TikTok's "Amazon Must-Haves" Are Ridiculous

I think what makes me the angriest about these videos is you KNOW for a FACT they were only bought for content, and not because they actually NEEDED any of these items. They just wanted their viral moment, then they throw whatever they bought away, or they never use it again; leaving it to collect dust for years...

This is stuff for people who are so devoid of any personality or sense of purpose that shopping becomes their only hobby.
@Bunn.B
@Bunn.B 7 месяцев назад
I was going to comment this. These people are trying to find identity by shopping. To them the "aesthetics" of a hobby or personality holds the same weight as actually engaging in those things, because social validation online is more instantaneous and rewarding than IRL. You tack on the dopamine high of online shopping and you've got a monster. Humans have always done it, however, this is on a different level both in the volume of excess consumption and changing trends, as well as the target markets.

The automatic curtain items called Switchbots are great for people with chronic pain who might wake up bedridden and unable to stand to open curtains, etc. My disabled roommate has a few of these and programmed them as toggles for items that he'd otherwise have to stand or walk to reach, like his standalone AC unit and the curtains. The way they're being shown off in these videos is sad, they're such a huge help for people like my roommate but they're bring framed like a lazy person splurge 😓

@tobaboba-tx4li There are lol. It just depends on what kind of functionality you want. The ones my roommate got, for example, are programmable, extremely strong, have remotes, and have long battery life. There are options that wouldn't have been strong enough to pull his blackout curtains and would need to be recharged or have the batteries changed a lot.

I agree, I have multiple chronic illnesses and disabilities and use Switchbots on some of my light switches (basically the ones for the lights that I can’t replace with a WiFi bulb). They help tremendously as I can switch lights on and off from my bed when unwell or if I forgot to turn a light off in another room I don’t have to put myself through the extreme pain or waste any of my limited energy that it would take to get back up and go turn it off manually. I also have the switchbot hub that can be programmed to mimic infrared remotes like for tv, stereo fans etc and control everything from the phone app and connect everything to Alexa; I can also have lights go on and off at specific times (useful if I am away and want it to look like someone could be home for security purposes) I also have the outside lights set so that they come on when motion is detected in the corresponding security camera essentially making them function as security lights, but also meaning that if I come home in the dark my front like comes on automatically so I can see to unlock my door. Switchbots are fantastic tools, I’m sad to see so many people deriding them as they’re amazing for those of us with disabilities but they can also have uses for able bodied people too. Frankly I think we need to stop calling people lazy for wanting to use tools to make their lives easier, life’s difficult enough

I agree with most of these. However, from the perspective of a disabled person, two of the things you mentioned fall under adaptable equipment for disabled people. The blinds that close automatically and the door that automatically closes can really help those of us who are in wheelchairs or lack fine motor skills to be able to do those things. And I actually sometimes watch those things to help find things that could help make living easier for me. I'm not saying that it's bad that that wasn't considered a lot of people don't consider those things, but there are a lot of things that people don't think of that could be extremely helpful to disabled people to help them have some Independence and help our quality of life that other people who are able to body would considered completely useless, although ironically a lot of them are out of our price range. But yeah I agree a lot of these make no sense.

@largol33t12

And if your battery dies, the reason it takes so long to charge it to full is because the capacitor needs to retain SOME energy to start charging quickly. If it's dead, you need an extra 10-15 minutes to "prep" the battery so it can take a full charge. I bet most people have never read their owners manuals. Sometimes, the brand says "never let the battery deplete completely as it can shorten the lifespan."

Those no word books are killing me, why??? You can easily go to any Goodwill and find really nice hardcover books that you can make a theme out of, so like getting Stephen King novels and using those as your coffee table books or finding some classic titles and using those. There is so many options at a thrift store and maybe a couple bucks for each book.

Okay, life hack for the hair clogging the drain problem. Just buy a metal sink strainer/hair catcher for when you shower, place it over the plug hole and voila. It also works if you shave in the bath, just stick it on there when draining. I've done this for years and the loose hair just gets stuck ontop the strainer, I can lift it out and tip the stuff into the bin. No more having to dig it out of the drain. The automatic curtains though, they actually might be something to keep in mind for when my parents get older and can't lift the pole properly to close their living room curtains.

Considering the generation she was raised in a generation where social media is widespread and enables easier acess to see and compare different views, it would be hard for her to NOT notice. A lot of 20 year olds her age do notice, but in the past without social media and being in enclosed communities, it's harder to notice more. I was like that before 20 because I've experienced a lot more things in comparison to other people who were in the same age group, that's how I developed a wider view point. Today's gen can get some of that from just being on social media where they can see people holding opinions which conflict with another's and make a judgement for themselves.

12:44: The only issue is I can't get them to work on my phone for whatever reason. I haven't dropped either in water, I use small cotton swabs to clean out my charging port, and I can't seem to get it to work. But then again, that's what overear headphones are for... they don't fall off your head when you're running... and some other, less expensive brands of wireless earbuds come with accessories already that prevent this issue, anyway...

Suze: My friends and i have a bunch of coffee table books like WITH ACTUAL WORDS AND PICTURES in our living room and my sister recently got me four "just for aesthetic purposes" books and I'm a self employed artist so I obviously use one of them as a sketchbook and my friend is outlining his novel in another, his fiancee is using a third as a planner and my boyfriend is using the last one as a scrapbook...

13:02 never touched airpods in my life, I have always enjoyed wired earbuds because they are affordable and work just fine besides, I dont lose mine and I met so many people who lost airpods

I vastly prefer wired earbuds too, BUT unfortunately it's increasingly difficult to actually get a phone that has an auxiliary port for them. I just had to replace my old phone earlier this week & through my phone carrier there was not a single phone model whatsoever in my price range that wasn't Bluetooth *ONLY*. Which was extra frustrating because my car stereo, which is what I typically route things like Google Map spoken directions or hands-free phone conversation through (in my state it's illegal to drive with headphones/earbuds as your hands free device because they can block outside noise like a capital horn or siren), *isn't* Bluetooth capable so now I *ALSO* need to get a Bluetooth adapter that plugs into my car radio's auxiliary jack.
@elizabethclairewolfrosenda3391
@elizabethclairewolfrosenda3391 3 месяца назад
Even with Bluetooth being a forced mandatory in more & more new phones, however, I still wouldn't spend that exorbitant amount of money on airpods though when I can get $20 ear buds that are honestly way more comfortable IMO.

Hit the nail right on the head with useless gadgets. Total consumerism. You buy some stupid, supposedly, time saving gadget that becomes obsolete the moment you use it as you realise you have been conned into thinking you need it desperately to make your life more complete. Love your content, straight down the line and no messing around.

what's even worse about putting the Starbucks coffee drinks into jugs that go into the fridge is that you don't even know when the expiration date is unless if it's labeled, which 9 times out of 10 I see videos like that on TikTok, it's never labeled.

i have a bad habit of letting things expire before i fully eat/drink them (half a stomach) it would not only take up more room but also potentially cause more stuff to expire before i realize

The empty books with the destination titles I would totally get as travel journals if I traveled. I got an immediate vision of filling the pages with jour6and pictures for each day during the vacation and using photo some kind of Instax sticker photos and all the ticket stubs and receipts and hotel stationary from the trip. Then you can just keep adding to it every year! But I don't travel so that's a moot point lol!

I have ADHD & I've been trying to find items that're going to help me in my everyday life because having an executive dysfunction makes it difficult to remember where things are, if I've packed something, and if I'm prepared for situations. I can only speak for myself when I say that I've bought stuff from the "Amazon must haves" trend that actually do something for my ADHD living. But I can't justify spending money on things that're just a waste of money.
