Let me guess…you were born in early 70’s.? I love allot of 80’s music, but I wouldn’t call it the most diverse decade…..70’s an 90’s were pretty damn diverse.
Steelheart was 90's actually. That's why they didn't really take off. By the time this song charted in 1990, grunge and alternative rock were literally on the cusp of taking over the music world. Smells Like Teen Spirit was released barely a year after this song came out.
@@helenespaulding7562 The OP never even said "most diverse". I was born in the early 80s, so I missed most of it. Yet that decade has become my favorite.
Miljenko Matijevic is the epitome of vocals!! I'm 54 years old, and many, many vocalists have blessed my ears, mind, and ❤, and Miljenko has earned his place in my life's soundtrack.
Spandex also doubled as a nut grabbing, high note hitting accessory. Ha! He had it without needing spandex tho! Great era and a great song of the times!
If you should ever watch the 2001 movie Rock Star, staring Mark Wahlberg, this singer (Miljenko Matijevic) is the one who does Wahlberg's singing voice. The "band" Wahlberg ends up singing for is made up of Jason Bonham, son of the drummer from Led Zeppelin on drums, Jeff Pilson formally of Dokken, now with Foreigner on bass, and Zakk Wylde of Ozzy Osburn fame on guitar. It's a silly little movie, but it's fun.
This guy's voice is like a laser beam- pure, focused, and powerful. Every single time I hear this song I am impressed and awed. SO glad you got around to this one, and I am so glad you liked it!!
He would blow your hair back with his voice!! This song also gives me the goosies when I hear it. Never will tire of hearing this song. Thanks for the reaction.
Mili stills sings really good. He can still hit those notes but has lost the ability to sustain them but he still sings better than most singers who are in their prime ! He does not use falsetto... He used Straight up power ! Listen to a live recording from that era. This was not recording tricks. He sang those songs live just like the album !!! Also Mili was the voice behind Mark Wahlberg in the movie Rock Star...
I saw Steelheart live in concert back in the 90's and let me tell you, the lead singer sounds even better live. He hit every note and then some! He never went off key and the band put on an amazing show. The vocals were insane! It was if his vocals got stronger and stronger as the concert went on. He sounded even better during the last song of the encore...
I have been a ballroom dance instructor, for 26 years and actually choreographed the song a few times for the people who wanted to use it, powerful voice beautiful ballad
Drummer here :) - those are actually single headed bass drums mounted way up high - a somewhat common thing back in the late 80s and early 90s. You also may notice he's set up for left handed playing - the toms go from small to large left to right instead of right to left . RIP John Fowler and the drums from the Grand Canyon....
To tell you the level of difficulty this song is, I'm a high voiced woman, and the notes make ME sweat, lol! So happy ya'll finally reacted to this particular song! Thank you!
“He pierced the Heavens “ Amber? Best… description… ever!!! And this was our wedding song!! First dance! Yeah, it was awesome and emotional. Both of us were crying lol
Oh man!!! Congratulations from Argentina, buenos Aires!!! I'm sure you are a unique couple!!! You touched my heart with your words....big hug for you buddy
Saw them in Detroit when this song came out back in the day and you are right Amber....He bent back 180 degrees to hit that last note live and it was flawless...the crowd went nuts!!!
I interviewed Mike (the name I knew him by) and he said he was driving down the highway when the song "Angel Eyes" by Jeff Healey came on the radio. He said he was so up set, he had to pull over and calm down. Hence the name for this song is "I'll Never Let You Go (Angels Eyes)". Songs had to have a unique title back then. I also asked him how many Octaves he had, but I forgot his answer!! but it was more than 5. He can go crazy low and easily hit an E5.
Brings back so many memories! Blessed to have grown up in late 70's-80s. Almost 50 and will be a hair band junkie 4ever!! Would love to see you react to WINGER..HEADED FOR A HEARTBREAK/MILES AWAY.
One of my all-time faves! These guys are rockers! Would LOVE to hear MY personal favorite ballad of all hits Saigon Kick with "Love Is On The Way". Great guitar and some dang "Dust In The Wind" type harmonies! Can't wait!
I absolutely love watching reactions to this absolutely powerhouse rock ballad! Especially when he blasts off into the stratosphere with that amazing range! You guys did not disappoint 😂 Miljenko has a true god given talent with a heart to match and can still hit those notes! Sadly, the drummer, John Fowler passed away in 2008 from a brain aneurysm 😢 He was definitely a great drummer and very entertaining. Watch a few more of their videos! ❤
Man, this lead singer’s voice sounds like an Angel!!! Not of this world- like straight from Heaven!! Only a true gift from God can be this talented!!💗🙏🏼
❤❤❤❤ When my fiance passed away I wrote the words to this song on paper and placed it in the coffin with him, along with the words to the song "Thank You" by Led Zepplin. Thank you for reacting to this song. It's just so meaningful to me. Please do "Thank You" too soon!!
I saw Tom Keifer band a little over a year ago. I can’t believe how good he was still sounding pretty good especially after all those vocal chord surgeries he’s had to have. I have like 4 videos from the show on my channel. I think they should review CINDERELLA if they liked Steel Heart song
@@MaryDavidson911 During one the concerts the track lighting fell and landed on him. Hit in the back of the head he had difficulties singin high after that
@@andreadeamon6419 for sure. I was wondering if the drummer didn't wee what happened or was thinking 'the show must go on'. there were a couple of really pi$$ed of people though.
Good to see you all finally react to this song. I've had thoughts that you all would love this one. That voice is not easily matched in any music genre. Man could hit notes not many men can.
I have been waiting for you guys to do this one. Danced with my wife as Seniors in HS and then at our wedding. 25 years this year. And the lead singer can still hit those notes!
Oh wow y'all. I knew y'all would absolutley love this song and the lead singer!!!! I love that y'all are reacting to these amazing songs and opening them up to the younger generations. Keep smiling and keep believing 🙏✌️😉💞
I've been waiting for you guys to react to this song for a long time. It is always great to see that first reaction to his first high note lol Miljenko Matijevic has chops!
One of the greatest 80s Hair Band songs and vocals. When he was younger, he could hit those notes, now older, the song is structured differently, but still good.
It's sad what happened to his voice. But I think he can still do a really good scream, I'm pretty sure I've seen a recent video of him doing it :) Favorite singer of all time for me
YES!!!! I have been waiting for this one!!! I absolutely LOVE this song!!! His voice is so freaking AWESOME!!!! I still listen to this song today!!! Thank you so much, loved your reactions!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Me, too!! Been waiting for it. My notification came while I was in the middle of an eight hour drive! I bet nearly pulled over to watch it right then! But no one else in the car would’ve appreciated it!
SAME!!! I suggested they react to this one months ago and have been anticipating this ever since!! Knowing the notes that were coming up, I was just glued to their faces...waiting for the open mouth gape :-)
Two good friends of mine were roommates with the lead singer, Mike. I had a chance to meet him at the apartment in Greenwich, CT, and he did a 12-string acoustic version of this song in the living room. Really nice guy and a huge talent.
This was really awesome. I recommended this song a few months back and I'm so glad you got to it because it really is a great song and his voice is amazing. One band that I'm really surprised that you don't have on here is Survivor. The lead singer has one of the best voices of the 80's. If I was to pick one that you would really like it would be "The search is over" or even "I can't hold back" either song is great. Thanks for this, it definitely made me smile to see your reaction.
Thank yall for finally reacting to this great love song! I couldn't wait for yall to react to this song. I've been watching and waiting. I was thinking....if they could just take a few minutes out of their day to watch this video...his voice would not only surprise them but, definitely impress them and make them smile. THANK YALL for doing this and posting this. Just seeing this made my day! Much love yall! 👊👍
Similar, but Gritier and more Metal, is Skid Row " Quicksand Jesus" (official video.) Power ballad With over the top Vocals from the Fantastic SEBASTIAN BACH , and those BOOMING DRUMS It Will Roll you.. also QUEENSRYCHE "Take Hold of the Flame" (Live in In Japan '84) has another incredible Vocalist, Geoff Tate, going insane on Vocals. Cheers Folks !
When the vocals started he gave his wife the look ;) lol. This is a great song for any guy to play for his girl, wife, love interest, or whatever they're called lol. Love the review, definitely a POWER ballad for sure. The fact Milijenko can still bang this song out very well in his late 50s is a testament to his dedication and wellness. RIP to the original drummer John Fowler who passed away too early, in his 40s...
One of the last hair metal hits from the Summer of 1991. A few months later Nirvana and grunge/alternative took over and overnight bands like Steelheart were instantly obsolete.
@@lesliebolick2407 Saigon Kick, Ugly Kid Joe and Jackyl somehow were able to have hits and Wayne's World was a hit movie in late 1991 and early 1992 but it pretty much over by then. It reminded me of when Disco died in 1979. Overnight it was over but Funky Town was a hit in 1980.
More grunge and rap imo. The industry discovered they could get far less talent for far less money, plug money into marketing, and sell it. And they did. There's actually been studies done on the objective loss of talent that hit the music world right around 1990. In 1989 we all thought the 90's were going to be unbelievable...instead, the exact opposite happened.
I’m 52 years old. I’ve seen over 200 bands. Hands DOWN, Miljenko has the BEST VOICE in rock. His range is UNMATCHED!! And YES, he sounds JUST LIKE THIS live!!
I would love for you to revisit Skid Row. When you listened to “I remember you” I don’t think you were fully appreciating the rock genre yet. “Youth gone wild” is my other suggestion. It’s the Gen X anthem 🤘🏼
Pulling into the Wawa today listening to this song thinking how cool would it be if yous heard this. I come home and watch you...sure nuff. Didn't disappoint. I love yous. I'm subscribing RIGHT NOW!!!!
Played it at my wedding in 1992!! Both of our families thought we lost our minds...then fell out after the last note!!! I lost my wife in 2017 and listen to this to relive our wedding day and thank God for the time we had together. Much love and thanks for checking out my favorite song!!
"I'll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes)" peaked @ #23 on the Billboard Pop Hot 100 chart in 1991. Their next single was "She's Gone (Lady)" which peaked @ #59 in 1991 also. That was it.
Yay!! so happy you are doing Steelheart, Love this band and they were so underrated in my opinion Miljenko Matijevic the lead singer of this group is a beast with his vocals. He still sings and hits those high notes.
This heavy metal ballad is still a big-time banger ‼️ A Rock and Roll wedding reception song for sure. His ear bleeding, eye bulging, jaw-dropping vocal register is not from this world.
Imagine if Miljenko and all the other amazing massively talented rock lead singers never found music in their lives. A tragedy that would be. What a gift to be able to give this world such incredible singing voices.
The drumming is amazing his voice is amazing! This is what it was like growing up in the 80’s. This is also why you should check out April Wines-She’s a roller and see how many lead guitarist in this band.
Love my 80s music. Still rockin my long hair at nearly 53 lol. Altho Steelheart never got as big as bands like Poison an Whitesnake. That voice is arguably the strongest of all back then. mayb even still.
It's so crazy because after watching your Poison reaction, this happens every time you do an 80s band, I get nostalgic and listen to other bands I loved from then. This is one of the songs I played and was thinking this would be a great song for you guys to hear. Well, done. Another great voice, band and very glam you need to see is Cinderella - Shake Me.
That's the other song I was thinking of with singers who go high at the end! I think it held (holds?) a record for longest-sustained and highest note at the end of a song.
We used this as our couples dance at our wedding in 1993. Got a lot of weird looks but a lot of people also liked it. My mom still reminds me of my terrible choice of 'that screaming song'. I love it!!
I'm just getting ready to watch this. Love this band and sing. I can't wait to see your reactions. I'll comment afterwards...OK. Loved it. Can someone let me know if they filmed this in Bodie Park/Desert? It was where Cinderella did Don't Know What You Got Til It's Gone.. Thank you both for another wonderful reaction.🙂😍
Every time I see the band name Steelheart, it always makes me think of the greatest hair metal parody band, Steel Panther. You guys should check them out...only when the kiddos are not around. They are actually pretty talented but just used their talents to make us laugh. A little less naughty(except maybe their song Big Bottoms) is the band formed for a music "documentary"(the first of many mockumentaries), Spinal Tap. Whenever you get into the musical parody game, of course you have to check out the king of parodies, Weird Al. On the country parody side there is Ray Stephens, Pinkard & Bowden, then the country naughty parody artist(again, make sure the kiddos are away) Wheller Walker, Jr.
Whenever I think about range, Chris Cornell always comes to mind for me. The Day I Tried to Live, Rusty Cage, Fell On Black Days, Spoonman, Jesus Christ Pose, Birth Ritual, Hands All Over, Cochise, I Am the Highway, and so many more!!!
