1:14 look at First Lady Mrs. Nancy Reagan, so graceful awaiting her husband, you can see the powerful love that she has for him, it literally shines from all her presence. beautiful. :)

Is it just me or were the Olympics a bigger deal then than they are now?
@Retsler54
@Retsler54 4 года назад
Probably. Cold war tensions made the Olympics more interesting back then. Same thing with international ice hockey. And some of us were still children. And big, big Olympics of today….so many sports and disciplines within each sport...so we do not care that much today. Or do we?

don't you remember the torch run? it was carried by hundreds of people through many towns and cities across many states. It was all very patriotic. Millions of Americans across the country stood along the route of the torch waving flags...

I would say that as far as television coverage they were a much bigger deal. Most people in the United States still did not have cable TV so you were lucky to get the 3 Major networks at the time ABC,NBC,CBS. When the Olympics came around every 4 years people were excited to watch it.

You can really see Nancy's love for her husband as she awaits his arrival. Then he gets off the plane and they hug each other. Beautiful.

I was eleven years old. If this was noon, 12 o clock California time, then I know I had gotten to bed for the night in our summer cottage in the south of Sweden. The next morning I watched the reprisal of the opening ceremony. It was awesome. Do not remember Reagan though. Do not remember Rocket Man either. But I do remember cowboys and stuff.

The Opening Ceremony of the 1984 Olympics started at 5:00 PM Los Angeles time. That means it would have started in Sweden around 2 AM.

Did you see her face light up when he came down the stairs? He made a beeline straight for her too. What a wonderful couple.

I would say he restored pride in America. The economy did well but looking back some of the things he did didn't benefit America. Lowering taxes primarily for the rich started the National debt that we have now. He never had a balanced budget as a lot of money went to the Military. Also he pretty much destroyed the Unions so that is why wages became stagnant for so long. Nobody was looking out for labor anymore. His policies resulted in the huge gap in wealth between the top 1% and 99% of the rest of the country that we have now.
