Thank you, that explains why the roots are exposed on top of my fiddle leaf plant, I guess I better get busy repotting.

Hi Claire, can you tell me how long does it take for a fiddle to grow new leaves?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Год назад
Hi Mary! Sometimes new growth can happen quickly! If you have recently repotted, the plant will focus its energy on growing the root system to accommodate the larger sized pot then you'll find new growth happen after. But if you plant has the right water, nutrition, and light, it should continue to grow leaves all throughout the year!

Hello! I’m seeing what I’m thinking are exposed roots so I’ve been trying to figure out if this is the time I should think about repotting, but my fiddle leaf is actually growing really well. Two new leaves just this past couple weeks! So I’m not sure what to do. If my plant is growing well, but has some exposed roots what would you say is the best course of action?

Sounds like you have a happy plant! Exposed roots are fine as aerial roots bring moisture and oxygen down into the root system. It is when you have roots wrapping around the inner edge of the pot and growing out the bottom that it would be time to go up a pot size. Happy growing!

Hi Claire I am rooting some new figs. One of my newbies has lost all its leaves, but I can see the little roots starting. Will it survive this way?

Yes, if the stem/stalk is producing roots, it can certainly grow into a plant when placed in soil once multiple long roots have formed. Happy Growing!

Hi! I was hoping you could help me with my fiddle leaf fig. My fig was showing signs of root rot so I repotted it, rinsed the roots, changed the soil, everything. I waited to water it for a couple of days until it started to droop. It’s been 3 days, it’s still not showing any signs of recovery and a few leaves fell off and the entire plant is lighting up in color. Please help, any advice will be appreciated!

It most likely is in shock. When you repot it's important not to disturb the root system and just cut away any dark and mushy roots and repot into a pot with lots of drainage holes at the bottom. Place it directly in front of and up against your brightest window to help it recover. It will bounce back!

So every year you get a pot 2-4” bigger? That doesn’t seem sustainable. At some point do you stop?

If you don't want your plant to continue to grow taller, you can keep it in the same sized pot and just redress the soil when the soil medium gets low.

I've heard not to top cover roots once they've made their way to the top of the soil, as it will hurt the plant. I recently repotted and want to cover those roots but am worried it will suffocate it as I've been told. Do you know if this is true or myth?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 5 месяцев назад
Great question! This is true, you do not want to cover the aerial roots with rocks, moss, or any other decorative items. These roots serve as a way to bring oxygen and moisture down into the root system. Any covering on top of the soil will also hold in too much moisture. Happy Growing!

@FiddleLeafFigPlant thank you. I wish I would've added more soil instead of letting them pop out so much before repotting because they're not very esthetically pleasing 😉 large loud and proud! I guess once they've been out from the soil, they've adapted to grabbing oxygen etc from the outdoors of the pot rather than the soil. A good plan going forward, will add soil as it compacts down and the fill depletes. I don't care for the aerial roots too much. Thank you!

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant when I started growing my FLF, I bought three of your products from Amazon. The leaf armour spray, the plant food, rooting and propagation stuff. And the pebbles that you add at the bottom of the containers to avoid root rot. I just want to get the soil mix which I can't find on Amazon 😌. What a shame 😔

Hi, I'm having a heartbreaking problem with my Fiddle Leaf. It's about 12 ft tall, was doing great till one day at the top, the new growth was a small little leaf, so i snapped it off, hoping a large regular leaf would grow, but I was wrong. Another small leaf is coming out of the top, and I've left it. Now what?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant

Good question, is it a new leaf or a new branch forming? Leaves will begin to grow out small and get larger over time. For more support, please join and post some photos inside our helpful fiddle leaf fig community! fiddleleaffigplant.com/community
