Back in 2018 I bought six glass water containers with sleeves and little loops to carry them. I’ve given a couple away as gifts, I’ve broken a couple by leaving them in my car when they freeze I’ve dropped a few but the sleeves kept them from breaking. But yeah, the glass water jugs I bought in 2018, I still have at least two. And when I drink out of glass I know I’m not going to get lead poisoning or forever chemicals in my body because of it

The disabled girl getting her water bottle stolen at school by another kid is genuinely heartbreaking. It probably took her mom forever to find a water bottle that suited her daughter’s needs, only for it to get stolen by another kid who probably knew that she was intellectually disabled and decided to exploit that for her own gain.

The thrift became gentrified due to the same people who hoard Stanley cups. When it became trendy, which is bizarre to me because i was bullied for wearing second hand... They started to buy "vintage" and brand name, and they started advertising all over social media about how much money they made selling these thrifted items on ebay, depop, etsy ect And the companies saw it all. Due to them. Price increases are due partly because of influencers advertising that they make money from it. I was lucky to get some thrifted addidas as a child. Good luck now due to the resellers

At 53, I now feel weird bc I figure ppl may think I've actually spent hard-earned $ on my lips, yet I would NEVER inject crap into my face! Dude my biggest flex in life will be that I never bought a Stanley cup! It was never pretty looking to me, which is fine people can like different things... But what wasn't fine was when kids started getting BULLIES for not having that cup... That's when I chose to make fun of those people, as a kid that grew up extremely poor it actually made me cry that these babies were bullied for not having like 80 bucks for a cup... Even though I'm 26 now and I only work a part time job because I'm doing university too, I still have a couple thousand euros saved up and since I never spend money on anything for myself, I would be able to buy it, but in my mind I'm still poor so I was like hell nah... I used to never ask my parents for more than one snack that was like 30 cents (Converted from the Serbian the Currency into dollars) 2 a month when we went grocery shopping, because I knew how poor we were and I never wanted to make my parents feel bad for not having more money, because they still gave me everything I needed and my childhood was still beautiful.... So I can't imagine how fucking hard it must be to get BULLIED because your family isn't privileged enough..

On the other hand, I was watching a video where the mom was picking up the kids from school with their ponies to ride home, and someone in the comments said that she would never do that. Do you know why? Because she was already being bullied at school for being a rich kid. 🤦‍♂ I think I was very lucky in school. People brought in new things - fancy pens, new sneakers (velcro was now coming in - that's how old I am. lol) and I felt bad because I didn't have those things. I wouldn't dare ask my parents to spend money like that (we weren't poor. middle class. but my mom always told us to be diligent with saving money). I would like to share a lesson from my psychology teacher on trends that explains why they are so ephemeral. Throughout history the nobility has always tried to distinguish itself from the plebs to create a sense of superiority. The plebs, wanting to be part of that elite, try to copy them. Unfortunately once everyone has that distinctive trait there is no way to distinguish the nobility and it changes again. She gave us the example of how once poor houses didn't have living rooms because they were useless but then the bourgeois wanting to copy the nobles made them enter all the houses. After Christmas everyone had a Stenly and so it lost its distinctive trait. And thanks to consumerism this circle will become increasingly narrower until these trends last even a few weeks if not days.

Sebastian has a point. I guess this time around it is the "influencers" on tik tok who are playing the role of the "nobles." Or maybe that entire theory needs to be revised. I remember reading in one of the Little House on the Prairie books, Laura's mom was making new dresses for the blind sister who was going to college. She was trying to source a recent edition of some Lady's book from the neighbors so she could find out what was the latest fashion. But how did the magazine ever decide what was the latest fashion? Probably just scramble up some random thing to fill the pages. lol. Ironically, the dining room in my house has little function as a dining room. It would actually be better if we just had the table alone because that is the only part of the set that we use. Eating happens either in the porch, the living room or a bedroom.

18:21 Pffft. I've done that for so long with regular cups. How is this genius or special? I always thought it was weird that I did it but useful, but I never thought of it as something monumental or important to talk about??

I got a Stanley for Christmas, and I honestly like it. I'm not one to be a HUGE trend follower, but I liked the bright colors they came in. It keeps my water freezing cold and I can use it easily at bed when I get that 3 am thirst for freezing cold water. I'm going to be using mine long after the "trend" ends 😁

13:30 wait, what’s wrong with decorating your cups? i think it’s pretty convenient to have a multi-use bottle

Because adding plushies and accessories on the side handle makes it worthless compared to a plastic bottle.

ikr, i have a some medical conditions that make me extremely susceptible to dehydration but i also experience a lot of brain fog and having a way to put my keychain on my water bottle will make me remember to bring it with me and would actually really help me

I have to say i agreed with mostly everything she said up till 13:36 . As someone who has traveled a lot, it's ideal to have that cup holder. When at the airport you can't bring out side drinks through security so most people like my self bring an empty water bottle to refill once you get past security and have 2 hours to wait till your flight. Pluse the convince of the cup holder is that when flying you can only fit so much in that bag/suitcase and you dont want to be opened and closing that bag 100 time geting your bottle and having it take up space that you could use for other things in you bag. Another thing is that air ports are crazy expensive for there food and drinks so to have something you can refill for free helps a lot. And also its a cup if the owner wants to personalize it they can do as they like. In the end it a cup and thats all.

I'm imagining the Stanley shareholders being like: 😬 We're gonna have a record year again, right guys? Right? Jokes aside, trends like these must be nightmare for any business. It's uncontrollable and unpredictable. One day you're ramping up production as much as you can to keep shelves stocked when you don't even understand the sudden fixation, the next day absolutely nobody wants your stuff and sales come to a standstill while the production facilities are still running. Insanity.
@dudono1744

In that case you don't ramp up production to maximum capacity instantly I think.

you think thats bad? being a company in a world where consolidating wealth is incentivized over spreading it, means you are permanently in a situation where you will have less and less disposable income available to purchase anything. aka a perpetual loss situation. but hey, our system demands all wealth get reconsolidated back into the hands of monarchs, so we have to do that lmfao

@petthequeenofmaddness8592 3 месяца назад
@@dudono1744 they don't know how long the trend will last, if you make too many they go to waste/storage or sold for less but that makes or other products look "cheap", on the other hand if you don't make/have enough you get scammers/scalpers who then resell as many as they can for an insane mark up you also have people who will go to far as the will fight each other over the product and that makes the company look bad

The only valid point in this video, that didnt come form Haylo was the 13:54 trip video. I mean, you do have to have water avalible at the airport? I think that one was actually pretty neat, I travel a lot and carrying waterbottles at the airport isnt very fun, so I'm with the OP on that one-

In my opinion they fell off partly because everyone has it now. It was only popular because of its “exclusivity” . From what I’ve seen once everyone has something it no longer is cool because it’s so common .

Normally I agree with your takes... but the flower thing is pretty normal. i used to work in a florist shop and a sizable portion of the price is for the vase/vessel. Its a combination gift, you get the boquet and then you have the cup. No different than a nice vase or a cute basket. Same concept as those succulents that come in cute little mugs.

yeah same. and i honestly think the cute accessories are okay on the cups as well, as long as theyre not constantly consuming for no reason. if you will continue to use your stanley and you really do bring it everywhere, then why not put keychains on it? id love to decorate my water bottle with keychains cus i love my water bottle

Reminds me of tickle me Elmo toy. They were sold out for Christmas and people went nuts. My friend months earlier bought Elmo for my son. She called me a few days before Christmas that people were offering up to 1000. She asked me if I want the toy or the money. We got 1050. And took our kids to an amusement park and let them go crazy. Fads are an expensive thing to get caught up in.
