At the school where I work, we are renovating our chapel. I'm having stars painted on the ceiling that match the constellations present over our location on the night before Easter Sunday on 33 AD when it was 6:00 AM Easter Sunday morning in Jerusalem.

I've been hot on the medieval astronomy trail for a while, and what Richard says is true: to have any meaningful understanding of ancient astronomy, you need to be well-versed in Euclidean geometry, which itself is no small task. How is it that modern astronomy courses don't even teach you the basics you would need to access the works of the greatest astronomers in history?

I was just looking at an icon of the nativity, and many of these icons depict the wise men following and pointing to literal winged angels, so it’s cool that our art maintains this tradition

I think you nailed it. The heavenly bodies were ordained to regulate time, and they do so through a multitude of environmental effects. Each planet has a magnetic field, and the sun has a field that encompasses all the planets plus a rippling current sheet that the planets pass back and forth through. Those fields interact with each other. Jupiter in particular affects the orientation of solar flares and plasma ejections. Major earthquakes correlate uncannily with planetary alignments - not because of gravity but because of electromagnetic interactions. When solar activity is low, more cosmic rays penetrate earth’s field and cause particle showers that exacerbate both cardiac and mental health issues. When solar activity is high, as it has been for the past week, the global electric circuit has stronger current flows which drive severe weather. Ultra strong solar activity is correlated with mass extinction events. And that’s just scratching the surface.

Looking at it from other perspective, the calendar was created for people in the northern hemisphere. If you live in the southern hemisphere, then it’s your problem. It’s like going to China and saying why does English not work.

I still want to know what their system of thinking was for constellations. I dont buy that it was arbitrary but i cant find anything else. Beyond just representing gods, something mustve convinced them to connect the dots that way even if it looks stupid

More than this, From Adam to Metuselah is 687 years. Mars year is 687 days. From Adam to the Flood is 1656 years. Neptune orbit is 165.6 years.

Fascinating! The chronological information given in Genesis 5 has many links to celestial numbers, but the Neptune link would be especially interesting if it checks out, as the existence of Neptune was not known in the ancient world (so far as we are aware of it). However, when I looked it up, Neptune's orbital period is given as 164.8 terrestrial years, which isn't as precise as you put it. Do you have a source for the exact correlation of 165.6 years?

@Seraphim-Hamilton When I originally researched it was 165.6 but I've also seen the other number since. But if you Google Neptune and 165.6, you will see it immediately. Also, Pluto's orbit is 248.4 years, so it and Neptune are locked in a 2:3 ratio. Percival Lowell predicted the location of Pluto (aka Planet X) based on mathematical assumptions that were wrong. But Pluto showed up where he described and when despite the error. As if the math basis was more an afterthought than the real reason for the prediction. He had proposed a Pluto orbit of 282 years. Which is the difference between 969 and 687 - the years distinguished before and after Methuselah u til the Flood. Lowell had been attending seances and investigating possession, seeking supernatural insight into the celestial. There's a lot there.
