Hyde's character actually has a perfectly reason for not being there. He's in prison. Hyde always referenced his family and how most were in jail, so having him be in prison fits into his character in an ironic twist. Maybe give him a noble reason for being there, like he assaulted someone to protect someone else, but it works out.

No, he actually found the car that runs on the water in area 51 in the 80s and that's why he's not around anymore

It makes sense but I think it sucks and would kind of ruin his character. Unless he was in jail for selling weed. Then it fits perfectly.

The strongest recurring emotional bit in That 70s Show is that Hyde would do anything for his friends even though nobody expects that from him. He obviously won’t be in That 90s Show, but I hope they don’t character assassinate him with a throwaway line.

I grew up watching That 70’s Show. I started collecting the box sets when I was 12 years old and I’m now 32. It will always have a special place in my heart. Favourite TV sitcom. I started That 90’s Show with the expectations that this won’t have the same impact as it’s original but rather the comfort of nostalgia. It made me happy to watch! Although not be filled with constant appearances from the original cast the special appearances make this that much better. I think the new characters will find their way if they continue to do more seasons. To me they did a great job and I’m glad they weren’t big names just like how 70’s show started out. Just like the original show I feel the second seasons acting chemistry will completely out due the first. I appreciate the work and effort put in for this and I really hope they do more. I got some good laughs. My only complaint- although we know why.. I do think Hyde should have been in Fez’s memory in the last episode. Minor complaint but yet justifiable as he was a major part of the show in its original days. Also Eric looks the same and played his part completely unforced and just like he never left. Overall- it’s worth the watch and I do see it improving even more if they decide to continue the show. I miss the days of 25 episode series- I think if this season would have had that we would have been able to connect more to the characters individually. 👍 thanks for bringing back some memories and great nights watching my favourite show ☺

@Mike Falkowski The new show is terrible. If you really give it just a small amount of thought, you'd easily see the new characters as cheap knockoffs of the previous ones. I'd give you examples, but I'm not into spoon feeding, just take a look and it'll jump out at you.

The first episode of That 90’s Show has a nostalgic intro from both Kitty and Red before Eric knocks at their front door. It appears as though he’s been away for quite some time and now works at a university as an adjunct professor teaching a “Religion of Star Wars” course. After his hugs and hellos, Donna walks in with a bunch of their belongings and gives a funny jab at Eric for essentially not helping unload the car, which Eric doesn’t seem to pay much attention to. It’s in this moment you may start to think this show has a chance of being good. You meet the main character Leia, who is the daughter of Eric and Donna. She appears to have the facial features of Donna and the skinny, alien-like bone structure of her father Eric. It’s also hilarious to know Eric managed to talk Donna into naming their first child after a Star Wars character. Speaking of Star Wars, Eric still hasn’t given up his love for it. Aside from teaching Star Wars at a university, he also attempts to use the wisdom of those movies to influence his daughter throughout her entire life, which she obviously can’t stand. Leia finds herself early in the episode walking around outside of her grandparent’s home before hearing the neighbor girl across the street, Gwen Runck. Gwen is listening to music and screaming the lyrics before turning to the window and seeing Leia standing there, looking at her. They have a short interaction that has you wondering if these two are going to be romantic lovers or best friends throughout the series. After a while, I’m to believe they’re just going to be friends, but I’ll let you decide for yourself. The majority of the episode has Leia interacting with different kids from the area, only to find out that some of them have relations to characters from That 70’s Show. I enjoyed every interaction from the new and past characters in this episode and appreciated how all of the new kids on the show resemble those legendary characters in some way. I was a bit confused when seeing Nate, though. He gave off Kelso vibes, but you later find out something important that I won’t spoil. What I’m referencing has me to believe that there are many similarities with the characters, but this show also attempts to be its own thing. Leia enjoys spending time with everyone and even starts to catch feelings for another. This has her wanting to stay in Point Place for the summer, rather than just for a day or two. Eric and Donna allow for her to stay with Kitty and Red and say their goodbyes at the end of the episode. You also get a little idea of what the kids are capable of, as they manage to throw a keg party and even find the old Candyland marijuana “stash” that was hidden away at the end of That 70’s Show. Overall, the episode is entertaining and gives off the proper amount of nostalgia that’ll have you wanting more. The only gripe that I have with the pilot episode of That 90’s Show is how Donna feels like such a secondary character. From the beginning where Eric ignores her as she walks in with all the suit cases, to her lack of input into her daughter’s life over X amount of time, to even how she says goodbye to Leia at the end of the episode. I can’t tell if she’s scripted to be like that, or if Laura Prepon just doesn’t want to be there.

Nostalgia turns this from a 2 to a 3. It feels like the writers didn't know how to properly utilize most of the new and even some of the old cast. Ozzie sucks, his whole personality feels like an outdated stereotype and I think he actually has his best interactions with Red and Kitty, not the main group (notably their "interrogation" of him as well as his coming out to Kitty). Jay meshes with everyone else really weirdly and his friendship with Nate feels really forced with 90% of it just being that back and forth "bro" bit that gets used multiple times every episode; he also seems to be kelso dumb 3/4s of the time despite it being said he's academically very bright. I'd get it if they were tryna do a booksmart but common sense-dumb kind of thing, but if that's the goal they didn't mesh that well. I also feel like Gwen has absolutely no chemistry with anyone in the group but especially Leia, which sucks bc she's the supposed best friend. Leo has turned into a throwaway gag with no use to larger narratives, which is to be expected bc that's how they started using him after his return in the original show. Maybe this is me being jaded from the media telling me he's cold shouldered the original show for years, but Eric's actor Topher Grace felt like he couldn't wait to leave his scenes which sucks because he still holds his characters mannerisms and cadence perfectly. Everyone else from the original cast has more or less just become a caricature of their original form, even Red and Kitty weren't 100% spared but I will say the actors still bring enough to the table where they're a strong highlight and for a longtime fan worth watching. I do actually like Nate and Nikki as characters and their relationship, they get some of the only real character building besides Leia, and I actually think Nikki regularly showed more chemistry with Leia than Gwen did. I will say most surprisingly Leia is actually an amazing new addition, she has better acting than most of the new cast which is very impressive for the actress Callie Haverda being only 15. It honestly feels like exactly what I was worried about, the show is too worried about straying from it's existing characters to really develop any unique new ones, and it's new ideas are so half baked and bland they make returning fans even less accepting of them. Ive heard the show is already greenlit for a season 2, which if true I'm happy for and probably will watch, I think there's a solid enough skeleton where there is such a thing as a good direction for the show to go in. The only characters whose character writing feels like they need a hard reset would be Gwen and Ozzie, besides that give me better overall group chemistry and an actual fleshed out friendship between Jay and Nate instead of just having characters constantly TELL me how good friends they are and I think there's enough there to put it well above at least the last season of That 70s. Hell I'd even argue that on an episode by episode basis this reboot has stuff that for me outperformed some of the last season of the original. TL;DR: it's not very good but I love the hell out of the original, everyone needs more character depth notably Gwen and Ozzie, the chemistry of new characters and usage of old characters needs to heavily be improved, and on a final positive note Leia is definitely a strong new protagonist to follow.

Fez said that he and Jackie used to date 15 years ago considering the series is in 1995 that means Jackie and Fez would have dated each other back in possibly 1980 but that is just me guessing and at this point the characters from that 70's show would have to be in their 30's or 40's which would mean Kitty and Red would have to be in their 60's or older in this new series that 90's show

Jackie and Kelso are there cause of jay and fez is only there cause he’s famous and also dating Gwen’s mom only way I see him fit was if he was actually Gwen’s dad or mabey jays god father If him and kelso still hang out I’m not trying to say they can’t bring him in I just don’t see him constantly be seen in the show if he has no connections with the main cast of kids but he could be like Leo and just appear in a grocery store or something, either way if he does show up in season 2 if there is one which I hope because I love the new show I’ll definitely love to see him explaining how a car could possibly run on water…….man
