I make no claims as to expertise on this subject, but I'm now coming up to 74 years old and I still rate the Shadows as the greatest instrumental group of all time. Vocals not so much, but instrumentally they're ace!
43 agree, the shadows was all my father listened to when I was a kid and they're so unique, mark Knopfler said he idolised Hank as a kid and still wishes he could get a guitar to sound like Hank can, that's some high praise
I’ve been A FAN ever since they came on the scene. IM NOW 82 yrs young and I STILL ENJOY THEIR MUSIC. Going home is a song at my FUNERAL along side two more. ALBATROSS????
I've been following the Shadows since the early 1960s. Boasting the skill of the soloist Hank Marvin is too easy: he was a teacher for many self-taught guitarists. Here, on the other hand, I want to exalt the virtues of drummer Brian Bennet and Bruce Welch on rhythm guitar, who have always played without excess, in order to leave the soul and touch of the soloist in absolute evidence. To them my great esteem.
Fully agree with you, there will never be a group like the Shadows ever. They're the greatest, match made in heaven. ❤❤❤❤ Idol for life 🎼🎶🎸 bless you for entertaining us with the best of music. 💯% 👏👏👏📀📀📀
What a fabulous piece of music, played here by one of the very best bands. These guys are absolutely amazing and their output over the decades (even with some changes in line up) has been prodigious. Thanks guys for all the fantastic sounds you have given us to enjoy. Love this.
Iconic instrumental music lives on forever as the Shadows will always be the number one in instrumental music . Very soft soft and pleasing to you . Congratulations :Shadows your music will live on for Eternity !!
And I’m just starting to learn and play their music (68 yrs old) I’m on my 4th tune and wishing I started a long time ago instead of playing the tennis racket 😂😂 in the bedroom while listening to the record player
When was 16.I used listen to 9.00pm broadcast on my transistor radio. Hanks Fender guitar was one of the most fabulous sounds I've ever heard. As an instrumental group they will always be the forerunner & Best for me
In the 60s, they were very successful in Italy and, above all, they taught many self-taught guitarists; there was no count of the bands playing their songs. Really good, and besides, the touch of the soloist Hank Marvin is unique!
15 when I first heard them in 1960, probably on radio Luxembourg. Love their sound, never tire of listening to them, no other band like them just brilliant.
I saw them live back in the late 80s here in Palmerston North, NZ (believe it or not). They were simply spellbinding and I've been a huge fan of theirs ever since they started. They were the benchmark for many instrumental groups.
Hank Marvin. I' am nearly 70 by now and I think its about time to give my opinium. You and your band play the most agreable music ever in all those years! Thank you.
Brian Bennet must be one of the best drummers around - his style and music capability cannot be faulted - Superb from the shadows and including Brian Bennet
Great performance and a great cover version of Going home. Musicians with style, elegant vision and behavor. You are wonderful boys even at this age. You are unique.
Hank hoy por hoy es el mejor primera guitarra del mundo en su genero, indiscutible su alta precisión y perfección depurada y exacta, tiene la belleza de sus interpretaciones en sus mágicas manos.
Well, that is not quite true, is it? Mark Knopfler wrote the piece and performed it, so I'd say The Shadows are not the only ones who could give us something like this. But you're right in the respect that it's a great group with Hank Marvin as leader.
GOOD. But nowhere near as good as BERT WEEDON. BERT WEEDON taught the shadows, and a multitude of guitarists down the years have benefited from learning from him. FACT. Never heard of BERT WEEDON?. JUST GOOGLE IT.
@@robbiehigginson8008 well maybe because mark wrote it for a film you absolute 🛎️ end. Marks version is fantastic. Very few pieces of music in history are better than the original
Dire Straits “Alchemy”,live album version, with the guitar and saxophone duet at the end is,in my humble opinion, the most awesome version ever! You can’t beat the sound of a live audience interacting with the band! Goosebumps, every time.
@@julien23lastchristmas2 From the UK. got famous as lead guitarist for the Shadows, which initially rose to fame as backing band for Cliff Richard. Hank Marvin is so much a cultural icon that his name became cockney rhyming slang for starving
@@julien23lastchristmas2 Hank and Bruce were born and bred in Newcastle/Gateshead area..Stanhope Street,in the UK,about 15 miles from where I live. Mark Knofler, Sting, Jimmy Nail,Bobby and Jackie Charlton[1966 World Cupfootball hero's],all came from up here..along with countless other famous people....even me!..[well...not QUITE as famous...but the folks doon thi street knaa hoo a mis...!] Cheers Dude!
Sorry but who exactly underrates him? many of who we now call the greatest guitarists of all time list Hank Marvin as their top influences including, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Brian May, Mark Knopfler, Peter Frampton, Steve Howe, Roy Wood, Tony Iommi, Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page.
Epoustouflant !
No doubt about them, the sound, feeling and love of their music never ceases to please me. I was a drummer and lead singer with my brothers in our band "The Shadows" until Hank and the boys came along and everything changed. There were so many guys trying so hard to copy the incredible sound of Hanks guitar, we came very close but didn't quite make it like many others. We were lucky to see "The Shadows" in their first visit to Australia at the Sydney stadium, they started playing their first instrumental was "Shazam" and the rest I don't think we ready heard any more as we were so entranced by just been there not believing we were just a stones throw from them. Are well the rest is history as I look back and remember all the wonderful times we've played instrumentals by "The Shadows" during many shows we done in over 50 years of entertaining our many fans an lovers of 'The Shadow" wonderful music, I'm pretty sure every show we ever did started off with a Shadows instrumental.
I remember one of my schoolmates trying to play ''Foot Tapper'' while travelling to school on the bus in 1963. Who would have thought that the Shadows would still sound as good nearly 60 years later!
SEEN THEM 4TIMES . i loved them as a child . that sound on the radio . all the CLIFF stuff the MARVIN sound was always . there . the SHADOWS were miles ahead of the game. there AWESOME .
Hank Marvin - wirtuoz gitary a cały The Shadows gra wspaniale mimo,że te kawałki są równie stare jak ja o ile jeszcze nie starsze.Super muza - tak trzymać panowie.
