I think Raid is also taking advantage of people who get demonetized a lot. I have rarely seen a Raid sponsor on channels that get monetized.

I have a theory. One time I saw a spike in youtubers doing a "joke" sponsorship of raid, where they start to say it, then show a pic, then cut to something different, it's edgy. But I think Raid's publisher actually paid for those little "joke" mentions. there was like 6 of these Raid "joke" sponsorships in a week. they were all blatantly obvious, and the same format. it actually made me more mad than a full-on raid sponsorship

As someone who played the game for around 7 months and spent around $100 during that time, I would say you're absolutely correct on everything you've brought up. I don't harbor any grudge against the game, but while it is playable with little to no monetary investment, it's very clear that the game is meant to attract and engage gamblers first and foremost. The way the developers resisted adding any kind of stable forms of rewards or progression made this very clear. The people at the top of the corporate ladder can only be described as the scum of the Earth, and a pox on humanity. Thanks for making the video, I always thought that gaming RU-vidrs would be interested in the subject.

Although not quite as aggressive as RAID: casino legends, I feel that "Coin master" is a close second.

here's the thing: I'm actually super okay with casino style/gambling games, so long as they are adequately regulated and are required to disclose the nature of their business. If I want to waste my hard earned money on a shitty game, that's my right as a gamer, but it's also my right as a citizen to know which games are virtual casinos and which aren't.

Not being able to cash out is literally saying “we’ll exploit children and take all of their money without them ever getting anything tangible in return.” What they get for their money? A digital item or “reward” that has no value and costs the casino company nothing to give out.

what if you had a casino room in your house, their ads would be on tv or on your phone/tablet/computer. they wouldn't directly try to pull you in. They just exist in your house. The difference with a casino is that they don't let you win anything, they just give you a sticker pack which is only viewable inside the room. That's your phone and mobile gaming.

Damn, this needs to go viral, this is vital information. Also, I still maintain the belief that Internet Historian's ads were the best thing to come out from this game.

Seeing the name "aristocrat" honestly triggers me. I live and work in NV, and for a very short time, I worked for a chain of slot machine casinos (where aristocrat is a major player). Slot machines, by the way, are the number one source of gambling revenue for the state, and it isn't close. To give credit where it's due, I signed I and my family up for healthcare benefits on day one, so that was nice, and I need to mention it, but *nothing* else about the job was good. I didn't make enough money to pay the bills, it was so, so very bad. And that's not a millennial snowflake way of describing it like "I don't have enough money for avocado toast and $25 acai bowls for breakfast", but an actual "these paychecks are not large enough to pay the bills we have".

I'm so blown away by the richness of the information in this video. I actually didn't know Aristocrat acquired Plarium. No wonder it had one of the most stable and promising growths pre the 2020 crisis. When I first saw its name on ASX, I was asking how come an Aussie casino company gets such a growth in recent years. That combination of mobile gaming and gambling is just utter brilliance. I'm wordless.

It makes me sad as a developer myself: I have lots of cool ideas for genuinely interesting and fun games that use the nature of mobile to become more fun and interesting than if they were on pc/console. But I *know* no matter how good I make such a game, the name has been tainted so heavily it *cannot* do well. I know because Ive found a handful of actually good games on mobile stores (note, like, 0.000001% of games available, but the point is they DO exist) and theyre never talked about, never shared, never played. It's a damn shame. The market in *theory* could breed all kinds of creative new games, whole new genres. But no, we just get zynga reincarnated over and over and over again. And that's a damn shame.

If you've ever played a single of Plarium's other games, it's really easy to discern the game's corrupt nature. Plarium is notorious for the mechanics used in Raid, they were one of the very earliest pioneers in the field of the city-building "Wait or Pay" game style that is now so popular - most notably, Travian. When I say earliest, I'm talking early-mid 2000s, like you could see the crust on the jpg that was your "city" with a web interface overlay for the building buttons.

EDITS: GRAMMAR FIXES and a few additions Something more interesting that I think people need to take into account is the method by which mobile gaming goes about its advertisements is very akin to early advertisement on the Internet circa 2000 to 2008. For some of the younger zoomer people this was the era of Congratulations, You Won - Back before the Internet got sterilized and cleaned up by corporations, we were always taught to avoid clicking on suspicious links, and advertisers of the day usually went out of their way to be as invasive as possible. They used to take the form of popups that could not be exited without opening task manager. Often, they would incorporate impossible to stop sound, long before "tabs" showed you where the noise was coming from. In addition, this was the era of "Shocksites" - it was not uncommon for people to disguise links to things like 2 Girls 1 Cup or Pain Olympics in e-greeting cards and emails. For people like me who spent their adolescence pirating music during this time with things like Limewire, I would like to stress that file sharing in this era was like having unprotected sex with a South Bronx hooker - There was a not insignificant chance that your computer could get something extremely deadly to the point of it getting bricked. (Or good god forbid, something illegal like Cheese Pizza) But It's not just the mobile gaming ads of today - the hostility carried over across generations, for Millenial to Z - advertisements in general that are treated with extreme suspicion because the last 20 years before the Internet got cleaned up was very much a wash with cold war style paranoia that any missed click could body your machine. Personal experience; I got an ad once while doing research on my mom's computer for a school project, (No, it honestly WASN'T porn, I had my own computer for that) and, on my way to shut it off, my new kitten walked over my hand, making me click the thing. WHAM. Boot sector virus. Unless you do extensive jailbreaking on a mobile device you're not going to be able to get the level of ad blocking potential that your desktop or laptop will by merely installing an extension on your browser. This is why the mobile market is so bad, because there is no effective way to stop the flow of advertisement. Yet it goes far deeper than that considering how openly fraudulent the mobile market actually is. Remember when people used to make memes about mafia city? All jokes aside who here knows that they openly and blatantly stole Sam Fisher's model from splinter cell? Why have to this day they not gotten in legal trouble with Ubisoft about it? In addition to the games just being terrible and the advertisement being fraudulent you must understand that the 3rd issue at play is a 20 year culture of being extremely suspicious about ads and more importantly having to actively fight against them. We hated ads for how aggressive and destructive they were THEN, and they ask us why TO THIS DAY we don't trust them?

Thank you for the enlightening research. I was researching this topic for a while now, but saw things I didn't know at all. I always make it a thing to bring attention to RAID and games like it in the comments of popular youtubers that become sponsored by them. I figured out Polaris out to the point of finding out they were owned by Aristocrat, but and that it would lead to unregulated gambling with no payout to the consumer. Great coverage... the sas part is games like raid are avoidable but games like Madden have a deathgrip on exclusove rights to the NFL meaning its Madden or nothing and this is how these games keep getring made.
