Hardline too.

Its just the boys brough up on the later games forgetting how FUN and GAMEPLAY was most important. They've been brainwashed by youtubers to hate this perceived SJW agenda all whilel turned to pushing teh AGENDA of these youtube wankers spouting anything from sexist to fuckign alt right crap. And its a shame. HAd ther enot been this push to turn gamers into wankers, we'd all be hyped for BF5, but they're not. Funny thing is, i did some research on disabled folk in WW2.The number of injured folk who carried on fighting on teh frontlines is staggering and after the war would all count as disabled in one way or another. there was even two RAF pilots, one with NO FUCKINg LEGS who even got captured by german soldiers and made several escape attempts, that dude is a legend, and the other pilot who flew his plane perfectly fine with one of those prosthetic arms... So even if you look at history you can find element of that craziness, that complete madness of really diverse folk fighting for the same cause despite things slowing them down, in the end I kinda liked that they included those characters, those mashed up amalgamations in that trailer, as it sort of represented that idea of unity against a common foe regardless of background. Then I foudn teh trailer with teh original battlefield music put over it. Oh man, got hyped for that. I've not been hyped for battelfield in so long!

It looks casual but the changes to gun mechanics make MAKE more skileld based and less casual. Its a stpe toward how arena shooters handle weapons which in an FPS should always have been kept the same to maximise fun and valuable learning experience. RNg guns are just shit. for realism they added rng to the guns but the end result is an experince that doesn't come close to even currant arena shooters. So a step back towards teh old days sounds great to me, could not give a fuck about how its presented.

thejunkface Other than the fact that visual customisation shouldn’t exist in this game. Maybe a helmet with a different marking, or slight different camouflages but very slight. WW2 had uniforms for the forces. Having customisation takes a dump on that detail. Having women takes a dump on the authenticity of how the war that didn’t have women on the frontline in numbers that warrant such a change. If there are Japanese forces in BF5, should they all be Japanese, or should we have black/white non-Asians because customisation is the way forward?

It's immersion breaking. This is suppose to be World War 2... Yet there is a British (not French) woman in the frontline. Not only that, but she's also got a prosthetic arm, which would be something ANY soldier would be sent home for, and is carrying a nailed cricket bat. Then, on a more minor note, there was another person in the trailer with a fucking katana on their back. Not only it is dumb for people to carry it on their backs (Its a longass fucking sword, how are you suppose to pull it out? Grab it by the blade?), but there's also the fact that *literally no one but the Japanese Officers would actually bring a katana to the frontlines*, so there was no fucking reason for that katana to even be there in the first place. There would only be one melee that's historically authentic in WW2, and that's bayonets attached to bolt-action rifles. Anything else is not only inaccurate, but also fucking stupid since it would be dead weight, trying to bash someone with a cricket bat would only result in you either getting stabbed by a bayonet, or fucking shot. Soldiers were already fucking heavy enough, lugging around ammo, food, weapons, and other combat necessities, to the point that they would sink like bricks if they fall into a large body of water. Why would they carry worthless equipment? Answer is. they wouldn't. With these shit so bizarrely out of place in a historic setting, how the fuck would you even have immersion in the first place? Remember, DICE is selling this on being the most immersive and authentic experience. How are they going to deliver that when they gave no fucks about those inaccuracies to the setting they use? Its as bad as putting a fucking samurai in medieval Europe. For context on Japanese Officers carrying katanas into the frontline: It is military law for Japanese Officers follow the Bushido code, or basically the Samurai Code of Honor. They were required by law to bring their katanas, since Bushido forbade samurais from abandoning their sword, or something along those lines. They never actually need to use the sword, just have it on them. TL;DR version, Japanese Officers were required by law to carry a katana because of Samurais.

Kyo Tanaka well I don't think they are trying to sell this as a hyper realistic game like R6 or Arma or insurgency. You bring people back to life, you repair vehicles with a hand tool. You can respawn on squad mates deep in enemy territory. I think all of that would be more of an issue for authentic realism than having a female character. And let's be serious that specific female with the arm is just one one the single player stories. I'm sure the females in multi-player will just be generic models that you won't even notice in the heat of battle.

Lord Daisah Battlefield has always had some degree of fidelity, you can't deny that. Liberties were taken for the sake of GAMEPLAY because this is a game. But no such liberties were taken in the tone of the conflicts that were depicted (especially not WW2) except for Bad Company. It's stupid to tell people not to expect some degree of realism when DICE itself pushed that realism agenda for decades. The FPS genre is on a spectrum you know... There isn't only two categories "Real Simulations Vs. Arcade Fun", evrything in between is possible and for a lot of people Battlefield is the sweet spot between immersion and arcade controls.

I'm ok with "not totally accurate depiction of WW2" because let's face it, war is not fun or epic and probably wouldn't make for a fun game (it could be a terrific experience though). But here you aren't taking liberties to make the game fun, you are taking liberties to pander to a certain audience by bending reality... Sure, artistic liberties can be taken, but you can only go so far until you start creating an alternate history game. Where in the trailer or the pre-trailer communication did they say "Hey guys, his is an alternate WW2 game !" => Nowhere When you hear "DICE is going back to WW2 with its next Battlefield game" you don't hear "DICE is creating an alternate reality WW2 for its next Battlefield game" so people expecting a WW2 shooter from DICE are disappointed. And DICE's terrible communication around the game only made matters worse.

Thank you! I came here to say that. Woman on a battlefield in a war full of historically documentented female spies and resistance fighters (especially among the Dutch)... not realistic. Not having a single weapon that operates like its real world counterpart... so authentic. 😋

Just Google "Women Fighting in WW2" and click on the Images tab so you can see all the pictures of women with rifles, French and Dutch resistance operatives, and company level units of female Russians marching (Soviet women made up as much of 8% of the Russian military with many serving in front line combat). That will give the short answer without having to read any actual history. Alternatively, you can look up Hannie Schaft, Violette Szabo, and Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya on Wikipedia. Did women serve in the capacity depicted in the trailer? No... but the men didn't either because that trailer was ahistorical spectacle. The fact that one of the combatants had a uterous is not the most implausable thing depicted. Frankly, if that is the only immersion-breaking accuracy flaw that someone found, it says more about them than WW2 or the state of the gaming industry.

um...maybe but as you said If women did make up only 8% of Russians army, which by the way was disbanded due to unpopular moral with civilians, that would mean the rest of or a majority of the armies of the world were males by that account mathematically there were like 300 males to every one female. It isnt a problem that they had a uterous its the fact that in WW2 men were the majority of the bodies in the military and we all know this. If Dice had said that this wasn't actual WW2 then they would have been ok instead they didn't. I don't think they did it to piss off fans but as a general misunderstanding but still, at the same time, they should have said something about what it was first before this.
