Most Christians read the New Testament and listen to their teachers about Jesus miracles believing that they are historical acts from the 1st century. Some go further and think miracles are still happening today, but what may come as a shock to most Christians is that Jesus wasn't the first or only miracle worker. In fact, there are several other miracle workers who were far more popular in the Greek and Roman world at the time the New Testament was being written. These Gods include Hercules, Ascepius and Isis, but that's not all. There were also several mortal men we call hero's who also "supposedly" performed miracles according to their sources. These hero's include Pythagoras & his disciple Empedocles, King Pyrrhus, Caesar Augustus, Vespasian, Apollonius of Tyana, Asclepiades, Moses, Elijah and Elisha. We literally go over the primary sources which you can go see for yourself. Many of these Gods and heroes raised the dead, gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, mobility to the crippled, and health to the diseased. This seems to be a well established trope within the broader Greek and Roman world from which Christianity was birthed.
Our goal is to level out the playing field of miraculous claims and show the Christians who insist on their Jesus being the only one to have performed such miracles, that they need to contend with the obvious fact that this isn't the case. The Greek and Roman world was flooding with tales of Gods and heroes who performed extra-ordinary deeds. I think this path of learning can help defang fundamentalism and help people appreciate the deeper meaning of these stories and why they were written in the first place. This documentary is setting out to place Jesus in his historical, cultural & literary context. Put another way, it would be odd if the stories of Jesus didn't have miracle tales. This is what you did to your hero's & gods at this time and place in the world.
We all are born, live a life which is often full of struggles, diseases and hard to get through, then we die. The miracle stories touch on the deepest issues all humans have to experience in some ways. We should recognize that the story is what is ultimately where the meaning is.

I use AI voices to read the quotes in this video. The only exception was the intro, where the AI mispronounced words. I plan on making future documentaries opening using "my voice". I said in my livestreams that I wasn't going to use AI voices for my voice as that speeds up the time it takes to create these videos without me needing to read hours of the script, but it's unreliable and I prefer my voice. In a few previous documentaries, I used an AI version of my voice, not no more. I hope people can look past these few minor AI mistakes and dive into the material for all that it holds.

I was an avid doubter when I was a christian, and the last straw for my faith was taking New then Old Testament studies in a secular college. The fantastic Professor had to teach only the historical context of the Bible, and it was during the Old Testament context of miracles that left me incredulous. What he said was that a miracle in the old testament wasn't what modern people see as miracles. He used an example: If you were an ancient Jewish woodcutter that daily walked the same pathway through the forest, but one day you discover that a tree has fallen across the pathway. It would be considered miraculous that the tree didn't fall on you. All my doubts had been confirmed, and everything became clear to me: these ancient people didn't understand the most powerful aspect of nature TIME. All the myths of these bronze age simpletons came up with are all an attempt to wrap the mind around the vastness of cosmic time. Time is the beginning and end of all things; It turns mountains to dust and if the timing is wrong causes a woodcutter to accidentally be crushed by a tree...or not.

Another winner! You asked for feedback and suggestions so...More content connecting Christian teaching with Buddhist and Hindu traditions, thanks. On a personal level, can I also ask you to practice meditation for one month and tell us how it works out of you. So many people leave their religion and give up on spiritual practice entirely but mediation doesn't require belief in God or dogma. Meditation is a practical approach that provides testable results...the same results people are searching for in religion. It's Not easy either. Mediation requires Discipline and Practice...I think that you're up for it... it's one thing to Expose Fraudulent religious beliefs, it's on another level to offer a viable Alternative. There is a possibility for having Rational Spirituality. Thanks Again.

I’ve enjoyed watching, or at least reading the transcripts of this show. The show is like a one stop place to hear the best skeptical higher critical arguments against the evidential historical view of Christianity. Thomas Aquinas once wrote: “We must love them both, those whose opinions we share and those whose opinions we reject. For both have labored in the search for truth and both have helped us in the finding of it.” As a Christian the show has really highlighted for me the importance of articulating how tropological fulfillments of mythical yearnings of a golden age of adventure & immortality are actually embedded in a Christian worldview. The problem, as C.S. Lewis once articulated, is that if one begins by knowing on some other ground that Christianity is false, then the parallels to pagan myths & tropes will only confirm this falsity; but when the veracity of the Christian claim is the very issue under investigation, then the argument from correlation clearly begs the question. Lewis, who swam in the field of comparative mythology, once wrote: “We must not be ashamed of the mythical radiance resting on our theology.” Lewis believed with his poetic hero Edmund Spenser, as he put it in Spenser’s Images of Life, that “Divine Wisdom spoke not only on the Mount of Olives, but also on Parnassus.” Lewis also wrote: “… in mythology divine and diabolical and human elements (the desire for a good story), all play a part... there is already a likeness permitted by God to that truth on which all depends. The resemblance between these myths and the Christian truth is no more accidental than the resemblance between the sun and the sun's reflection in the pond.” “The parallels are evident, but the Gospel is the highest expression of those myths, the very thing they were prefiguring. The greatest understanding belongs to those who see the fulfilment of the myths.” An eclectic mimesis style garbs the coming of Jesus & His Spirit in our space & time history. The yearnings of adventure within the story archetypes in pagan literature has found its fulfillment in the Christian faith.

Derek, have you read Jonathan Cahn's "Return of the Gods?" His book's theory overlaps the Anunnkai "Shining Ones" theory...or the "Sons of God" as written in Genesis. It's a trending world view amongst Christian web culture, it'd be interesting to examine for the channel.

This "it's really nothing" approach to things Biblical and spiritual reminds me of a friend who bought a fine Steinway piano. After it was delivered and had been set up, I was invited over to hear the great instrument. I expressed my admiration for the instrument, especially the tone and the action of the keys whereupon my friend said: "Ah, it's nothing really." "Nothing really!!??", I said. What do you mean"?" It's a Steinway", I said, "one of the two or three most expensive and well-crafted pianos on Earth. How can it be "nothing really"? "Well, it all goes back to a just big, tall plant, a tree, and various type of dirt....ore from which the metals come." I suppose he was right, in a way, but he was missing so very much.

Did you worship the Steinway? Did the Steinway offer you eternal life after you die if you only believed it was the son of the great YHWH piano ? Until that kind of stuff happens that analogy "is really nothing". Showing people that the spiritual traditions which are being taken so serious that many people have ostracized others for not believing in is actually a cultural artifact with roots in earlier religions , myths , and stories. It's like you not understanding that it's you criticizing something as "Not really nothing" when to a lot of others the path toward truth really is Something.

@ 14 min...Messene....a variation on the word Essene. It means community in a spiritual sense. Where the essene killed off? Did some have wives and children? DNA IS GOING TO BLOW THIS OPEN. See how many places were named Messene/Messina etc. in strategic places. In times of trouble, gathering places. Very often serotonin syndrome is a marker in the DNA as well as other distinctive markers from these settlers.

The real miracle would have been if the miracles of Jesus were not the mundane copycat miracles of the numerous cults of the milieu of the Jesus cult... imagine for instance if instead of curing a single solitary blind man with his spittle kneaded with dirt, he actually proclaimed and declared all the blind around the world in say China and South America and Australia by naming those geographic regions and proclaiming all the blind healed... and those cultures had a record of such a miracle occurring....

Thanks for sharing. These accounts are true. In every age, some figures are in charge of the government and religious tone of that age. When they perform so-called miracles the people worship them. These leaders would tell the people they are just humans like themselves. But they still worship them or kill them. Jesus said to them greater things will you do, than what I do. John 14:12.

You forgot to mention a bad miracle Jesus did. It was the angry ,mad disabled women ,who gave everyone around her hell. During a wedding next door Jesus show to cure the women who could not move.But,instead of curing her of her physical disability he got rid of her anger and jealousy. She still remained crippled.
