It's time to dive back in to a childhood favorite of mine, directed by Shawn Levy. It's 2002's "Big Fat Liar!" This kids adventure comedy was the first film role for Amanda Bynes, and also starred Frankie Muniz, Paul Giamatti, and . While I was obsessed with its behind the scenes look at Universal Studios, upon rewatching it I was a little caught off guard by the subtle Hollywood racism, that may have been added to make a point? Either way, the script is also a little thinner than I remembered, but still has a fresh feel for how formulaic it is. As always, don't forget to like and subscribe! Omg I had an even worse one at, “But I think I’m giving more like self-important stage manager for a college production of Hair.” Because I WAS been that community college musical props and costume manager for the production of HAIR. And I wore those layered t-shirts with a lanyard. And the unnecessary tension and stress of that show gave me gray hairs and flashbacks I still have to this day! That read was just too close for comfort!!! 🤣

Though to alleviate anyone's concerns, as someone making these kinds of trips from ages 5-12, I can vouch for there being more safety precautions for young children. My parent would take me to the gate (even post-9/11 there was a pass they could get to go through security without a ticket), and then hand me off to a flight attendant along with a for that had their information, my information, and the information of the person who was supposed to pick me up. Once the plane landed, the flight attendant would escort me to the gate/security and verify the ID of the person there to pick me up matched what was on their form before releasing me over to them.
@averyeml
@averyeml 2 года назад
I only had to do it a couple times when one parent moved for work for a few years but I honestly thought it was so neat. It was cool to be that age and be left alone and feel independent, even though in reality I was getting met at the gate by an employee both ways and being Eagle-eyed by the flight attendants to make sure they didn’t accidentally park me next to a creep. One time the parent I was going to got stuck in traffic and missed picking me up on time so they took me to some back room with free chips and Jurassic Park playing on a loop. It was sweet 😂

My boyfriend's much younger siblings (like 15 years younger) are 12 years old. Last year, they were playing games on discord with friends and they started telling me about a negative interaction they had with an older person online. "We don't interact with online predators and immediately tell dad." I was like holy shit these kids are growing up in an era where internet safety is an actual thing. Meanwhile, I met up with a 22-year-old who messaged me first on Facebook. Gave him my address and told NOBODY where we were going when I was 15 or 16. I was very dumb and needlessly reckless, but was also barely considering that the situation could actually result in something dangerous. Kids today actually get it.
@madeniquevanwyk
@madeniquevanwyk 2 года назад
Luckily it seems to be like a group effort so kids today inform each other and are aware of a lot more issues and have more info than ever before bc they have the digital native thing lol. Like I have an age gap w my brother too, and it seems like 10 to 15 y/o would really just immediately call out behaviour that could be predatory etc in a way that my 15 y/o ass could never have. Congrats to them 😂
@Melissamms
@Melissamms 2 года назад
@@madeniquevanwyk totally agree! I am a young millennial (but a millennial nonetheless) and I see more good than bad in teens and young adults today. At my retail job I saw two 16 year old boys (both on dates with their girlfriends) spot each other in the store. They ran over and gave each other a long, close, affectionate hug and expressed how much they missed each other. I think that's wonderful as well. I love seeing a generation of men grow up to be comfortable in their sexuality and happy expressing friendly affection.
@ThexDynastxQueen
@ThexDynastxQueen 2 года назад
Oh my lord, I'm glad you're okay! I didn't really get a direct internet safety talk either beyond my mom yelling "DON'T BE SPENDING MY MONEY ON THE LINE!" (I miss her silly saying so much lol). It was only due to shows like To Catch a Predator that made me more cautious. Prior to that I was talking about anime daily to a much older guy but he was in Qatar and I was in the US...post 9/11 so both of us needed a safety talk as he could've gotten Guantanamo'd.

@@Melissamms aww that is cute!! And yes agreed, I'm an older gen z (us 90s babies in that weird overlap lol) and I thought all my brother's affection would stop once he turns 13 ya know. But nah the kid's still huggy and with his friends etc too. I think the only thing that can get in the way of this generation's progress is the opinion of the parents still instilled in some kids ... But hopefully they're surrounded by more open, accepting friends. Btw I'm also glad you're okay after that meetup lol

Everything Nick said about POC in our legal and Political system is the exact reason why I want to become a politician. As a Black, Lesbian women I know first had what it's like to be discriminated against and excluded. I believe that no one should be judged by things they can't change like their sexuality, gender orientation, Ethnicity or Race. I'm really saddened that a comment about my career goal, has turned into a thread arguing about internet safety. I'm not going to apologize because I have nothing to apologize for in this case, however, I would ask that people stop replying to my comment (it's a pointless argument with someone of you) and I ask that you take them time to understand people's perspectives. I was cautious about someone asking about my age because of past interactions I've had regarding my age. Ever since I was 14 I was being harassed by a man 4 years older than me (18), then when I turned 18 I was then getting constant dms on Instagram by grown me (my father's age-50 and above) calling me pretty or cute and just being downright weird. Please understand that people have different experiences in life and some of those experiences aid in causing specific opinions like this. Now stop replying to this comment, I don't care anymore; I'm going to go about my day and everyone else can go about their day. Have a nice day, noon or evening.

This film showed every problem with Hollywood. Not just racism. There was sexism. The exaggerated approach to how famous writers and companies steal ideas from others and take credit for them. Hiring problematic people even when you know they are problematic because they bring you more ciewers and business. Underestimating the crew and not paying the “underlings” enough. No I don’t think they should be called that. Now thinking about it, this film was surprisingly ahead of its tome despite the execution not being that good. It was fun seeing the Universal Studio tour before I even knew what it was. In high school, I took the tour and than rewatched the film and went, oh I saw that. I get that reference. The water (lack of a better term) rushing past was the best part.

To the movie’s credit, I was a prolific liar as a kid (the difference was that I was caught less than Cody Banks here), and when I told the truth about doing something wrong or needing help, I always got in WAY more trouble than I would have if I’d lied until I fixed it myself. Heck, I usually got in less trouble for lying if the problem was already solved. the only thing that got me to stop (for the most part, I still struggle every once in a while) was my own conscience and moving out on my own so that my entire being didn’t rely on my parents and making them happy. So to me, the movie was pretty accurate about teaching kids that lying to keep people off your trail while you fix your own issues.

Apparently there's some hugely widespread rumor/myth that Frankie Muniz has these severe chronic memory problems and that he doesn't remember anything from day to day. He's had interviews recently where he says he has no idea where that idea came from, people would basically combine the fact that he would occasionally get concussions, with the fact that he would honestly reply no if people asked him if he remembered some detail from his childhood. Somehow the myth of "50 First Dates" Frankie Muniz was born.

I brought a portable neopet to my freshmen spanish class and when it beeped in my purse the teacher angrily told me to silence my phone- I really wanted to tell her it was just my hungry neopet but somehow I had more self control when I was 14 and let her think it was a phone I’m not sure I even had a cellphone at that point 😅

33:05 Opportunity for an educational moment! There are many reasons that an adult may need comfort items, and it they are NOT s*xual. Nick is confusing “comfort items” with s*x objects. They aren’t. To give a brief explanation, needing comfort items tends to stem from a lack of stable attachment/constant insecurity with a caregiver as a child. This lack of security can happen for many reasons, including ab*se, neglect, or extenuating circumstances preventing regular parent/child interaction. When young children grow up without that sense of security, they often attach to an external item. Such an attachment allows the child a sense of safety in the face of the lack of a stable caregiver. The physical item is able to provide the sense of stability the child lacks; It’s a form of self-soothing. Again, something that commonly causes a need for a comfort item is ✨trauma.✨ Coping with trauma is truly a life-long affair. Traumatic experiences can cause a lot of difficulties in adulthood that increase the need to self-soothe. Adults who have gone through traumatic experiences often experience sleep issues, including night terrors, flashbacks, insomnia, and poor sleep quality. Comfort items can alleviate some of those issues. It’s a coping tool that can drastically improve quality of life, and there’s nothing wrong with it.

Was anyone else expecting the movie to end with a plot twist that the whole plot WAS the story assignment? Everything after he writes "Big Fat Liar" on the paper was all actually the story he was writing, and the teacher is like "See, when you do honest work it turns out great!", but maybe we see the paper at the end and it says "based on a true story" or something so it's like ohho he he's still lying. That's just what I was expecting to happen.

with SCOTUS heading toward a large conservative majority I don't care what the next nominee looks like as long as they have Liberal politics. A person of color would be a welcome addition but at this point it's not the #1 concern. Pro choice, equal rights, ect are much more important points of interest when it comes to a nominee. In my opinion.
