Aiden Wilcock i go with it’s more likely she crashed and left the scene afraid to get into trouble and either was picked up or wandered off and died of exposure in the woods. As the parents and bf said she wasn’t showing signs anything was wrong.. her actions seem completely normal from my experience for a 21yr old college kid. I mean I even went to the same college and there’s WAYYY too much emphasis on her Telling her professors there was a death in the family. When I was there my family probably died 3 times over. My guess is the bus driver offered to drive her somewhere safe and did something to her but if she was planning on just getting away for a little., plenty of college kids go on a couple day vacations or trips places when their “family” dies

I have studied and followed the Maura Murray case for years and I'm so glad you covered it! I knew about her past criminal activity. One thing that isn't noted here is that she was on precarious grounds with her school. They were considering, if not planning, on expelling her because of the petty crimes and the schools strict regulations. She was very upset and worried about this and especially about her family finding out, primarily her dad. Her family was the type who expected top performance out of their children and there was much pressure on Maura. During her father's visit they made plans to purchase her another car the following weekend as her Saturn was damn near on it's last leg. Until then, she used his vehicle which she crashed later that week (as you said) and caused significant damages. She was to fill out the insurance forms in triplicate for that incident. I believe, and it's my own theory, that because of the stress she was under with the school, her past issues with the police ( who did, btw, state that if she got into anymore trouble there would be serious repercussions), the likelihood of her parents (especially her dad) finding out about the credit card issue, etc) and her possible expulsion from the university, decided to take awhile off from her life and try to figure things out..what her options were, etc. The place she tried to get a reservation at was one she'd been to before and she loved that area and it's dwellings. She told the school a family member died because it would give her more time away than some excuse like she wasn't well, etc. She took her school books, bought some booze w/ the 280.00 or so dollars she withdrew from the atm and headed out to her designated New Hampshire location. I don't think she was planning on disappearing for good. I do believe she was under the influence (as the accident scene shows) when she skidded off the road and crashed her car once again. Here, I believe she was in panic mode. She was intoxicated, crashed her car and was fearful of cops showing up as she figured there would be serious consequences due to the police's warning previously. This is why she declined the passing motorist- (I think a bus driver, if memory serves) offer to contact the police for her. Getting a cell signal was difficult if not impossible in that densely wooded area. The bus driver left anyway, stating he would call for help and left to do so. Within the small space of time..10 minutes of so before others arrived at the scene, Maura disappeared. I find it highly unlikely that in that period of time some random stranger came along an abducted her or any foul play existed. I don't think she hitched a ride with anyone and then headed off to start a new life somewhere else. That theory has been exhaustively researched with no proof or confirmed sightings of Maura. It's my belief that she knew the cops would eventually arrive. She decided to hide out in the woods for a brief time until the cops left and all the activity died down. However, being intoxicated, not warmly dressed, and those woods thick and dark and endless, she got lost. That is not unlikely at all. That area of heavily wooded forest is notorious for being thick, dense and massive.And remember, this was WINTER. In the dark, intoxicated and at best maybe using her cell phone flashlight, it's easy to believe she got lost. If that's the case, with no cell signal available, no warm clothing, no food, intoxicated and especially, most importantly- it being pitch black, She wouldn't have lasted too long. There were searches, but it's not uncommon for a person lost in the woods to go unfound. Billy, her boyfriend, did receive a call on his cell. All that could be heard was some whimpering before the call went dead. I believe Maura finally got a brief signal and made it through to Billy's phone but was in such dire straits physically at that time she couldn't speak. There is no way she could have lasted long in her condition. Finally, it's my belief- despite all other theories- that Maura succumbed to the elements. After time, her body not being found, animal activity and the elements disposed of her remains. That's my thoughts on this case.
@DD-d6d3
@DD-d6d3 4 года назад
I agree completely. Thank you for typing that all out. The Occam's razor in this case is that she died from exposure and her remains have yet to be found. It was actively snowing which would have covered her scent from the dogs .

VioletteOrdinaire - She could have used the light from her cell phone screen. I think I remember a Nokia having a white backlight around that time frame. @josiemoe
@josiemoe 4 года назад
Doc 23 - While dogs can be a great tool for investigations, I don’t believe they are 100% accurate all the time. I think of it like the polygraph test, just a tool to aid in an investigation. Not something to hang your hat on. Plus, remains turn up in previous searched areas all the time. An example is Lilia Aucapina. Her remains were found 6 weeks after she went missing. According to one article, “She was found hanging from a low-lying branch, in a heavily wooded area that had been previously searched by officers, as well as K-9 units. The change in foliage was the difference, with most of the leaves having dropped off the trees.”

I would not be surprised if she had been sexually assaulted at West Point, it being a military school and not long ago all male. Clearly depression. Nearly everything she did fits into a pattern of depression. Giving up, leaving stuff behind, pretending to be in a happy relationship and in a successful life. Depression is really deep and dangerous, when you cannot notice it at all in a person. If all descriptions and witness testimonies are correct, she wanted to kill herself. It didn't work and she struggled with the idea a lot. Eventually, she disappeared and she probably somehow made it happen, in the end.

After re-watching this one... it sounds like a suicide. She took the time to "wrap everything up" with her school, her family, even packing up her things. Then she bought a bunch of booze, intending to go to those mountains to die, but having crashed and knowing the police were coming, she probably went as far as she could, drinking and walking until she collapsed and died, somewhere. Morbid thought, but there's so many classic signs of a planned suicide, it makes me wonder. I hope she's found someday, so this poor father, and the rest of her loved ones can find some peace. Poor Maura.

@Jem Harper I don't know that thats necessarily true. If animals got to her, all that would be left is bones and fragments. And with the snow, so much got buried, and when the snow melted, things could probably shift a lot and sink into mud. Finding a bone on a leaf covered forest floor would be incredibly difficult. And if animals got to her body, she would be just scattered bones in those woods. I do agree its unlikely that they would not be able to find her, but i think it's definitely in the realm of possibility imo

My first inclination is to think that she vanished on her own. The reason being that she displayed criminal behaviour and bad choices. She didn't trust a bus driver so she probably wouldn't trust anyone, so I can't see her hitchhiking away. (Mind you, if she knew the police were on their way and she'd been drinking, that may have been a reason for her to take off.) I think someone must've abducted her. I hope this is solved for her father's sake. Poor guy is broken-hearted. Thanks for the upload.

Truth Teller at the end of the day she was a 5’7 woman that didn’t weight a whole lot, it doesn’t matter how fit she is if she encountered a 6’4 300 pound predator he could do anything he wanted and she wouldn’t be able to stop him, especially if she was intoxicated. But my guess is they probably didn’t even have to attack he did she was abdicated they probably lured her to go with them.

"a death in the family" could that of been a cryptic clue about a suicide?
@mafaldaisabel6076
@mafaldaisabel6076 3 года назад
Agree, for me that fact, the emails (maybe they were her way to say goodbye to people without them realizing it)and all her belongings in the boxes. I would say though that she was trying to reach the place where she was going to commit suicide and had the accident, from that way on she just got lost in the woods and died. From what I have read she was going to be expelled from university

Its definitely one of the most unsettling cases. It has so many odd aspects to it; the fact that she lied about a reason to leave on her trip, the fact that some of the booze was gone from her car, the dirtbag guy, the voicemail to her BF with crying on it...and the authorities say all of these are nothing and theres nothing else they can do ? _Something doesn't add up._

I can't quite see if they found anything, but in July 2022, the police renewed the ground search in a couple of areas. Hopefully they find something. My gut says she was pregnant and didn't know how to get herself back on track... There are so many heart-wrenching reasons that people can't stop their impulsive behaviors (this 100% includes myself) and sometimes it can feel like there's no way out.
@maxalberts2003
@maxalberts2003 5 месяцев назад
There may indeed have been "no way out." She was about to get the boot from nursing school and had started a sheet. I think she had been told that the doors were not only closed, but locked, and that she needed to find something other than nursing to do with her life. If nursing had been her lifelong dream (was it?) then she was at a dead end. She was already disgraced, probably had a reputation as one of the campus nuts, and was simply in too deep to get out without acknowledging that her life had failed completely. She understood the reality with perfect clarity. And that was that.

The ‘death in her family’ she referred to when calling school and employers may have been herself. She could have been suicidal but not sure, and gave excuses in case she changed her mind and wanted to return to her life.

It sounds like she had undiagnosed mental disorders, and she felt backed into a corner. The drunk driving and crash at her disappearance sounds like it was the last straw. The phone call was probably her trying to talk herself out of suicide but didn't get an answer, so she went somewhere and just killed herself.

As someone who's almost killed themselves before...this was definitely a suicide. She packed up all of her stuff so it would be easier to clear out her empty room. She took out all her money and wanted a hotel room in an area with good memories to have a good last night. She felt she was a fuck up. She crashed her dads car. She was under pressure. I've been there. It's sad but no mystery.

So where is the body? There were no footprints found in the snow on either side of the road where she had the accident. The police dog was able to track her scent for 100 yards then it just stopped in the middle of the road. She never did check into any hotel room in the area.So I take it YOU know where her body is? Pardon me if I don't take your word for it. Got any leads on where Jimmy Hoffa is?
