Also the use of the Word Auntie in the first video I believe is not what you were thinking…. They strongly believe in respect for their elders so it’s sort of like if you know the individual really really well but are not blood related you would still call them auntie (I believe I could be wrong) so as an example my best friends mother since I know her really well I’m able to call her by her first name but when I first met her I called her Mrs.(insert last name here)…. At least this is my understanding… being that I’ve been in similar situations with some Korean people I know…. Also another example with that now, in that group of people there was one older lady who had the same last name as me and obviously we were not related but still she considered me a sister…. Does this make sense at all???

Please understand BTS is different from other Kpop groups and BigHit is different from other idol music companies. These first few episodes can be misleading because it makes you think BTS management follows these guidelines the other idol members from other companies are talking about, but BTS and BigHit don’t do those things. Notice how when it is said idols don’t have a lot of creative freedom, you see Namjoon and Yoongi writing lyrics, or when it says idols have phone bans or something, you see the BTS members on their phones, or how when idols say they aren’t allowed to go outside the dorm, you see Yoongi walking around freely. It can be a confusing thing for new ARMY to make note of, but PLEASE notice these differences. It is vital to how BigHit runs differently, and therefore why BTS is so different from other idol groups from the very start.

Agree. Thank you for pointing this out. That's why BTS is much different compared to other groups. I'm so grateful to Bang Si Hyuk that he created his own company and decided to not be like to other company who's very strict and such. And I'm so happy that BTS used that freedom in a good way (I believe other artists in general is not like that), they still worked hard and full of dedication. In short, BTS got into the top by themselves that's why they deserved it. Sorry if my grammar is wrong

@Chyn Chyn YEEEES!!! SO much thanks should go to BigHit and Bang for operating like this, it made all the difference. Honestly the whole reason Bang PD made BigHit and the first group he hand picked was so rebellious. They were INTENDING to rebel since the beginning, from idol practice to what idol music talks about, and I’m so glad they had the backing and bravery that they did in order to do so, and I’m so glad they have managed to keep the core of that principat until today. It’s phenomenal!!

I get what you're trying to say, but if you watch the episodes closely, that's actually the content creator's intention: to showcase how different Bighit & Bangtan are from the rest of the industry. It showcases the blood, sweat & tears...dedication & hardwork the guys put in, yet still have fun & be optimistic despite an unsure future PLUS given the creative freedom to put their stories into the songs they create & produce. Like Bang PD said...the one thing he wanted them to do was to put their own stories into it. 💜 #ARMYsince2014

I think it's important to notice the differences between BTS' worries and the other trainees worries. BTS' were worried about their own personal skills (not dancing well enough, song worries, etc), about not getting attention when they debut due to their small company, not having money, etc. While the other trainees seem to be living in fear of being cut from the company at any moment if they make one mistake, worrying about weight quotas, etc. BTS stayed until late hours because they WANTED to, while the other trainees HAD to. Obviously BTS had things they had to do too, they could've not made it to debut as Jimin almost did due to short training, but instead of using that as a fear to hold over them Bighit seemed to use it to encourage them to work harder and improve themselves. BTS were allowed to make mistakes without worrying they'd be thrown out of the company. I'm very glad that they all signed with Bighit, and that Bighit has caused a shift in the Kpop industry, lots of newer companies are giving their groups more freedom and treating them better due to BTS' success. These companies see that idols don't need to be punished and forced to do things in order to succeed, BTS are proof that freedom and happiness should be the most important thing.

Run BTS isn’t a docuseries, it’s a reality show where BTS plays games and does challenges, and basically makes fun of each other and tries to cheat for 20-30 minutes. It’s released everyTuesday for the last several years, so there are many many episodes. Some of them are kind of funny and some of them are hilarious, but if you want to learn the different personalities of the members and understand the dynamic and rapport that exists between the members it’s a good way to see that. Especially if you start from some of the earlier episodes where they are still quite young, and then see the more recent episodes to see how they have changed.

Honestly when Namjoon said "I was a good student and adults told me I would be successful but I had no dreams" (paraphrasing) I felt that because I was ABSOLUTELY that kid, I LOVED getting good grades and all the positive reinforcement I got for that, but then I finished university and.... that was it. I'm still struggling to figure out what to do in life when from like 5 years old until like 27 EVERYTHING was about "If I do well in school I get praised for it and people are impressed" then I graduated with 3 degrees and that was it. No more goals or, as he said, no more dream. I graduated about the time I got into BTS so that really connected with me. Their message made so much sense.

Young guys. Putting all their cards into one basket in a very poor company and it means endless hours of hard work, crappy living conditions, too little sleep and not even knowing if they are going to get to debute and have a chance. 7 strangers needing to learn how to work as a group. Learning to put their ego's to the side and put the group first. It must have been a worrying time of exhaustion and not being able to see their families during very long times. It can't have been easy and certainly not so fun a lot of times. What I love about seeing these old clips is to realize that they really haven't changed other than that they have matured. Their personalities is still the same. Their interaction with eachother and their humble and sweet personalities are still there intact.

I really love BTS and BigHit for what they have done for the industry itself. You’ll find a lot of the harsh training regiments that were highlighted in these episodes and future episodes are from older groups. I think because of BTS a lot of newer groups (post 2018) have gotten a much nicer training system. It also feels like they have a lot more freedom than previously, although we can never be too sure what goes on behind the scenes but from the number of writing credits rookie kpop groups have on their music (Ateez, Stray Kids, Purple Kiss immediately come to mind), there has certainly been an increase in the participation in the creative process and I think BTS played a huge part in that. This isn’t to say that older groups had none - but i do believe they didn’t get a lot of creative freedom until later on in their careers. Of course there are still issues with a few smaller companies as you can’t fix them all but I truly admire what BigHit and BTS have done for the kpop industry.

Part of the reason that these music shows can be so important (especially for artists just debuting) is that it's a very good way to get attention when you may not have enough music or a large enough following for a proper concert. There were only three full songs on BTS's first EP so they couldn't have done a full show, so music show appearances along with fan meets were the only real opportunities they had to perform at the time. The more people that saw them on these shows the better because it would boost their sales to help the group survive long enough to make another album.
@fierte
@fierte 2 года назад
You have to understand something. These boys were anti-establishment from day 1. And they were direct competition to the big 3 groups because there was so much buzz around their debut. So they were always going to get hate. I'm just so happy they pulled through beautifully.

I think you misunderstood the music shows of Korea 😂😂. It’s not like a show where you perform then automatically get a number of votes that let you know if the audience liked you or not. Each show has a lineup of acts (solo, groups, bands w/ actual instruments) that have recently released music and are on the charts in Korea. There, the acts perform their latest singles for fans and viewers at home. Throughout the show you can vote for which performance you favored BUT at the end of the episode what is tallied is things like, album sales, viewers votes, charting placement, etc to see who wins. So essentially, think of Billboard having its own TV show (like MTV back in the day) where ppl who are high charting on the billboard charts perform, viewers watch live and on TV, vote, and at the end Billboard unveils their Hot 100 for that week, and the #1 group/artist gets a trophy for it 😂😂 Performing on these shows definitely isn’t as stressful as you think they are. What’s stressful is how successful ur album sales are overall, but the performances themselves are probably the best part for idols bc all musicians really just want to perform at the end of the day. (P.S. you only perform on these things after an album drops. The whole point of these shows is to promote their albums by performing their new single.)
@ma.anjelicachan3351
@ma.anjelicachan3351 2 года назад
I think he thought it was stressful because the norm of promotional performances on shows used to be only a couple of times.. in Kpop though they do this multiple times throughout the promotional period that probably run 4 weeks depending on the album drop not to mention they have to dance almost every performance which isn't really usual for a lot of western artist ... But for kpop Idols is the norm... He ain't use to Kpop industry promotions

This is a great series! Aneesa (the creator of The Rise of Bangtan) shared that she has been working on this series (her labor of love) for over 3 years! She is taking viewer on a journey step-by-step from BTS' perspective not looking back on their days but living through them (with them). She edits their content to allow BTS to speak their thoughts, through their experiences at the time because BTS has been documenting themselves since BEFORE their debut, so there is A LOT of material to edit down to tell their story! She also gives an overview of the KPop history for those who are not familiar with the industry. She uses clips from different video clips of other idols/journalists interviews to try to give a broader perspective of the industry. Her skill as a professional video editor really shines through. Amazing work! I think many ARMY really like this series (besides it being extremely well made), she doesn't try to interpret what "she thinks" BTS is trying to say, she just shows the viewers exactly what they said and shared about what their thoughts were at the time. She is an "OG" KPop fan and BTS fan since pre-debut! She also shared that BTS has been the light in her darkness for many years now. She said she will be posting a new chapter every other week bc she's been extremely busy with her new "real" job as a video editor. She just announced that the final episode (Chapter 18) of Season 3, will be posted on Oct 28th. Then the final season of The Rise of Bangtan will begin airing Friday Dec. 31st on a bi-weekly basis. She didn't confirm how many total episodes before this is complete. Take your time and enjoy the journey!

I'm so happy to see you reacting to this..it's crucial information. Please don't miss reacting to the bonus content and deleted scenes for each chapter...equally good and equally important information and footage. How lucky are we that BigHit had the foresight to vlog their journey right from day one? The creator of this series is named Aneesa (and she has a team of ARMY helping her gather info) and she is a full time video editor in her day job and did an amazing job with this ongoing series. I am not your typical BTS ARMY demographic either (62 year old woman from Canada), but good music is good music and there is no age limit to that! I am going to subscribe to your channel now to watch you enjoy this journey....this is the best informational series about BTS out there and I am happy to watch it again with you. When a group debuts, it's when they are officially revealed to the public. At that point they have been practicing and perfecting their craft for up to 3 years and no one has heard much of their music yet. V was kept as a secret member until debut. They were pranking JK for his birthday. The reason I didn't like it is because he was such a young kid, away from his family for his birthday and not feeling secure in his job yet. Thanks for your reaction. I have found Doolset to be the most accurate lyrics and sometimes gives some cultural references. Most of the RU-vid lyric videos are trash and just throw something out there for views. Explanation videos are often good regarding songs because there is so much symbolism in everything they do that isn't apparent to the casual listener.

To give perspective of the Realistic survival rate in the kpop industry:- Out of total of 36 boy groups and 31 girl groups (=284 trainees from various companies) who debuted in 2013, BTS is the only group still active today. This does not include those trainees who never even made it to official debut. As 1 of the smallest companies back then with scant financial resources, Big Hit/BangPD showed incredible risk and fortitude NOT censoring the social themes BTS voiced in their songs; instead they deliberately nurtured creativity and stressed authenticity in the boys' artistic compositions. This was/is shockingly Atypical to most idol kpop music which is generally supposed to be just sexy/fun/cute, i.e. the very last thing to make listeners question society's norms, tradition or the establishments. Despite their classic textbook kpop packaging in surface aesthetics, BTS has always been FAR more than they appear since day 1.

To add: most trainees go into their career w a debt to the company bc they have to pay 50% - 100% back of what the company has invested in their training (living & training expenses). BH does not do that. There’s no trainee debt. Means unlike most of other groups, BTS had the luxury of starting their career w/o debt. So BH (now BigHitMusic under HYBE) is really a lot different from other companies. Also they split album sales 50/50 and everything else (oversea activities, commercials and the like are usually in favor for the artist (60-70%).

I was reading today that pay for Hybe personnel is a lot more than other companies (7 months to earn 12 months pay at for example SM). They also have amazing employee benefits and autonomy, flexible working conditions, eg 6 months maternity leave on full pay, unlimited annual leave, work from home, set your own hours etc.

I can only imagine how the major labels rob these artists. I'll have to look into it.
@melsb1825

@@JimGames One way is that some companies don't pay their idols until they have "repaid" the cost of their training. Not so much the majors these days but it still happens. Hybe doesn't do this. They do spend money on promotion and production. I am kind of surprised how polished the early years of BTS are given how little the company was earning (comparatively), but these days the money is obvious. Current series of "In the Soop" Hybe basically got a wish list off BTS, totally renovated 3 mansions and provided everything for a full 4 day break away. Filmed yes but very relaxed. They recently filmed an In the Soop with the group Seventeen in the location BTS used last year, so it looks like all groups will get the chance for this kind of totally secure, group led experience. Also allowing creative freedom including writing and producing means members have that income stream on top of any regular income from sales and performance. There's always the chance for exploitation when young people with big dreams meet corporations unfortunately.

Last I read the split of costs was one of the best in South Korean Kpop companies. For example, SM takes 90% of physical sales profit leaving 10% to artists For Big Hit Contract years: 7 years Physical sales: Agency (50%), Artist (50%) Physical sales renewed: Agency (30%), Artist (70%) Events: Agency (50%), Artist (50%) Overseas promotions: Agency (30%), Artist (70%)

Kpop industry for me is still like manufacturing industry. Majority of these companies still treat their artists like a disposable things. For as long I am a kpop fan since 2008, the system is always the same and still uninterchangeable. But this time around there are a shift to this shitty industry since the rise of Bangtan. Artistic freedom is slightly allowed to the kgroup act. Tackling sensitive topic in Korean society is somehow being addressed and being a concept (sadly) in the kpop songs when in early 90' and 2000's is a taboo topic (eg. Mental health) except Seo Taiji as BTS from the very beginning tackled in their songs. Kpop companies is scrambling to try what Bangtan is doing in their own group as they want what Bangtan has, a loyal fan base. Still Kpop music for me is non genuine. There only few kpop act who doing it like bangtan. My personal opinion as again fan since 2008. Ps. BTS is an anomaly to the kpop industry as the time they debut 2013, they don't fit what kpop act should be. Flawless, bf/gf material and has zero artistic freedom over their songs. They are treated like a dolls curated to sell to the public consumption's fantasy. I disagree To Tablo as I think his group should be considered a khiphop group, a different genre of music compared to kpop group.

I'm super late to this, but something I think you missed was the comparison in these two parts- Typical K-pop company training program vs. BigHit's 'Just wing it' Trainee program. See, Bighit never had a trainee program like most companies do. You have to understand that these trainee programs eat up money. BigHit didn't exactly have the money to have the typical structured trainee program. So While a typical trainee day would be like 7am, vocal practice, 9am language classes, 11:30 acting class, 1pm lunch, 1:30pm health/workout.. etc. This wasn't BigHit's way. As Bang Si-Hyuk said, they didn't have that structure, they decided what was most important pretty much daily and would only focus on that the whole day. So as Bang mentioned in part too.. Practice was most important most of the time. So instead of all those extra things, these guys primarily focused on Vocal lessons and dance. two things all day with breaks. Workouts were done as well, but performance was their main focus. Also, the dieting thing, members would put themselves on diets if they believed they should. And on a few occasions they've been encouraged not to diet. But also, if you saw how these guys eat.. even when they 'diet' it's not just about food consumption, they might work out more and eat a little healthier during a certain amount of time. The prank wasn't that mean, but those who are sensitive to those kinds of things might view it as that. JK had said before that after that prank he did find it funny, there was no ill intent behind the prank, just a joke that pulled. Of course you can see immediately the members are praising him and being loving toward him, he is their little brother and they always check to make sure they didn't come off a certain way with one another. They've said that in past they pulled a lot of pranks on each other, most we've never seen because it's just between them. Which will most likely stay that way. But even now they still do prank each other from time to time. The only legit lyrics come from- doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/ This ARMY is a translator who provides context. As an ARMY from the start, most of us from that time can attest that Doolset lyrics are the best, as they provide context and meaning. Once you get into the music you'll find you might be curious about the meanings of some stuff.. and for certain songs/MVs you'll get requested this channel- DKDK TV. They are the best when explaining BTS's MVs from the Korean prospective... and since BTS are Korean.. well it makes sense to have a Korean explain it.

Jin came from a well off family and yet he embraced the trainee life and all the hardships he has to go through. According to some comments I've read also in here yt that during their trainee days Jin would treat his members whenever they crave for something to eat or just randomly using his credit card his mom gave him. And he still does it randomly like last year when Suga celebrated his birthday, he treated all the members and staff for dinner. They grow and become close to each other maybe because they lived in 1 house and whenever fights would arise Hitman Bang used to tell them to kill each other and no one would dare do that as how he sees it BTS dyingly love each other maybe it's one reason they really are caring to each other. You should watch RUN BTS series and BTS BOn Voyage where you can see them travelling, doing their own stuff. LIke Suga or Jin would cook for them all and the rest of the members would do their own share in helping what's needed to be done. They are so humble like if one would ask the other one to get something or bring something the other one would do with no objections. They always find something funny in every little thing they do. Like in Bon Voyage all of them would go to the grocery and would buy stuff they would all need. They all do the carrying and all. Even in series In The Soop it's just a happy vibe watching them. One thing I noticed is that they all have respect to Jin being the eldest and when RM says something they would all listen and obey including the eldest. And I salute RM for his sky high patience to all his members. Please react to the MV that they made, all 7 of them when they were at their hotel room in Chile. The song is titled Spine Breaker (its about social issues) pls check on the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o2wHJr0NrT4.html and watch the finished product or MV ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-36C6kO5lY7Q.html Thank you.

Please dont forget that in 99% of times when other kpop groups and how they work are shown in this documentary is to contrast it with how different was it for BTS. Because half of stupid things this other agencies did are not the same as BigHit did. And maybe is hard to understand it when you dont know much about BTS. But please keep that in mind that this is to contrast them, not to show that with BTS was like this. :)

Run BTS is their own variety show created because at the time they weren't invited to a lot of the popular Korean variety shows like most groups were. It's a great show to watch to get to know their personalities and their bond and to have some laughs. I've also learned so much about Korean culture through the show. Sometimes they will play games (made up by the staff, or real games like mafia or uno), sometimes they will play sports (tennis, badminton, paintballing), sometimes they will try something new (pottery, flower arranging), sometimes they'll do skits, or sometimes they will cook (which is always so enjoyable). They have over 150 episodes (2015-present) and it's always my go-to when I'm feeling down because they make me laugh. If you decide to watch the episodes I would love to watch along with you 😊

Kpop groups have generations. I believe that the new groups that are debuting now are considered 5th generation (someone can correct me if it’s still 4th generation, but when I think of 4th generation groups I think of Stray Kids and Ateez, who have both been around for about 3 or 4 years) BTS is considered to be a 3rd generation kpop group. On their debut M countdown, they were competing against 2nd and 3rd generation groups including EXO, which along with SHINee were the top 3rd generation groups until BTS rose in popularity.

As Suga said. The only these music shows pros is a way to promote the song of the artists but somehow the amount of stress, pressure , burn out and somehow the legal safety of the artists are not worth it, considering the general public don't watch these music shows and only kpop fans watched it. Artists also don't earn any profit from this show. Imagine the amount of work you done to film these performances but earn nothing. These performances are also uploaded to these music show's RU-vid account but the artists are not getting anything from the views profit. BTS as per Suga said only doing music show for the army. So the moment the pandemic happened last year they stop going to these music show as the reason why they doing it is not there, the audience "army". He said that it's better to do few live performances w/ high quality w/o the expense of the artists health both mentally and physically.
