That’s the missing piece here. The workplace affair between the highest manager - the Mayor or CEO of Toronto - and a junior staffer undoubtedly affected everyone in that workplace. Saying “the wrong thing” in front of, or upsetting the Mayor’s beloved might be a career and job ending gaffe. How can people openly and freely discuss city-business related issues when those discussions might be the subject of pillow talk later that evening. I’ve encountered situations where junior paramours have used their relationships as clubs to assert their status as Lord or Lady of the Manor. (Although there is no evidence that this happened here.) People have mentioned that the relationship was consensual. Did the rest of City Hall staff consent to being supporting players in the Toronto-based remake of I, Claudius? Mr. Tory brought his personal issues into the workplace. I do believe he’s been a good Mayor. But, it’s time to go. And he owes the staff an apology for dragging them through this.

The woman involved in the relationship reportedly took another job at the very beginning and benefited nothing in terms of professional or political favours. It’s possible she actually liked the guy.

Years ago my wife dealt with this at a major Cdn. bank: the manager was gifted a branch in a monied area, so he LOOKED capable, was madly in love with one teller, busy banging another, and married. The only thing that unravelled it was an aunt of the VP downtown was transferred, walked in and saw what was going on, and blew the whistle. The Manager got demoted, finally. But the collateral stress for years was evident (the one teller KNEW she'd never be called out; the other made a lot of mistakes, and back in those days my wife had to unravel them at days' end to get balances correct for the day. You didn't leave until that happened. BUT, and this is a big big BUTT: those women took the advances and played the system AT THE EXPENSE of fellow employees. there was and is a lot of blame to go around.

Hello Nadine! The mayor position requires a person who can be a good role model, incl integrity, professionalism. This is not a one time issue. went on for months. Not surprised with the news. Never voted for someone like this. If a person thinks only for the corporation, mainly power, money, greed, the person can't be a good mayor, politician for any place. Power, fame, money exarcebates one's issues if the person is not grounded, hasn't done personal development work. The issues of lust, greed, inconsideration, selfishness will be exposed over time. Even risking one's health, spouse's health. karma. Olivia Chow is not perfect but Olivia would have done the job 10 or 100 times better. Unfortunately many voters in Toronto haven't done their work. John Tory's legacy whether he likes it or not is rising crime in the city especially on the TTC, a citywide Homelessness crisis, bothched proposals for Smart Track and a Rail Deck Park and his affair with a staffer younger than half his age. He is going to be remembered as a joke now like Rob Ford. If he could have just disciplined/kept his Johnson in his pants for another 3 years he would have been the longest serving elected Mayor in Toronto history and likely have buildings, schools, parks and streets named after him in the future. Now I doubt parents want their kids going to a school or playing in a park named after a man who cheated on his wife of 40 years and duped the voters into re-electing him while he was having an active affair during his 2022 re-election campaign.

The reason he won the first was because his 2 opponents, Doug Ford carried a lot of baggage from his brother and Olivia Chow wasn’t a good choice. Didn’t really have a strong opponent in either of his re-election bids. So he won 3, mainly due to lack of competition
