The Truth About Nitric Oxide

Nitric oxide is a cellular signaling molecule that's closely tied into a number of critical processes in the body. It’s involved with everything from the binding and release of oxygen and hemoglobin, to inhibiting inflammation. It’s even linked to the destruction of viruses, parasites and malignant cells in the airways and lungs. In addition, nitric oxide is a part of the system that regulates blood pressure.
Nitric oxide is produced in a number of body tissues but nitric oxide is also produced in the nasal passages. When we nasal breathe, our bodies can make use of this amazing substance, but as soon as we start breathing through the mouth, that’s just no longer possible.
Research has linked abnormal nitric oxide levels with some serious health concerns such as high blood pressure, heart failure, atherosclerosis and strokes. Many of my patients also have sleep apnea, which is linked to a number of similar health concerns. Mouth breathing is a common factor for all of these issues, which means it’s the red flag that many health practitioners often overlook.
To put it simply, breathing through your mouth bypasses important parts of the breathing process, which is why we see so many negative health effects around mouth breathing.
In this video, I'll take a look at nitric oxide, and clarify how it can affect your health.

I was a mouth breather for most of my 70 years. A week ago I tried mouth taping. I was skeptical so I put a slit in a piece of first aid tape and taped my mouth closed for the night. I had to sleep on my back so my sinuses would drain equally. After 3 days of this my sinuses are mainly clear and I noticed that my urine went from bright yellow to clear. Also, burping has gone down and breathing through your nose gives you a constant supply of NO.

There are some people I know who would do themselves a world of good by breathing through their noses because it takes a closed mouth to do so.

Probably this isn't in your sphere, but it sure would be wonderful if there were information out there, on how to properly care for one's teeth, gums, and mouth, at home. There are really no health care sources for it -- I finally learned about Doctor Bass and a technique that he advocated for brushing teeth, but ... I'm pretty sure there's more to it.

You can increase nasal nitric oxide by 1500% by humming through your nose. In yoga they call this bhramari pranayama (bee breathing). "Humming causes the air to oscillate which in turn greatly speeds up the exchange of air between the sinuses and the nasal cavity. The high levels of nitric oxide accumulated in the sinuses pass quickly into the nose where they can be measured." - JAMA "Humming caused a 15-fold increase (range, 8-21) in nasal NO compared with quiet exhalation" - American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine

I suffer from seasonal allergies and hay fever so often my nose is running and plugged up and my BP has always been high. The doctors all they have to say is that it's hereditary to have high BP. Even though im thin not over weight, dont drink don't smoke. Its irritating doctors don't take a more holistic approach and find the real root of the problem. I can absolutely tell im low in NO.

OK, kinda interesting...but you might ALSO remember that an inexpensive supplement--from beets--enhances the NO in bodily fluids...with circulatory benefits...including boosting of the penile erection response (in my experience, as effective as Viagra!!): Easy-peasy....and CHEAP. Oh, these benefits also include (though best with some KCl daily, too) lower BP. I speak as a Holistic Practitioner (more than 25 years) and very happy patient.
