The group performs Get Ready and Ol' Man River on an episode of Mike Douglas. Enjoy! :-) NOTE: This clip is for entertainment and educational purposes ONLY! No copyright infringement is intended.
Originally I was searching purely for 'Get Ready' and was going to stop watching after it, but goodness was I mesmerised by 'Ol Man River'. It's wonderful.
Mr. Eddie Kendricks had such a beautiful smile...smiling the whole time while singing!!! These guys are so beautiful..thanks for sharing this amazing video...Temptations Forever!!!
They were n their prime here, looked good, sounded even better, & I was thinking these 5 guyz were the blueprints that all artists were compared 2. I didn't realize the magnitude of their legacy until I became an adult. They truly, truly made history, we knew they were awesome, but nobody knew it'd b 50+ yrs later, & they still sound as fresh as 1965. Amazing.
Absolutely, my Brother! Melvin Franklin, a truly rare Basso Profundo. The entire world needed to hear his truly dynamic voice. Melvin could have made it as a premier performer of stage and screen, bar none! Check it Out! Ciao!!!
This is a real treat of a performance. Eddie Kendricks’ voice and boyish charm stood out. And it was great to hear Melvin Franklin sing lead so convincingly on “Old Man River.” What a talented quintet the Temptations were! Temptations forever!
The greatest male group ever put together out all the temptations members this was the best 5 hands down period I take nothing away from Dennis Edwards but he had nothing on David and Melvin to me was the deepest bass singer on earth love these guys. Please post more old live videos
Check out the Ravens their lead singer was a basso profundo named Jimmy Ricks check out the Ravens singing Going Home on RU-vid Melvin Franklin told me himself Jimmy Ricks was the bass he grew up listening
Dennis Edwards brought the "church revival" element in his singing voice. His place in the Temptations is secured just as much as David Ruffin's place in the Temptations is secured
I never had an appreciation for The Temptations until now (early 40's) and I can't get enough of them. You don't see this kind of showmanship and ability to deliver demanding vocal (and dance) performances much these days; just look at the sparkle in Eddie's eyes as tears up Get Ready...
Me too. I just got to know them in March 2022, I couldn't stop listening to them, everyday ! ❤️❤️❤️ I study about the group members and the songs, from originals until Damon Harris for now, at this moment. Mostly from wikipedia and RU-vid.
The harmony in this song “Old Man River” was awesome. I never heard them sing like this before. I couldn’t figure out what Melvin was saying a few times, but the melody was on point.
What a treat having all 5 sing the lead at the beginning to start this classic off and Melvin's voice knocks me out. I saw them all together and they performed Ol' Man River, I'll never for get. Thanks for finding this Gem and who would have thought it would be on the Mike Douglas Show. The are all gone but, Otis he still keeps on keepin on. Dr. Doo Wop
What people are missing is everyone's mic is not leveled. Pauls mic was the most heard. Paul did do damn good though. But Melvin is the man. I don't know any bass singer that has his charisma.
@@johnomalley7211 The group had great range. Otis sang some 1st and 2nd tenor background David same Eddie switched his lead vocals 1st and Second do tenor Paul sang 2nd tenor lead and 2nd tenor and baritone background Melvin bass lead and background
Wow I didn't know The Temptations sang old man river. I remember hearing Martin & his co stars singing this on an episode of "Martin" the one about the dead plumber lol.
Gm edagdwg thanks for sharing this story of what happens when you can sing anything no matter what people ask you to sing God bless them love them Linda j. Peace ☮️🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🙏🙏🙏🙏
Eddie sang a full lead in his natural voice on the album, Meet The Temptations on the cut, May I Have This Dance. He partially used his natural voice on a number of other songs, including Ball of Confusion, Lonely, Lonely World on the Temptin' Temptations album and Not Now, I'll Tell You Later on The Temptations Getting Ready.
It is fitting that the Temptations are performing "Oldies Man River" in the very same outfits worn on their wonderful, superb "Mellow Mood" album. Check it Out! Ciao!!!
Profiles in Pittsburgh this was an amazing song for any group to sing. Are Temptations gave it their best and it made my heart filled with joy. Thank you sister Nora R Parker Carter
These Guys was Sooo Bless to have five Guys that could really sing. Eddie and Daivd two of The Greatest Balladers ❤ Ever. Love 💘 The Temptations. Thanks Melvin for putting this Group together you did an Awesome Job 👌
RIP David Ruffin (1941-1991) RIP Eddie Kendrick (1939-1992) RIP Paul Williams (1939-1973) RIP Melvin Franklin (1942-1995) And RIP Dennis Edwards (1943-2018)
They even talked in harmony. Listen to them introducing themselves. Amazing 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 voices. Astounding talent that has NEVER been duplicated...often imitated...but NEVER DUPLICATED.
From 5:50 is the part of the song that inspired so many groups of the day. I wore out my copy of 'Temptations Live' listening to the 4 part call that was repeated twice on the disc but only once during this performance. Otis was strong and clear on the call as the lead-in.
Thanks for posting this, but Mike Douglas's audio techs weren't on their jobs on the background vocals for "Get Ready." My boys were killing it on background vocals, but you would never know it because the audio techs were sleeping. I guess that classic microphone tree threw them off, lol!
The studio version of this song is featured on "The Temptations In a Mellow Mood" album. It's great to see the Classic Five perform this song just like the album release around that same year. I never saw this footage before. Great post. Music historians, who compiled the Temptations Definitive Performances CD, stated that a lot of performance footage was lost, or never archived from their live performances, and is therefore limited. I beg to differ, thank God. As RU-vid has proven, there are numerous performances of the Classic Five, from shows like Mike Douglas, and Ed Sullivan. Now, if all those performances can be collected and released as well.
@@lorenzoadamson6893 Oh, I'm definitely sure that Motown has archived the footage. However, a lot of video producers don't have access or licensing rights to that footage. A prime example is the historic "TCB" special with the Supremes and Temptations from 1968, and their follow up special "GIT on Broadway". Both specials have never been officially released on DVD, by Motown, though bootleg versions are available on the internet. Whether Berry Gordy sees a market for it, or has other financial reasons, fans have been screaming for "TCB" to be released for years. On that historic television special, broadcast on NBC, Paul Williams performed his signature song "For Once In My Life", in front of a "nationwide audience". Check it Out! Ciao!!!
One of my favorite appearances from the Emperors of Soul! The Tempts made their last appearance with David Ruffin on April 18, 1968 on the Mike Douglas show and I will jumping for joy if I can see that performance!
Great Great post, very simular to the classic live album's performance. Being that this was probably done within months of one another I feel highly privileged to now enjoy the visual as well.
This is also featured on and the Temptations In a Mellow Mood album. This performance is great, because it sounds like their studio version. Nice to see a visual of the Classic Five performing it around the time of the album's release.
I love my temptations, Melvin has always been my favorite. This version is so awesome, all that talent in such a young man is just an awesome thing. You died way too soon 😥. Love you always 💖
