The politeness features discussed in this video is similar to what I experience with my 2022 Pathfinder too lol... Especially with slamming on breaks when you set it to 1 car following distance. I got used to that sudden stop, but when you have other passengers in the car, they freak out when the car suddenly slams on the break for you lol...
I've been wanting to take some 5-8 hour each way long trips that flying to would be impractical. But I dread driving for more than 2 hours at a time so I haven't taken the road trips. I wonder if super cruise really is worth the high car payment of the vehicle that offers it.
Nice viewing videos from my neck of the woods. I like your 55. It's a couple of years older than my first car, many, many years ago. In fact, it was about six years old at the time and I was in junior high. Thanks for the super cruise info.
This is the best review I’ve seen of the Escalade, even when u did the Escalade review when u mentioned u and your wife choose 2 options for the car, this was a over all great video, u got me to subscribe
I have a Bolt EUV with the older version of Super Cruise that doesn’t change lanes. It is still amazing. I agree about the braking distance. It always stops but I sometimes hover over the brake pedal.
The Super Cruise subscription will cost U.S. customers $25 per month on a standalone basis, meaning without another OnStar plan/subscription. Alternatively, it can be added to certain OnStar plans or bundles for $15 per month. The need for a subscription is only now starting to come to light for Cadillac owners, since the very earliest Cadillac CT6 models with Super Cruise are only now coming out of the three-year included subscription period. For those vehicles, Cadillac has added a one-year extension to that period, though only for original owners.
I find it hilarious that people will buy a $100k+ vehicle with that technology, but after three years they don't want to pay the measly $25/mo when they pay Netflix, Hulu, Apple Music, etc for $10-15$ a month. My Escalade V comes in next week and I will be keeping it past 3 years and will gladly pay the $25 or $15 as an addon for that convenience. By then, with all the updates, it will be well worth it. I do a lot of interstate driving and can't wait to use it.
Currently I am driving my 2023 Acura RDX Advance with lanes assist. In the near future Acura need to make a super cruise of their own. If not GM here I come. Thanks it will only get better.
Not much, really. They’ve added more roads and it ties and changes lanes if you pay for a $700 upgrade. But it’s still glitchy and I don’t completely trust it (but I just started paying the subscription fee for it…)
GREAT review. At first I thought I wanted a new vehicle but not if they turn it off after 3 years. Sounds like you do not own the feature that is in your car, you’re only renting it. 🤨
Jan the new Ultra Cruise is without subscription from what I gather. Also it's supposed to work on side streets too. Only thing is, everything is "Not Available" currently.
super cruise looks awesome. The up charge is ridiculous and the $300 a year subscription is absurd. Definitely would rather have the escalate over a tesla tho. Its caddy with an LS so like
2:36 into the video. So far I learned that if I hit the steering wheel icon it turns on supercruise. But I did learn that 3 times. So I’ll remember it for the test
Thanks for the review. I just recently sold our telluride that had all the driver safety features standard including lane keep assist and lane centering... The lane centering was amazing and worked everywhere that had painted lanes. Does super cruise keep you centered on all roads that have painted lines? I understand the system shuts off on non approved roads but will the centering feature still be active?
There’s a separate lane keeping assist feature but it’s like bumpers at a bowling alley. It bounces you between the lines. There’s no lane centering off of super cruise roads
@@ZeroToAwesome ya with the telluride it would always have LKA active, then as soon as you turn on cruise control lane centering is active. Really sucks GM hasn't figured this out yet. I really find lane centering helpful on all roads with visible lines. It provides another level of safety. By the time the Blazer EV comes out I hope that they consider this. Thanks again for your review .
@@ZeroToAwesome This piece of info is so useful right here and something I couldn't figure out from other forums - thanks! LKA - Lane Keep Assist - is only a preventive tool while LFA - Lane Following Assist - is active lane-centering. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis LFA works virtually anywhere. It has made me so dependent that driving any rental without it feels like a time travel into the past.
I'm using Comma 3 running Sunnypilot on my 2018 Honda Clarity. As anyone with comma will tell you. It destroys super cruise out of the water. It stops at red lights with or without a lead car, stops at stop signs, auto lane change without touching the steering wheel, works on any roads. Option to steer only while you work the gas & brakes. Consumer report rated it they best ADAS amongst other brands. The hardware they tested is 2 generations old. The current hardware and software is even better.
Like several software companies that have created a revenue stream with SoS (Software as a Service) car companies will be increasingly doing this, and several times people do not cancel, they keep paying the fees which is what companies hope a customer does so their revenue stream continues. It maybe a great option for some, but I would say the majority of people don’t need this option, it is more of a ‘cool’ feature than a necessity.
Thanks for asking and thank you for responding. I looked all over your channel for the wheels clip Also it was only a matter of time that you’d move house, which I’m guessing has different garage configuration which work better for your vehicles.
Grandma wants a hamburger for dinner lol Have a bolt euv wish GM had the same across All lines I have to pay 25 a month too without auto lane change, heading to Cleveland in couple weeks see how this goes
I've been holding off on buying a new vehicle because I want supercruise, however the after 3 years needing a subscription thing, maybe I don't buy GM at all...
@@ZeroToAwesome honestly, I'd probably still go Chevy/GM but THEY LOSE MAJOR POINTS FOR SUBSCRIPTION REQUIREMENT TO USE SUPER CRUISE! NOT COOL on principal! Really s***** when companies are greedy!
Good point on merging but you shouldn't have to accommodate the car merging, they are supposed to merge without impacting the traffic they are merging with. People need to learn to drive.
I stumbled upon your channel… Very nice job. You made a subscriber. Thank you I am a huge fan of the “ Super Cruise” and your video really shows it Exactly how it works. I recently rented the Cadillac just to see if I like it… I am purchasing or leasing this car as soon as I arrive back home in New Jersey. Seriously great job.
I was looking at getting a Bolt. I'm glad you talked me out of it. If GM wants to nickel and dime people to death, they can keep it. Granted, $25 is chump change - but it's principal of how they do it.
Great review. The subscription makes sense for safety. You want to always use the most up-to-date maps. And if they let you use old maps for year's, it could create problems. Like new lanes, new exits, etc. I think they'd have issues legally of they allowed that.
So, you pay a minimum of $2,500 for 3 years so you don't need to put your hands on the steering wheel, though only under ideal conditions. However, the system recommends that the driver pay attention to the road and have full situational awareness. I can easily see drivers becoming lulled into a false sense of safety, until they encounter a large pothole, obtacles in the road, large puddle, a kid's ball coming onto the street. Now couple that with drivers who are inclined to DUI, texting, etc. Anything that diminishes alert situational awareness is going to be dangerous unless the system is foolproof. Additionally, all digital/electrical sensors can be defeated, and I can envision crooks, pranksters, and hackers causing dangerous situations. There is no substitute for the alert, sober, and mature driver; at least not at this point.
@@hamdude2109 Totally, if you don't buy drugs you can afford super nice cars and a house in Dallas... Fuck off nerd, I make 50k a year and couldn't dream of affording cars like that, I don't do drugs or anything either.
The Super Cruise option doing a search online only costs 2,500 dollars for 3 years then we have to subscribe to a monthly service plan - I think with Onstar. Where do you come up with 22,000 dollars for Super Cruise???? I would not get Super Cruise anyway, too selective with where it can be used, and I don't drive on Freeways. Nor would I get FSD that comes with the Tesla's - Too expensive. i will stick with regular Cruise Control, we have to be at the steering wheel and alert anyway.
Great video about what Supercruise can and cannot do and odd behavior that most reviewers don't mention. Also great that you mentioned that it's a subscription service after 3 years. But... really? You have to say it's a $22,000 price tag for Supercruise? Yep. No overstatement there. Sure it sucks that GM requires a bunch of other options to be purchased before Supercruise can be added, but saying repeatedly that it's $22,000 for Supercruise is just completely disingenuous. Why don't you go as far as to state the whole price for the car as the "cost" of Supercruise then because if you don't buy the car, you can't get Supercruise?
Here's the thing about self driving cars: It will only work when nobody drives anymore. That's the plan. Mark my words. Driving your own car will be outlawed in the future.
hmmm, I understand why they are making it a subscription, but I would think they'd want to make it available on every car in that case, not the premium trims only. That is self defeating and limits their revenue stream, as well as their ability to test and improve the feature. This seems a really dumb business decision from all angles.
@@ZeroToAwesome oh man. I hate this supply chain crap. Rear Window I can deal with, six months I have Winter ❄️ But not having Super cruise is a deal breaker for me. I was actually hoping for Ultra Cruise 😔
We are all praying that GM will wake up and stop making super cruise a subscription based. Otherwise a lot of used GM vehicles will be hitting the market in 2025 2026.
Owned nothing but GMC Yukon Denali, - new ones every 3 years since 2002. Wife has had only loaded Buick Enclaves since 2004. Parents worked for GM lifelong corporate. Recently I got burned by GM Warranty, badly. Dealership Service Director quietly showed me internal GM dialogue and rules on warranty service and technician standards. I will never ever buy GM again. First time in my life - sitting in Hondas and Infinities and all sorts of other stuff. Best of luck to everyone with their purchases----just speaking for myself. Now that I saw a few things - no way I'd buy a lux car from GM.
Never said that. *But* thus far I've not owned 20 years of top of line Infiniis....and I've not seen an internal Infiniti email on a known problem that they don't want to warranty as to keep costs down. With GM - I've seen it with my own eyes and experienced it. All cars have problems. Covering it up and telling 20 year customers a lie? Not my thing.
After COVID, most of these auto companies now treat their customers as suckers, in my opinion, this includes Honda. They learned that they don’t need to care and people will still buy their stuff. Hopefully, this will change and things will go back to normal one day.
@@ipro3838 quality has gone waaay down post covid in all lines. I just flipped the keys on a bimmer w body parts that were sun fading out in three years.. on a garage kept car.. “car wash” they claimed.. ultimate driving machine but it can’t handle a car wash that services luxury cars all day???
@@Pratt_Photo So what makes you think offering a feature that receives OTA updates and constantly progresses and gets better over time would be completely free? Is OnStar free? Are Hotspots free? Some charge for basic navigation. XM radio. They’re all subscriptions for features you wouldn’t have unless you’re subscribed, arguably neither as useful as Super Cruise.
Arguably, you didn't read my post, and just want to argue. You're 'that guy'. Too much free time on your hands? You don't pay for xm radio or on-star to be installed, and additionally ((stay with me here)) also pay a monthly payment. It's usually one of the other. And navigation is not (I'm talking about Ford) an additional charge. Do some? Who knows, in not talking about some. I'm talking about Ford. But feel free to argue what someone else's opinion is, while I carry on having my own opinion.
technically a horse and buggy can drive itself home from the bar too. This is not amazing me. I would not be happy paying a subscription for it.@@harriska
I don't trust it. I've never seen any tests. Someone tried to cut you off right? The car hits the brakes. What if there's someone tailgating you. Hit by the one cutting you off or getting hit by the tailgater. I want to see a controlled track test where stupid humans are all around you and see what the computer decides.
Why would you want a car to "drive itself"? I don't get it. You're sitting right in front of the steering wheel for the sole purpose of driving, so just place your hands on the wheel and pay attention. What else are you going to do, play chess with your passengers?
Super Cruise is $22,000? Are you sure it’s the only feature you received for $22k grand, sir? If not, this is so silly. You’re not just getting Super Cruise, 1 feature for $22,000, unlike Tesla who _will_ charge you $12,000 plus $200 per month for a beta FSD feature that Tesla ain’t even done testing yet and it’s the only thing you receive for the money, nothing else. I’m sure that is _not_ the case here. That is a bunch of bs. I think comments like that can make the entire review feel a bit misleading. We do live in a world where manufacturers are willing to nickel and dime us by charging a subscription fee just in order to have wireless Apple CarPlay, or subscription requirements just to have the built in navigation to operate. You ever heard of OnStar? It’s also built right into every modern GM vehicle, but if you don’t pay for the subscription it is *turned off.* Ever heard of XM Radio? It’s the same deal. Built in capability in every modern GM product but if you don’t subscribe you don’t have that feature either. This is how it goes, it’s nothing new, except Cadillac actually gives customers 3 years of free service as the feature gets better and better with OTA updates. That’s unheard of.
@@davenegan9032 Exactly. Tesla’s system is not pre-mapped either, meaning their lives are solely in the hands of what the cameras can see once they arrive just like the driver. 2 totally different methods of achieving the same thing. What would Tesla’s subscription be paying for exactly? GM is continuously mapping more roads and adding them to SuperCruise with OTA updates.
