I do remember hearing that the creator said the page was a shitpost made as a jabb at the decaying quality of SML videos, which can be linked to the food video being described as slop.

Something I realized is back when Logan was 18 (I think) he had to go through surgery and he said that if he died he would want his videos to loop over and over again like a cycle. Since Logan is dead in this it kinda makes sense why it's in a constant loop

To be fair, an ARG requires an interactive element- plenty of horror series that people *call* ARGs are in fact not. Marble hornets was an ARG because the audience could interact and change the outcome, but as far as im aware, petscop and angel gabby are just horror series (very good ones!), not ARGs. People have broadened the term ARG to mean "any horror content you might have to dig for some elements of" but originally an ARG required you have some degree of control over the potential outcome, usually with puzzles or codes the audience has to figure out so the story can progress

I don't know if this makes sense, but everything about SML triggers my fight or flight mode. Honestly, the puppets, the semi fake voices etc. Did anyone else get that vibe? That this whole thing was a profitable, marketable plushy, family friendly facade?

When i heard that the site is not an ARG, i just instantly thought that the site itself was a high effort YTP all along lol Considering how there's a youtuber that makes nightmare-fuel YTPs for Calliou, this made me think the way that it's a YTP. Really well done, not gonna lie!

I agree that the SMLWiki isn't an ARG, but I think it's Unfiction, a term that people confuse a lot. A lot of Unfiction are ARGs, and a lot of ARGs are Unfiction! But people think all unfictions are ARGs

Exploring this site with my younger sibling who is a recently retired sml fan (me being regularly retired). Insanely fun just looking around and seeing all the stuff going on with references and silly things we’ve been able to connect. Love to see the connection with art at the end too, definitely a huge inspiration given how goofy it all seems and is executed at times.

I genuinely fucking adore this. Its kinda amazing something like this can exist. It feels like something that can simultaneously only exist on the "Old Internet" but also can't.

i’d just like to say this, this is the best video essay i have ever seen in my entire life, actually. i have rewatched this video several times. i reccomended this video to my freinds. i made my grandma watch this video. i use it for background noise. i pay attention to it. i try to debunk the story clearly because it’s confusing as hell. this video is THE best video essay about SML right infront of turkey toms video essay. i love the format of the chapters. this video has made my interest in content creation pop up again. this video inspired me way more than it should’ve.

i actually like SMLwiki more knowing its just for art; i was kind of put off thinking it might be an arg bc the elements were so nonsensical; which isnt bad but usually arg's make SOME sense. but it being just an art project for fun is much better, it makes it //feel// fun

Recognizing all of the sound effects and music that Pappo added feels almost like a homage to things we enjoy as kids and their derivatives. Like the chapter sound effect being from Post-Shift 2, a FNAF fan game. The section that introduces Jeffy is the main theme of Omori, an rpg psychological horror game about remembering the past, despite how painful it is. I see the vision.

I usually don't comment on videos much, but man do I need to express how good this video was. It really shows that not everything has to be an arg or have complicated lore to be praised. It could simply exist to be art and people will atill find enjoyment in it, no matter what it could be. And that ending, so well done, it gives me a lot of motivation as well as hope for a very small creator as myself

SMLWiki is more so an art project to be experienced rather than an ARG, not every piece of horror has to be the next "Mandela Catalogue" or "28 Days later" or even "Shipwrecked 64", sometimes, it's best for horror to be something that is a just, a simple horror story. The age of compleities and cynical twists tend to make horror more confusing then it should be. Art is someting people can put out, and that's all that matters in this blue planet. Azlan

Despite knowing nothing about SML and not even speaking the same language, i watch the video all the way from the start to the end, i tought it was about a youtube controversy but damm i was wrong. i think i can say this is one of my favorite videos on youtube now, the way its narrated, the edition, sound design, everything is so good and it shows what art is intended for, intended to be apreciated for anyone despite a barrier such as the language. thanks to Nezuai and they team for creating the piece of art that is SMLwiki and thanks to you pappo for showing this piece of art to the world on this amazing video

My only question; is are you gonna make a followup video when the ending drops? Or will you let that story tell itself? Either way, great work, insane.

I never would've expected a tweet of mine to be presented as if somebody is meeting with a detective in a 1 hour video essay about SML lol so far the video is really good. I love the editing [ edit ] I finished the video. I fucking loved it when I first discovered SMLwiki (through that DM) I was both disturbed and intrigued. I didn't really get back in SML since they switched to puppets and rebranded as it felt like what I came for just left. that changed when SMLwiki came along, as I found (a mostly ironic) appreciation for the new. I feel as if my online life changed when clicking on that link, as if a part of my childhood, albeit in a new form, came back to me and not only invited me back but benefitted me in a lot of ways, bringing me into the SML community and meeting new people (I even met the voice actor for Mama Luigi, Zeke, which is fucking rad). it's poetic to me in a way. this site, despite being a silly shitpost project based on a problematic puppet show, means a lot to me. on to the video itself, I really enjoyed it. I love the editing work as well as the progression and such. I love video essays like this so consider me a new fan. I actually learned a few things about the site that I missed. while I love the site, I didn't keep up with it as, not only do I suck at finding shit, but I had other things to focus on. I did still have it in my mind however and when I heard about the "aagony" code I knew I had to at least go there and "finish" SMLwiki. I also appreciate the video for finally wrapping my head around what the story was. I did understand bits of it (apocalypse happened that caused everything to fuck up and the ground to turn into spooky Marvin meat) but I didn't get the full picture. again, I suck at stuff like this lmao I really like the ending to the video as well, how you tied it to the message of making art and how you should make it how you want to, not what others want. it's a valuable lesson, especially to me as one who has felt dissatisfied with their own art, thinking it won't get anywhere, but even if it won't, it will still matter to me. SMLwiki is unlike any project on the internet, it feels both familiar and new. It's not an ARG, a creepypasta, analog horror, it's a work of art, a love/hate letter to SuperMarioLogan also I know a lot of people have asked this before but I haven't worked on the website itself, nor do I have any information that they have specifically told me. all I pretty much am is the initial messenger of the website, as well as a cameo on the "Escapees" page. what I know is what you know lol. I loved watching this, I never really got into SML myself but I had heard stories about it from my friends at school, and when this showed up in my recommended I knew I had to watch it to see what was going on.

FINALLY! We got the deep dive into the SML wiki we needed! Been anticipating for a analysis video on this since my friends and I found the wiki.

honestly the reveal that it wasnt an arg and moreso just an expression of art really spoke to me. the status quo of horror nowadays is to make something with a giant overarcing story (or a massive amount of secret lore you have to dig for) and focus all of your creative energy on that story alone instead of the actual part of the media you engage with, leading to people focusing more on lore than actual substance or entertainment value. off the top of my head, the biggest example of this is something like andy's apple farm, a story extremely derivitive of what's guaranteed to be successful that doesn't put any effort into the actual 'game' part of the arg, with the result just being a nongame that just spoonfeeds you a story you've already heard. this is the inverse. it's just an expression of art with no deeper meaning, so the content you engage with is the part with effort put into it. the photoshops, the little playable parts, the little bios they wrote - that's the part you focus on and that's the part they put all of their effort into, and it shows. you can gleam a story out of it, but at the end of the day its story is just what you make of it. that reveal alongside the 'deeper meaning' of the whole thing just being a tongue-in-cheek criticism of the stagnation of the SML channel honestly makes it hit even harder - it's like a double entendre, criticising sml on a surface level while also doing a crazy subversion on what you'd expect from another generic spooky arg website. hats off, honestly. gives me a glimmer of hope for the future of the genre in a time where it's become stale and samey.
