Big up to their mother for raising all 10 of them alone. That must have been a struggle..They could of easily gone the wrong way. I wonder if their father ever tried to come back in their lives after they became famous? Rest in Peace Mrs. Sylvers. Well Done.
I wondered the same thing. Their Unsung Story on TVONE just says he started hanging with the wrong crowd and he was gone. Nothing more about him was said after that. I want to believe he was helping their Mom. It was rough for her and those 10 kids. RIP to Mrs Sylvers.
You have the Jackson 5, The Osmonds and The DeBarge families, but clearly the most talented of them all is The Sylvers. All can sing and harmonize.Amazing!!!
I cant begin to tell you growing up in the 70s in Harlem NYC.. The Fro was it!!!! 😍😍😍😍My crush who lived down the hall was named Ricky.. He was tall and he had a huge Fro.. All the girls liked him. I was in 2nd Grade. He was a Teen. Lol. Loved me some Ricky.
I absolutely love this recording. The performance was impeccable, their 6 part harmony was amazing..and adding Ricky Sylvers to the chorus was just genius. Edmund's contribution fit perfect..but overall..The Sylvers made a significant contribution to soul music back in 70's. Such beautiful souls.
Robert Velez "LET IT BE ME " , AND "COME ON DOWN TO MY HOUSE " ARE A COUPLE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS, BELIEVE ME I HAVE A LOT MORE... I OF COURSE LOVE THIS ONE TO AND WHEN CHARMAINE SINGS ROULETTE WHEEL OF LOVE" MAKES YOU WOUNDED WHY SHE NEVER MADE A SOLO ALBUM, ..
Leon is a genius writer .. i still can't believe a teenager came up with that. and the same for Patrick Adams. and i know it happened. the shit is cold. i am so proud of them..
Hey hey hey!!! Leon is STILL writing n producing🧡🧡🧡 I heard him recently on KJLH RADIO 102.3fm in Los Angeles with Kevin Nash... I am a diehard Sylvers fan 💜💜💜💜 Saw them live in 2017 in Pasadena, CA and they STILL sounded Great👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I remember buying the 45 record of this song and playing it over and over again and ALL of the fellas in this group were FYYYYNNNNE 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 and their 'Fros were ALL THEIR HAIR!!! #SylversForever
Man my heart drops when here and watch this video. This is classic. You can not remake classics like this. Those times are gone forever but the spirit and memories will never pass. Great music by the Sylvers .
The Sylvers parents were on comedian Groucho Marx show way back when "You bet your life". The Sylvers young children were introduced n sang. Mr. & Mrs. Sylvers shared some of there background. (Where they were from, where they went to college, etc). Oh, n by the way they won $500 on the show. Loved Boogie Fever n Wish That I Could Talk To You, plus the choreography was on point! Wow.....brings back memories. I loved watching Soul Train.
''Gotta let you know just where i Stand'', these were some heavy lines to lay on the ladys back in the day and ''There's no hidden plans'', always seemed to work ,the 1970s were a very cool time and love songs like this made it even cooler and one of the best times to grow up in. thanks for posting
They're a GORGEOUS family. I like their outfits and I love their voices. This is a beautiful song too. "I wish that I could talk to you baby, so that I could let you know" That's gonna be stuck in my head and I love thinking that it will be. =)
Dynamite song...so romantic! Seeing those beautiful afros together in the very beginning of the video, before they stepped away to their mic`s just gives me CHILLS...I love the 1970`s so much!!
At the time of this program airing, the world was still unaware that there were 3 younger Sylvers (Angie, Pat, & Foster)... who were just waiting to launch and take the world by storm!!
Seeing this has brought excitement to my heart.seeing these beautiful people sing their hearts out with their angelic voices.i maybe 16 but the sylvers are one of my favorite groups along with the dramatics, the stylistics and blue magic
Don Cornelius had a real cool and laid back manner about him.He made all these artistes who performed on soul train feel relaxed and comfortable. 💯🌍📸🎧🎤🎹🎷✌️⭐⭐⭐
Those afros were amazing, they look so damn soft like a pillow. I really feel if this group was promoted the right way, they would have been just as big as the Jacksons. They did all this performing and it just didn't work out. Edmund was my favorite hands down. He was just all that! OMG, their parents were really busy, they were door steps in age damn, 18,17, 14, 15, 21, and 19. Oh, my she didn't get to see her feet much! The only rest period was between Edmund and James and Olympia and Leon God bless her. They had to be beautiful babies. RIP Edmund, much love!
The whole family look so nice!! They were great entertainers and could have went far with the right management. I wish Edmund would have stayed with the group. He didn't do to good during his solo career. He sounded better with the group. But I'm still a fan and love those Sylvers. Edmund rest in peace!!
In my opinion that was the distraction from promoting them more, which was many would have compared them to the Jacksons! Originally, this family is from Memphis,Tennessee!
Theres an episode of them on "Bet your life" you can watch on youtube ..they were beautiful well behaved kids! Its there parents in first half they come on later Heres the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Fkdz0_E7Ts4.html
Amazing: When this record was released the US was going through hard economic times: A fabricated oil crisis was strangling the nation, slaughtered dudes were still coming back from Vietnam in body bags, or as broken, dehumanized men, Watergate had further destroyed any remaining trust that the country had in its top leaders after all of the assassinations, cats were robbing, and stealing out there, like today, and we STILL had a monstrous heroin/ methodone plague that had run FOR DECADES, and yet, except for dignified efforts by titans like Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye, these incredible ills that had a huge effect on our community didn’t make it into beautiful smash hits like these. Why not ? Maybe folks KNEW that young, highly-impressionable kids were watching, and listening. What happened since ?
Imagine listening to this song on your 8 Track player with your main squeeze on raining night in your frost- covered windows in your '64 Chevy . Time Machine, take me back to 1972.
everyone comments I agree, I had their first album, they was and still a classy family, love their style of singing harmony, they were well matter teens and I saw them on the Danny and Thomas show as KIDS HUMBLE.
This is fly...beautiful black family in rhythm rocking that stage as one..the joy and smiles on there faces...jus beautiful to see..you jus dont see this anymore, and thats why i love listening to old school music cause back then they knew what it was.
Just watching these old clips show how professional and on point they were. Looking at this, I don't see too many of today's artists that could hang with them stage presence wise.
Man...thos 'fros were off the chain!! LOL...I saw them i concert at the Oakland Coluseum back in the '70s, they had on all white with sequins, and I was hooked...I had to get my Sylvers afro on and I DID!!! All through highschool!! Man - I liked them. They some of the best harmonies going...and even today, no group has harmony as good as they did.
It's funny, when the youngsters nowdays see this they automatically assume that the "fros" are not "real"! "that ain't they real hair" but, yes...those "fros" are real. Brothers and Sisters alike use to struggle n' strive to get "fros" like this! A gift from mother Shirley (R.I.P) Olympia is wearing a wig, she had natural straight hair!
They don't know the trick that we had back in the 70s to get your Afro looking soft and fluffy. You had to braid your hair at night, then the next morning, use the big cake cutter pick to pick it out and use your hand to pat it down to perfect shape. It was work to maintain an Afro, but well worth the outcome
My mother used to braid my hair on Friday night...and let it out on Monday morning before school and picked it with the wide iron tooth pick for 10 minutes
