Why am I so excited to see my name on a little whiteboard? IDK but I AM! I gave up my MM Z06 slot ~ 2200 because 1) I don’t think the C8 will stay in production long enough for my number to come up and 2) I have a low number at MM for an ERay. I WAS thinking about specifying CF wheels for it. I wasn’t sure if you were an EE or a Comp Sci guy. That’s resolved now. Alaska, right! Wife and I did almost that same trip. Life changing. You are making great progress on the Lemons car. Finally, your enthusiasm for this video is palpable. Welcome back!

I did the same math and came to the same conclusion, I didn’t want to wait three years. Started watching BAT and found a new C06 convertible with no Z07 package, I wanted 4S tires not cups tires because I don’t track and 4S have two to three times tread life meaning I am not worrying about my carbon wheels for a couple of years, hopefully problem solved. Had to pay over list😢 still cheaper than my 992 Turbo S and enjoy the C06 as much if not more. Glad you are enjoying life, miss your old schedule.

Agreed on the Carbon Fiber Wheels! I don’t know why anyone would want them for the Expense and Damage that almost certainly will occur. Practicality Wise, unless you’re going to have a Museum Piece or Static Display, I don’t know why anyone would order them for the C8 ZO6/Z0Z!!! You need another complete set of Wheels and Tires Dude! Forget about the time of a second or two you’ll drop as an occasional Track Performance Session. Then the tires, so who has deep pockets to buy a Set of Cups after 2-3 Track Sessions. Besides tires there are other added expenses than tires alone. Mounting & Balancing fees, insurance fee possibly, alignment, finding a dealership willing to do the work, etc… Yes, Check Out What Speed Phenom has gone through. If I decide to get a ZO6 or an ERAY, no way will I go for the Carbon Fiber Wheels. I see that Street Speed just picked up a ZO6/ZO7 for his channel. Probably will see a lot of content relative to his issues. He’s going to do a lot of mods I think, because he’s beyond a 6 month ownership as a second owner. In another direction: I had a 2012 Cruise to Alaska (didn’t do the Land Tour). Unfortunately, I started out the day we had to drive to Pittsburgh to catch out plane with a Kidney Stone. Took some heavy medication and made the flight to Vancouver. On the ship, I had a few days under the weather and on mid-cruise I passed the stone. Missed out on the Dog Camp and a Float Plane Flight. Glad I missed the flight, because the Return Trip was by River Boat. Bad weather kept the plane grounded. The boat trip was really rough and a lot people got sick. Alaska, everyone has a boat or a plane to get around. Probably would not be a place most people would set up as to their retirement or maybe even a Time Share. Thanks for the Great Update. I don’t know if people has any comprehension as to the amount of time that goes into production. It’s more than taking a camera and shooting content. Also, you’re probably overwhelmed in responding to comments. I’ve noticed some channels I follow, are shortening their responses or just give an agreed or Thumbs Up, a 100…. Something to also consider as it takes time to handle that I’m sure!!! Doug 😊

Glad to see you back . Imagine the issues Chevy could have with Eray service ( almost all new platform ) with dealerships when the tire issue should have been thought about on the Z06 during the development stage . Have a great 4th !

I almost bought a Z06 with Z07 package and CF wheels but it was over my budget so at the end I finished buying a Z06 HTC anniversary edition Lucky me Now I'm feeling better after watching your video thanks

Hi Fred...Just found this. I have seen much of Austin's videos about the CF wheel issues. I recall there is a metal ring that fits inside the hub to keep the cone from contacting the wheel edge in that area. What gets me is all of what Austin discovered is known to Chevy. They provide cars with tires mounted on those wheels with no damage. They should have created a special manual describing what is necessary to perform this operation and should have developed a list of places that can assist with this or made a few Chevy dealers capable of performing tire changes in maybe larger communities. Beyond this, I see the potential for potholes not being your friend. I too see the handwriting on the wall for the reality of getting a Z06 at MSRP. I just got a call about one sitting on the floor if I liked white with a red/black interior and $75,000 over MSRP. Think I will pass on the E-Ray at the cost. Anxious about the ZR1...wondering if it will really have turbos. They haven't yet fixed the ticking of several of the LT6 engines yet they are coming out with a LT7?

It’s good to see a new video, glad you’ve been busy enjoying the toys in your toy box. I need to add my 2 cents, So are you saying that GM has wheels on a Corvette that get damaged, they have no solution and take no responsibility? As a C7 Z owner, that’s all too familiar. I hope you haven’t suffered a similar fate with you Grand Sport, it’s incredibly frustrating. Glad things are going well, and appreciate the update.

Fred, Great seeing you posting a video. I have been following Austin's trials & tribulations. Quite candidly I am not sure that going with the CF wheels & Cup 2 R tires is worth the probable hassle. I would never take my car to the chevy dealer here anyway. When I had my C5R-427 I had the dealer switch out the break pads to the track pads just before going to Road Atlanta. On the back straight away as I braked (at ~160 mph) to go into turn 10A, which is a 90° left, I had partial brake failure. I pulled off the track and the dealer had screwed up. Fortunately one of the other C5R-427 drivers had his crew there and they fixed the brakes. I am currently 75 at MM but on hold due to Z07 restrictions. I want the Z07, but I prefer forged wheels, which I cannot get with the Z07. So not sure what I will do. Take Care! Sully

For one thing Chevrolet dealerships that sale and service the new C8 ZO6 should have been sent a memo from GM saying that the ZO6 with the carbon fiber wheels can not be service by the standard tire service machine and if they had , had no place trying to risk put their customers carbon fiber rims at risk for damage knowing that they had to purchase a new tire changing machine at a cost of $55,000 as to not damage the $5000 per carbon fiber wheels on the ZO6.

hows your build going? Update?

Hi Fred any idea about the latest with the LT6 ticking noise? Is it still being investigated? Or have they found a fix for it? Is it just on a small % of LT6 or do most of them have the engine problem? A friend’s allocation is coming up and I am worried since it’s way over his budget and if he gets the ticking problem then it would be a disaster for him. Should I tell him to wait a few months to see how GM handles the problem or it's not a big problem? Thanks for your help.

Z06 tires and alignment. The cars leave the factory aligned for track. This means they are cantered in for handling. This also means poor wear. If you plan on not going to the track have the dealer realign the car for NORMAL wear. This is better for drag strip and normal driving.

Buy Forgeline Wheels. Slightly heavier but you can drive your car. It’s difficult for Discount Tire to mount C7 ZO6 wheels. Clowns everywhere!

The C8 & Z06 would be a MUCH BETTER car withOUT Runflat Tires

Many Chevy dealers, including one in the middle of a cornfield in IA, publicly called into question the veracity of Austin's claims about being unable to find a Chevy dealer to install his tires. Additionally, every Corvette Signature Dealer with whom I have spoken has the necessary equipment to work on carbon fiber wheels. It is part of what earns them that certification. Paragon Performance has an excellent video showing how easy it is to mount them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tr4GAz15ofI.html Surprisingly, I have heard numerous Corvette-centric channels and sites share Austin's woes, but none, not even CorvetteBlogger, have covered the responses from various dealers. I imagine the forums are the same way. Were the other dealers to which he reached out covering for the incompetence of the dealer that messed up his wheels? Possibly. So there is no reason to worry about these wheels if you take them to a qualified dealer. And there are hundreds of them across this great country.

I was in the mid 300's at Ciocca. Call me insane but I literally had just had it with all the delays and production drama over this car. My enthusiasm just plummeted to nothing. I requested and received my deposit back a couple weeks ago with no regrets. The car will soon be old news. Plus all this waiting around gave me the time to realize how silly it is to spend 125k msrp on a 2LZ convertible.
