even tho AJ McCarron was a top 10 QB coming out of his class i agree with you. they didn’t care about QBs until Hurts or Tua, they’ve always been a run first and play defense type of team

@@magnificent7083 Aj was a godly game manager at a time where that wasn't as critiqued as it is now for top QBs. Shit, even Jake Coker game managed his way to a natty. Blake Barnett was a 5 star and we all know how that played out lmao. When Jalen stepped foot into that USC game it just felt different after he knocked the jitters out. Tua took it to a completely different level. Now Bama can really take their pick with QB recruits, crazy how times have changed. Lane Kiffin also played a key part in this change.

@Matt i know that, he was just a 4 star but he was the 4th Dual Threat in the country. And the only reason i mentioned him was because they were starting to get out of the run first, play defense phase. they started to become more of a passing offense even though Hurts still ran the ball a bunch

Yea to be a bust there has to be high expectations. You can't call someone drafted in the 6th round a bust for being a career backup, that's what they're drafted to be. You don't draft QBs that late with the intent of them being a starter. Calling any QB drafted after the 2nd round a bust is pretty ridiculous.

Alabama has nothing but fair weather fans that were nowhere to be found before saban got there.. oh well... you’ll be back to mediocrity and all the Alabama fans will go back to watching nascar with their sisters on their lap and a keystone in their hand soon enough. I'm old enough to remember Joe Namath. His career in the NFL would have better if his knees would not have kept getting injured. His stats compared to 21st-century stats are average but he threw for 4000 yards at a time when football heavily relied on the running game. His prediction about winning the Superbowl has been elevated to the point of being seriously overrated. But at the time I didn't know that and believed in him and the Jets at a time when the NFL assumed they were better than the AFL. Some of those old AFL rivalries were great games. The history since Bear has not been all that for Bama QBs but the recent crop of Saban QBs is changing that. I've never been a Bama fan, but those old Bama PSU games were classics, and I was only a Jet fan for one year and it was because of Broadway Joe at a time when the AFL was disrespected. I love underdogs stories and It would take a creative outside the box of reality type of person to dismiss Bama as a football power. Many decades of 3 yards and a cloud of dust was played back in the day. The jinx seems to be factually true but misunderstood imo.

as an alabama fan, i 100% agree that all of our quarterbacks before tua and hurts have been busts, but at the same time i just feel like saban never really recruited top quarterbacks. john parker wilson, greg mcelroy, aj mccarron, blake sims, and jake coker were all game managers who were absolute statues in the pocket who could throw it well enough. hell, aj has three rings but look how he panned out in the nfl (i guess it's better than all the other guys mentioned, but still). early 2010s we were mainly a team with bulldozing running backs (mark ingram, trent richardson, eddie lacy, derrick henry, etc.) and a brick wall of a defense. we had great receivers too obviously, but the focus was mainly on the defense. now that tua and jalen have gone thru, saban's obviously had to rework a lot of stuff. things have kinda flip-flopped. even tho we had one of the best offenses ever this past season, our defense easily was one of the worst so far in the saban era

No because the QBs they recruited and put out before 2020 weren’t expected to be nfl stars. That was shown in their draft capital. Can’t be a bust if your not expected to succeed

Only 6 Alabama QB’s ever had NFL starting talent and were taken seriously. The first 3 all started in the NFL and all won SB’s. Between the two rookies, Tua and Jalen have what...11-14 games of starting combined so far? Mac hasn’t seen a Pats practice field yet I don’t think. So I’d say no.

Many of the top NFL qb’s were not highly recruited (top 100) and/or did not go to blue chip programs. Rodgers, Mahomes, Allen, and Herbert come to mind. Schools like Alabama and OSU are full of 5-star recruits, so it’s hard to assess qb’s from those schools. Compare that to qb’s who have to do more with less.

There are only 10 starting jobs at most in the NFL for the QB position in any given year. Throw in veterans, unrestricted free agents, contracts already in place, and 25+ QBs available in the draft every year, thus making ALL schools busts at this position.

This isn’t fair. We JUST NOW have started to get QBs with any pro potential. Your video proves it. It’s been a running joke here in Alabama for DECADES that we “recruit first round linebackers and 7th round QBs” Lol... Like how can you call undrafted and 7th round players busts? There’s no real expectations! I guess you could call Cooper Bateman a bust but I think people were always skeptical about the level of competition he played against in Utah HS football. Blake Barnett was a pure bust though. Lol

Brodie Croyle really did have every opportunity to be the guy in KC, Herm Edwards seemed to really like him as did the organization. He had physical skills if you go back to the NFL in 2007 he was on alot of list for players who could really break-out for there team he had tons of hype. But it wasn't meant to be and I'm sorry if you can't play for a coach like Herm Edwards who is in my opinion one of the most passionate men in the history of football, it really means that pro football wasn't meant to work out for you. Fair Play to Brodie though his wife was hot as hell.🔥

Bama QB's always have a good O-line, defense, and running backs to rely on. They're starters for now, but we'll see how they fare in the NFL. I only see Tua, and maybe Jones being starters for awhile. Hurts can't read defenses very well, and he relies too much on his running. And his passing needs work badly.
