This was genuinely terrifying! And yet Bart and Lisa had zero reaction to any of this when it was revealed in front of them on TV, despite already drinking that stuff!
Children have a remarkably high threshold when it comes to discovering the underlying horrors of the everyday world they live in. Mostly because those are things which they realize that they have little to no power to influence, change or control. This usually changes once they become adults. Especially when they have children of their own.
Now that I have seen multiple people point this out, it does sound like that is what he is saying. I always thought it was “crust” because it sounds funnier. But I could’ve sworn that it said that on the closed captions back in the day.
@AreaEightyNine oh, trust me, I'm sure the captioning showed this. There are several episodes, especially within the 1st 10 seasons where this happened. I feel like when an episode was created, there was certain dialogue for the captions to pick up on, but some things were changed in post-production. When Homer is playing that blaster game to get the ovulation to work, the computer voice goes "you are out of sperm." However, any time I had the captions on for that episode, it would read "your score is zero." It can be quite amusing
I have always thought it was crap on a crust my whole life since the episode came out and first saw it back then even, but just learned that it’s actually crap on a crutch, which is a version of the phrase ‘Shit on a stick’, which is somehow an even cleaner version of the old phrase ‘Christ on a cross’, which itself was even twisted a bit into ‘Christ on a crutch’ sometimes. I had to do so much digging, and from some actually reputable sources, not Reddit or RU-vid lol, but it makes so much more sense than crap on a crust grammatically, but it was funnier when I thought he said that too. So I dunno how to feel right now lol.
