@@Cupcake4me I read Nan's (Liz Smith) autobiography. She had a pretty hard life and she said she loved working on 'the Royle family' as she had always wanted that kind of warmth and they felt like a real family to her.

@@richinderbyshire4779 That's true. People outside of the UK may not realise that lots of people in the UK use a little bit of Cockney rhyming slang for fun, even though they're defintitely not Cockney or even from London at all. The Royle family is set in Manchester.

Great tv show. If you ever get the chance watch the show Early Doors. Written by the guy who plays Dave. It’s much the same concept. But rather than a family home, it’s set in a pub with the regulars going there each evening.

Quite possibly the most criminally overlooked and underrated British comedy of all time. I was crushed when they didn't return for the 3rd and 4th series they'd agreed with the BBC.

@@gphunk1995 I'm not sure I could pick a favourite between them both. I mean, they are written by the same people after all. My only very minor gripe with both at the time was that they were situated in the same surroundings every episode (bar the caravan episode) For instance, I would have loved to have seen them at the races and the bamboo club 😂 I wish I was there!

ugh such a good show! i think the best thing is that every family can relate in some way, everyone sees their family in this family and its just hilarious. it gets much better as well. i grew up watching this show, even though im a gen z kid, honestly its so worth binging, its just awesome. also Eartha Kitt rhymes with shit i think thats why he says it, a lot of british slang is words that rhyme, especially cockney and stuff, like cream crackered= knackered for example

I love this show. The accuracy is genius because I knew these characters growing up. Once you’ve finished the series you should watch the 5 specials that released in 06, 08, 09, 10 & 12. 2012s special would be its last as Caroline Aherne (Denise) passed away in 2016

It's simply brilliant social documentary. My background mirrors Caroline Aherne's and Craig Cash's, both in age and neighbourhood (growing up in and around 1960s Stockport). They absolutely nail it. I know the Royle family because there are a few on every street.

Once had a neighbour who sat in his armchair all day long but knew all the 'goings on' in the neighbourhood....his wife even once said she needed to install a winch so it could allow him to hover above his armchair so he could see who was coming or going in the street without leaving it as he struggled to crane his neck to see!! Caroline who is the hot chick, was married in real life to New Orders Peter Hook. For you youngsters, New Order was the groundbreaking 80s band that started the electronic sound….anyway she smokes like 1 ton of cigarette on the show and actually died of lung cancer (go figure). The neighbor girl is on a great BBC show called W1a about the BBC, it’s like the office meets sinefeld, another show about nothing.

I think Eartha Kitt is like Cockney, rhyming slang. Earth Kitt=Shit, even though Eartha's amazing. It doesn't necessarily have to do with the rhyming word, like Tea Leaf=thief.
